Pride of a Winner ~ Revamped ~ | Richard Ortiz GM Story

    4-17-14

"& we're back. Thank you for tuning in with us and thank you the audience who's in attendance."

    Crowd cheers

"For those of you just now tuning in I'm John Lewis and welcome to this Lewis Show Special where we talk to some from very interesting people."

    Crowd cheers

"We've come to our final guest of the night. He is a former NBA general manager, the youngest of in that franchise's front office history, and was considered possibly one of the most popular businessman to have ran a front office in the NBA. Everybody join me in welcoming Mr. Richard Ortiz!"

Crowd explodes in cheers as Richard Ortiz walks on stage with John Lewis, shaking his hand immediately as they meet.

Both John & Richard takes a seat

"I'm very excited that you could join us today, Richard."

Richard replies, "Come on, John, you're a good friend of mine. Of course if you ask imma come running." John and Richard both laugh at his comment.

"Well I'm gonna start by saying you have been through a tough time these pass 2 years."

Richard nods and replied saying, "Yeah. Things were going so tremendously & then things went down quickly & drastically."

"Tell us about that, my friend."

"Well like you all know I was a successful general manager of the Houston Rockets & in the process of feeling good about the franchise in its current state & it's future I knew big bucks were soon pouring in and life for my family would be easy."

"Wait let's show the fans watching a picture of your amazing family. Look at em aren't they just beautiful!"

Image of Ortiz's family is shown on the big screen behind them as the crowd applaud.

    "Continue Richard."

"I loved my family so much and it pains me everyday to remember that life altering call during the 12-13 season."

"Tell us what that call was, Richard."

Richard pauses for a second looking back at the image of his wife & son then looks out into the crowd before continuing, "My family were murdered by my cousin who I've considered a brother."

    Crowd murmurs in disbelief

"My cousin Keith Ortiz came to my home while I was in the office late and his mental condition took over & he took a kitchen knife and killed my wife & son. After he came to I guess he called me and told me what happened before turning himself in. Once I got to the house he was in handcuffs & put into a police car."

"Again I'm sorry that this transpired the way it did. Folks here's your murderer."

Immediately as Keith Ortiz's picture was shown on the screen the crowd boos.

John speaks again to calm the crowd down saying, "Look I know he murdered his family but he was a very sick man. During his court trial he confessed that an evil spirit made him do it."

    Crowd murmurs in confusion

John continues, "I know I know but he's still in a mental hospital getting help for his condition. What was it again?"

Richard answers, "Schizophrenia. Something I never realized he had till the doctors treated him. He always believed in this spirit named 'Godfrey' since we were kids but it was never this bad. I don't hate him for what he did but I was devastated."

"This drove you to do something that nearly ruined your life, correct?"

"Yeah it did. I went to drugs & alcohol to drown my pain away I soon became an addict. After I disappeared the Rockets's front office did what they could to keep the franchise together since I, the acting GM, vanished. A good friend of mine found me nearly dead in an abandon warehouse & helped me."

    "Who was this friend?"

Richard laughs then answers, "you, John Lewis."

    Crowd cheers

"I had to help you its what real friends do & since you sold your house to use the money for drugs & alcohol. You were messed up, homeless, & once the front office got the news jobless."

"Yeah, I went to rehab & decided I would get my life back on track. Which I did."

    Crowd explodes in cheers

"As you see we're all proud of you. What are you doing now my friend?"

"I'm living in a nice home in a suburban area outside of Houston. The people are nice out there. I'm working at this factory in Houston so I'm managing but oh do I miss the life I was living before my fall offs."

"You were living well but don't worry you'll be back in that just gotta have patience."

"Yeah. I'd love to get back being a general manager again. I'd GM any team."

"With the way you ran the Rockets I'm pretty sure someone will give you a chance. Plus sources from the Rockets's front office say that it was on your wishlist to get Dwight Howard."

"Yeah but it was just my wishlist they acted on it when I told them about my wishlist. Heck, who knew things turn out the way it did & he'd leave."

"Well we're running out of time. & before I bring out our live entertainment to close us out. I got 1 last question to ask you, Richard."

    "Go ahead."

"Do you believe in the 'evil spirit Godfrey' like your cousin too?"

Re: Pride of a Winner ~ Revamped ~ | Richard Ortiz GM Story

This is going to be a GM Dynasty, focusing on all the personnel dynamics, off the court stuff, and pretty much everything else involved in running a team, originally inspired by trekfan’s Andy McCutcheon ‘chise. I'm starting out with a team I’d like to stay with for the long term, but I won't rule out moving on to a different team should storyline dictate as such. The NBA is a fluid league and I aim to keep it that way.

I'll be using CWSapp757/Dreece Fictional Draft Classes starting with draft class 1 then jumping to 10 then from I'll be going in reverse.

The CPU trading ability is on (to keep things dynamic) and trade override is on (so I can correct some bad CPU trades/replicate real life big trades if need be). However I am using 30 team control but lineup managing, player contracts, staff contracts, training camp, etc will all be controlled by the CPU. My job is to control my team, deal with total sim control and player roles for all teams along with keeping the 2k logic from ruining the drafts, also I might throw in a few interesting trades as well. I wanna keep things semi-realistic, but it's a game so sometimes dumb AI will screw it up so I will adjust rosters at the start of every season accordingly. I’ll be starting the season April 9, 2014 with perhaps the closest to be identical as in real life from that date, all thanks to the Sim World team. I will let you know know what happens with the end of this season, but I won't be playing until next season.

I'll be playing about 2-5 games a month through the course of the entire season while playing every game of the playoffs, so I’ll actually be playing about 12-30 games a season adding with that however playoff games I play. The rest of the games will be simulated to keep things interesting. Any and all comments are welcome-bad or good (hopefully more good then bad haha). I can’t wait to begin this Dynasty hope you all enjoy.

    Game & Console: NBA 2k14 (Xbox 360)
    Rosters: Sim World Experience
    Sliders: Sim World
    Difficulty: Superstar
    Quarter Length: 12 Minutes
    Sim Quarter Length: 12 Minutes

    Season Length: 82 Games
    Playoff Format: 7-7-7-7
    Injuries: On
    Progressive Fatigue: On
    Player Roles: On
    Team Chemistry: On

Re: Pride of a Winner ~ Revamped ~ | Richard Ortiz GM Story

      4-25-14
      Downtown Houston

Richard finds himself in front of the Toyota Arena home of the Houston Rockets. It's Game 4 of the First Round in the Playoffs against the Golden State Warriors and with Houston down 2-1 this game plans to be monumental. He stands there frozen in deep thought remembering the experiences he had here with his family and friends. It's been 2 years since he's been here and that last time was with his family. His legs felt heavy and the air seems thin, it was starting to become hard to breathe. Fans of all ages passed by him as though he was just a pillar in their way, not realizing who they're ignoring. He couldn't figure out why he came back here...

      And then it hit him...

      Literally

"You ready to go in yet, Rich?" John Lewis asked jokingly while mugging the back of Richard's shoulder to get his attention.

Richard replies, "Yeah, man, no clue why I stopped. Thanks again for kidnapping me and bringing me here."

They both laugh then John says, "Well if I didn't force you out your house do you really think you'd came? Especially if I told you I was bringing you here."

Richard sighs, "Yeah you probably right." Richard smiles then continues, "so where we sitting? Courtside or skybox?"

John pats Richard on the back, "Lets go and find out."

John walks in and Richard finally moves following behind him.

As they make their way toward an elevator Richard says, "John, you could of just said skybox. The elevator is a dead giveaway, man."

John replies while the elevator doors close, "Okay look, Rich, I got courtside seats. I've always got courtside seats."

Puzzled Richard replies, "Then why are we going upstairs?"

John cracks a smile, "I think you're going to be working in the front office again, my friend."

"WAIT! WHAT?!" Richard yelled shocked & amazed.

The elevator door opens and there stood a former colleague of Richard's back when he was the general manager.

"Kevin McHale?" Richard greeted the coach he hired back when he was GM.

"It's good to see you again. I'm just here to speak to you before the game. I have to go now but Tad is in Room 36 waiting to talk to you."

McHale makes his way into the elevator and leaves. Richard is trying so hard not to sprint to Room 36 his excitement is close to taking over.

"You ready? You can go on ahead in I will be at our seats. Here's your ticket. Come back with good news." John says as he leaves taking the stairs.

"I can't believe this is happening." Richard said thinking out loud.

Richard makes his way to Room 36 trying to figure out how this dream is becoming a reality.

He gets to Room 36 knocks and enters. There stood Tad Brown Chief Executive Officer of the Houston Rockets looking at me as I walk in. Even with all the background noise from the game and fans Tad doesn't budge.

Tad Brown acknowledges him, "Former General Manager Mister Ortiz..."

Richard acknowledges back, "Current Chief Executive Officer Mister Brown..."

There was this awkward stare between them both and Richard couldn't believe he was going through this again. Just like 2 years ago Tad Brown always makes introductions seem like a difficult task.

After 15 seconds of awkward silence Tad added saying, "It's good to see you again its been a long time." He reached out and shook my hand.

That was Tad Brown's awkward attempt at breaking the ice.

"It's good to be back in Toyota Arena I must say," Richard replied.

"Have a seat," Tad offered then as we both took a seat he continued, "Well as you may know your good friend John Lewis has been one of our faithful season ticket holders. & he's been going head over hills trying to get you back in the General Manager chair. After what you did 2 years we were reluctant to even consider you and apparently you recover quickly. Watching Lewis's show last week we're decided to put you back at the helm."

Richard stands then so does Tad Brown.

Richard shakes his hand while saying, "Wow. Are you kidding me? General Manager of the Houston Rockets once again with old friend Daryl Moery. Thank you so much things are looking up for me already."

Richard just couldn't stop smiling he couldn't believe he got his old job back it was to good to be true.

Tad Brown stops shaking hands, "Wait."

      Uh oh.

"I never said you were General Manager here."

It WAS to good to be true.

      "Now I'm confused," stated Richard.

Tad Brown added, "You are not the General Manager here. We don't need you here. You are the General Manager of another team and we'll be flying you there in 2 days. Congratulations are still in order."

Tad Brown shakes Richard's hand again but Richard stops it.

"Who's front office am I joining, Brown?" Richard questioned.

      "The Milwaukee Bucks."

Interesting backstory man, I like it. Following for sure. is there a reason you're doing the classes out of order? Might it be because you just want to see Chris Bishop Jr. earlier (No one would blame you that dude is a BEAST)?

                          4-28-14
                          Downtown Milwaukee

Inside the BMO Harris Bradley Center Richard is sitting and waiting to talk with the owners of the Milwaukee Bucks. Dressed in the best outfit he could afford; white long sleeve button-down shirt with a long black and white striped tie, black slacks, and dark black gators that are so dark you can't see the gator skin imprinted on the shoe, along with a nice, tight but comfy fitting suit jacket. He prays that this whole experience goes well, so he can get back to living the life of luxury. Richard looks around the waiting area noticing the emptiness that covers this entire arena. Even though people were here it felt as though no one wanted to be here.

Unexpectedly, the office doors of Marc Larsy and Wesley Edens's office flung open as though strong, tornado like winds blew the doors open.

A man comes storming out angry, frustrated, fed up.

It was John Hammond the former General Manager of this here team.

Richard's attention was so focused on John Hammond he didn't realize that the secretary was trying to get his attention.

"Mister Ortiz, Mister Larsy and Mister Edens are ready for you," the blond haired secretary stated after she finally got his attention.

Richard didn't respond he rose from his seat, fixed up his suit, and made his way into the 2 owners' office.

As Richard entered Marc Larsy approaches him and shakes his hand, "Richard Ortiz the man of great inspiration."

Richard was clueless of Larsy's statement but he smiles still enjoying the moment.

"I'm Marc Larsy," Marc then turns and points at his colleague behind him, "and this is my partner Wesley Edens."

"Nice to finally meet you two personally," Richard stated while shaking Wesley's hand.

"We've heard so much about you," Wesley announced.

"And we read so much as well," Marc added.

Wesley continued, "Once we heard from Tad Brown that you needed a job we instantly remembered what you started in Houston. John Lewis told not to many owners wanted to take you in."

"And the ones that did wanted you weren't offering what we're offering," added Marc.

"John Lewis strongly said you'd take the job and had some great ideas and plans for this team."

Richard smiles appreciative of what John Lewis did for him.

"I cannot promise you anything big but I promise once I start you'll believe that the future of the Milwaukee Bucks franchise will be bright," Richard announced.

"Hmm then what's your pitch?" questioned Wesley then continues, "because we're willing to spend money if you're getting us money."

"Yes we're a young team even me I'm still 31 but what I have that this team doesn't have is an identity. Until I get started and have the tools I can't give you much detail of what I have planned. I will say this, the basketball operations staff is terrible I have to say especially compared with the staff I had in Houston. This team; offensively the players on this team is unorthodox & random, defensively this team has potential to be elite but right now the players are watching their own backs. This is a team made to tank all in hope getting Adam Cameron potentially a future star in this league, but look what happened. Karma isn't a nice lady. We might be getting him but I can tell you this I will push to get him. I know you two really want him."

Quickly Marc replied, "Yes we do."

"Again no promises but with this draft and the next we will be in the playoffs within 2-3 years and I'll be able to talk top free agents to come play here and before you know it just like the Thunder this franchise will make a quick turnaround."

"I've heard enough. You're our man and we have faith in you," a persistent Wesley said.

"You got 3 years on your contract and depending on how well your plan works out we'll determine adding or terminating," added Marc.

Smiling Richard asked, "Where do I sign?"

Richard begins reading over his contract then finally signs.

Once he finished signing he shook both owners' hand then said, "Oh yeah, I have a request."

A puzzled Marc asked, "What would that be?"

"John Hammond. Give him the Assistant General Manager position," commanded Richard.

The dual owners glances at each other for a second and once Wesley gave a nod Marc said, "Done. We'll bring him back."

                            New Beginnings for Bucks Franchise

                            Charles M. Hunt

                            June 25, 2014

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee Bucks start their first chapter in a new book as new owners Marc Larsy and Wesley Edens begin their first act as owners by hiring former General Manager of the Houston Rockets Richard Ortiz as their new General Manager. When Ortiz announced he wanted to get back into the GM office, after being out for over two years, on the popular Lewis Show Bucks owners did not hesitate to sign him. Ortiz along with then partner Daryl Moery got the Rockets franchise to where they are now. Ortiz started the movement bringing Jeremy Lin and then later James Harden to Houston. Ortiz's credentials are nothing to miss but what he did to the Rockets many executives were hesitant to bring him to their organization.

One anonymous NBA executive who wasn't sold on getting Ortiz had this to say, "Ortiz was mentally unstable after his family was murdered whats to say he has the right mindset to run a team."

Another NBA executive who will remain anonymous stated, "He (Richard Ortiz) vanished without a trace leaving the Rockets with no insight on his whereabouts put them in a huge bind...I don't want that to happen here."

                            Anything could happen.

Actually once the new GM of the Milwaukee Bucks was let loose he made the Bucks look like their going in the right direction.

I spoke with Richard Ortiz he gave one statement, "It's time for a new identity here in Milwaukee."

                            A strong statement Mister Ortiz.

When the Mikwaukee Bucks finally made the playoffs with Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut leading the pack it was as though things were going the right direction. However, all of those ideas departed the same time Jennings and Bogut left. This pass season is the worse percentage season in franchise history (22%) and if you're a Bucks fan you couldn't be any more ashamed of your team.

Ortiz started a movement after his biggest move so far in the off season. He hired a whole new basketball operations staff, but mainly the directors of their category got the pink slip. The loudest hire is at the head coach position. Remember a very good coach who was 'in my opinion' let go for no reason. If you haven't guessed it yet I'm referring to the former Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson.

Yes, Ortiz grabbed Mark Jackson before anyone even realized.

All over the state of Wisconsin fans are beginning to repeat the statement the Bucks GM gave. Hope is beginning to surface from the all the 'ride or die' Bucks fans just from this hire. With the 2014 NBA Draft tomorrow drafting or attaining Adam Cameron would make things perfect.

The Bucks have the 3rd Overall pick and they're rumored to be pushing to trade with the Jazz to get the #1 pick.

If Richard Ortiz pulls off a miracle and get Adam Cameron there's no where but up for the Milwaukee Bucks franchise.
