The past few games have been a bit weird for us as we close out a road trip, to only return home for one game, before we went off and beat the Pacers in Indiana, and then came home for today's game against the Magic. We unfortunately lost Cody Zeller for a few weeks due to a broken hand suffered in the Pacers game, which I felt would hurt is bad once we got to our bench guys because Biyombo and Maxiell really haven't show much in terms of offense and Marvin Williams hasn't really been ready to make a comeback......or so I thought.
We started off pretty well with Bradley and Walker hitting a few shots, but Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo fired right back at us and things were going back and forth, until our bigs took over. Al Jefferson got it started and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist followed suit. Then out of nowhere Marvin Williams comes off the bench and calls for the ball on two straight trips and sinks both shots. Bismack Biyombo would go nuts, at least for him, and made a couple baskets. This all the meanwhile Harris was doing his best to keep it close. Andrew Nicholson and Harkless would bring Orlando back within 1 point, before Kemba Walker and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist extend it once again. As Oladipo and Ben Gordon hit 3's, the Magic were back ahead. With the lead and the Magic bench putting up some good defense, the Magic put the elad up to 7 at the half.
Coming back from halftime, the lead was continuing to grow as Elfrid Payton was now getting into the action and we're now down 10. Kemba Walker would be the one once again to save us and bring us back with some real big shots as well as creating plays for Kidd-Gilchrist, Marvin Williams, and Gerald Henderson. Noah Vonleh would explode in the third quarter continuing to bring in rebounds at a crazy pace, as well as working on favorable matchups down low against some less athletic big men. Jefferson would make a layup with a minute left to tie it up, but Vucevic would make two straight layups as the quarter ended to put Orlando back up 5.
As the 4th began we needed something big to happen to be able to sustain a lead and extend it enough to pick up the win. Gary Neal and Gerald Henderson would both make shots to start the quarter and bring it within 1. Payton and Oladipo would answer and then a little later Kemba would drain a 3 pointer to pull ahead by 1. Finally at the 7 minute mark the good Charlotte defenese would finally show up and allow us 9 straight points. Tobias Harris was having notneo that though as he would bring it within 2 points with 2 minutes left. Kemba would work it down into Vonleh and he'd nail the basket to go up 4 and that's where it basically ended as Orlando started fouling and we sank almost every free throw. Victory sealed!
