Bucks clean house, Kidd out

With his contract expired, the Bucks decided to not renew his contract and clean out house, which in turn freed up the budget to grow the team further. The only returning member is Ethan O'Brien, the Chief Financial Officer, as the Bucks posted a sizable profit despite the struggles by the team on the court, but Kozlov went out and found a new team of coaches to lead the Bucks, starting off with his assistant, he signed Nathan Masters to the job.

Masters is a shrewd negotiator and should help the Bucks in the upcoming offseason especially with several potential moves on the horizon, this team needs help and he could help Kozlov with all the moves needed.

With the signing of an assistant GM, the Bucks moved to coach where they signed Noah Taylor. He was signed to a one year deal, where he has a chance to prove if he can lead the Bucks to the next level, he is an average coaching talent but is an excellent developer and should help this very young team move along and that may be enough to keep himself courtside for years to come.

In a huge coup, the Milwaukee Bucks went out and signed a retired player to help Noah Taylor. Tim Duncan recently retired and decided to take up coaching but without funds to secure him in San Antonio oddly, the ex-forward will be taking his talents to Milwaukee to be an assistant coach where he may grow into the head coach one day.

The team also announced their signing of a new head scout and trainer. Kuba Gooding will take over the scouting responsibilities, and Jim Gillen to be the trainer. Kozlov spending a premium on his training staff is no surprise given the slew of injuries that plagued last season.

Re: Buck Up! - Milwaukee Bucks -

Sanders traded prior to the draft!

It seems that Larry Sanders got his wish, as the Bucks managed to find a likewise team bloated with draft picks in the Boston Celtics and made a move for their pick they had received from the Brookyln Nets, the seventh pick in the draft (the Celtics still have two more). This move gives the Bucks a lot more financial "wiggle room" for the upcoming season by clearing an 11 million dollar contract from the books in exchange for a talented rookie, and rookie contract.

Sanders will get a chance to start for a team that made some noise in the playoffs a year ago by knocking off the top seeded Bulls and will hopefully quell his thirst so to speak, as he had become a cancer on the Bucks, it's a win-win, as the Celtics get a talented big in exchange for a draft pick they likely didn't need to get a proven commodity, and with the depth at the bigs in this years draft, it doesn't hurt to move a few picks back.

A look at the Bucks offseason

Signings

Kobe Bryant (SG) - 38 Years Old - Lower Merion (HS) - 6'6 205 LBS
Kobe Bryant in Milwaukee?! It seems that the pitch of leading Milwaukee to the promised land was a bit too enticing for the hall of famer, as he accepted a one year deal to come off the bench in Milwaukee. Los Angeles allowed him to leave surprisingly and the young Bucks could definitely use his mentorship in the locker room with so many young players on the roster. He's a shell of what he once was, but he is a fierce competitor and the four million they spent on him won't hurt at all. Especially since he can float to the three and help out there as well.

Drafting

Pat Stribling (PG) 6'5 202 LBS Georgia Tech
Pat Stribling was high on the Bucks list, mainly as they seek a guard rotation with Rondo quickly starting to dip talent wise, and Stribling should immediately split time with Andrew Harrison. Stribling is a defensive forte and a penetrating guard, his shot isn't very effective but his defense is excellent and he's a good penetrator.

Howie Miller (SG) 6'3 193 LBS Texas
Howie is another shooter to come off the bench, his mid range is his forte and he needs a good amount of work from beyond the arc and that will be a likely focus for him as he matures, but he will hit from inside the arc almost efortlessly. His defense is also very good.

Carl Pearson (C) 7'3 277 LBS Southern Illinois
The Bucks needed a back up for Willie Cauley-Stein and they got one in Pearson, he is a great scorer inside of the paint but isn't good at much else, his defense is weak and despite his size he struggles with rebounds. He is a raw project and wasn't meant to fight for a starting spot, but he will be a good back up in due time.

Richie Nichols (PF) 6'9 235 LBS Syracuse
Looks like a season of watching from the best seats in house for Nichols, he is extremely raw and really won't make much if any contribution this season if this team is half as good as it looks on paper.

Chip Barnes (SF) 6'8 232 LBS Texas A&M
Barnes was drafted for one specific reason and that was his unmatched athleticism, a blur on the court and can sky with the best of them, sadly outside of being a terror on the rim, he isn't a very good shooter and his defense is average at best. He needs to study the game, but he is a project player and that's a good spot for this team as they can afford to allow him to learn.

Re: Buck Up! - Milwaukee Bucks -

Free agency fallout

In a free agency period that had stars among stars, it's time to look at where the dust settled, Dwight Howard and Anthony Davis picked their homes, but naturally you don't start dinner with the main course, you start with the appetizers!

The Utah Jazz signed Evan Turner to a 3 yearr deal in hopes that he can display some of that tenacity and ability he had in his more youthful days of his career, the deal at 16.88M isn't too bad cost wise.

Adding another skilled shot technician, Jimmer Fredette capitalized on a career year to get a 20 million dollar pay day as the Atlanta Hawks add the embattled shooting guard.

The Raptors were able to bring back Jonas Valanciunas to a one year deal shortly after he was courted by the Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee Bucks. He was a compensatory prize that was left after the bigger names waded through their offers, he is hoping to push his big pay day to next year.

The Phoenix Suns pick up the talented but struggled Dion Waiters on a one year trial contract, the Suns hope he can prove to be what the Cavaliers had once hoped he would be, while Waiters hopes to prove he can get that big payday! The Suns would also add Reggie Jackson on an extended 3 year 30 million dollar deal.

The Warriors coordinated an attack at the foundation of the Bigmen in the free agency pool by signing Miles Plumlee, Andrew Nicholson and Festus Ezeli all to one year deals.

The Magic fail to resign Goran Dragic and the Brooklyn Nets scoop up the Finals MVP in a 3 year deal. The Nets who can't seem to get enough point guards also picked up Brandon Knight in a 4 year deal.

The Wizards matched the offer sheet that the Bucks offered their small forward, Kostas Papanikolaou.

The Detroit Pistons brought back Andre Drummond on a 4 year 70 million dollar deal.

The Miami Heat picked up Timofey Mozgov as they hope to get a truely dominant front court unit assembled, and they are well on their way. The Miami Heat also poached Jared Sullinger.

The Los Angeles Lakers go two deep at the 2 guard, signing both Bradley Beal and Lance Stephenson to extended deals with the money that Kobe Bryant is no longer using, and they are much better for it. The Lakers also traded Paul Millsap to get a first round draft pick. The Lakers would also sign DeMar DeRozan to man the helm at point guard.

Finally the two big players of the off season, Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard have new homes. The New Orleans Pelicans couldn't make a good enough offer to return their franchise bigman and instead watched him leave for.. San Antonio! The Spurs get their bigman the year after Tim Duncan retired and just like that after a year of struggles, they suddenly propel themselves upwards in a very tough western conference, but they aren't the only team in the West to make a splash.

Dwight Howard is heading north, way north. The Minnesota Timberwolves some how managed to poach the enigma from the Houston Rockets and just like that, the Timberwolves are now one of the better teams in the West on paper, there are a few question marks, but this could be a changing of fortunes up north.

Milwaukee Bucks 2016 Season Preview

Milwaukee Bucks Depth Chart - 2016
STARTER2ND3RD4TH
PGRajon Rondo (81)Pat Stribling (75)Andrew Harrison (75)
SGEric Bledose (86)Kobe Bryant (78)Howie Miller (75)Fred VanVleet (72)
SFJabari Parker (79(Chip Barnes (67)
PFKristaps Porzingis (81)Tristan Thompson (80)Richie Nichols (70)
CWillie Cauley-Stein (79)Carl Pearson (71)

The Milwaukee Bucks bring a loaded line up to the table in 2016, with no glaring weaknesses across the board, this is a team thats finally primed to escape mediocrity and make a leap towards playoff contention and maybe even championship contention, a fresh new staff across the board has a significant change in outlook for this team. This is a team with an average age of 23, skewed heavily by Kobe Bryant (38).

This is a young team with a new coach and new staff, to say it's malleable would be an understatement and who better to mentor this group than Kobe Bryant? The superstar will come off the bench but what will be even more invaluable is what he can impart on a group that plays in a city substantially less "invested" than Los Angeles, bringing out the fierce competitiveness is a huge benefit of bringing him in.

The Milwaukee Bucks come into the 2016 season at 20th in the NBA.com Power Rankings, 24th in the 2K Sports Power Rankings and 20th in Marc Spears Power Rankings. Needless to say when 16 teams make the playoffs, they have some work to do and this is a roster definitely capable of making the playoffs.

Rajon Rondo will be officially the captain despite likely being the third or fourth best player on the court at any given time, his veteran leadership brings a definitely coolness to this group on the court, and Kobe Bryant is there to provide that to the second platoon. Eric Bledsoe returns from injury after being on pace for a career season that was cut short far too early. Kristaps Porzingis will man the helm at Power Forward and bringing about a strongly improved defensive repertoire, something the Latvian needed to work on and he did. Wille Cauley-Stein emerges from the train wreck of last season as the lone center from the squad last year, and he brings an even more improved defense making him a borderline elite interior defender, he is very athletic and in a contract year, expect him to make some moves.

Off the bench the key players are going to be Tristan Thompson who will be trade bait for some hungry teams but if he is happy playing in that role, he could stay in Milwaukee where he had a decent season off the bench. Andrew Harrison continues to improve but rookie Pat Stribling is breathing down his back for the second spot on the depth chart, for now Harrison is the clear back up but this is a very good spot for the Bucks to be in.

Howie Miller will split time with Kobe Bryant, with a high chance of Bryant playing at the 3 given his height advantage over Miller, and ownership has stated their rallying behind Miller in hopes of developing him further. Fred VanVleet continues to be a three point specialist and added a little on the midrange game as he spent more time in the offseason focusing on the offensive aspect, his defense isn't weak, but it isn't a strength either.

The Milwaukee Bucks open their season in Minnesota against the new look Timberwolves. Their first divisional match up will be in Milwaukee against the Cleveland Cavaliers who continue to fade. The Bucks are projected for another fourth place finish in the Central, which boasted three teams in the playoffs a year ago.

Re: Buck Up! - Milwaukee Bucks -

Kobe Bryant takes an early shot in the Bucks loss

MIL 28 16 32 23 10 109
MIN 23 24 23 29 11 110

Controversy strikes! Bledsoe over the line?

(Minneapolis, MN) - The new look Timberwolves came into this game with high expectations and very nearly had their hopes dashed by a scrappy young Milwaukee squad that didn't yield from any challenge the team threw at them. The Bucks actually led through most of the game before succumbing in the fourth and having to make a small rally. It might've taken a judgement call by a referee that will definitely be talked about for a while, as to whether the buzzer beater by Eric Bledsoe had been a three, but regardless, the referee made his call and the Milwaukee Bucks get their first tally in the loss column.

Led by Dwight Howard (29 PTS - 17 REB - 2 BLK), the Timberwolves saw a strong post presence that was led by a beautiful pick and roll game orchestrated by the maestro of the offense in Ricky Rubio. Early passes went wide and didn't connect, but finally the alley oops connected and the offense started churning, and when the Bucks crashed inside? Eric Fournier (21 PTS) and Andrew Wiggins (12 PTS) led an outside barrage. The Timberwolves played like a true championship contender for a good portion of the game and that's the effect that adding a player in the caliber of Dwight Howard.

On the flipside of things, the Bucks boards largely came from three players. Tristan Thompson, Willie Cauley-Stein [who also had 4 blocks] and Kristaps Porzingis all had double digit rebounds, an obvious working point for Stein and Porzingis and forming those numbers against a force such as Dwight Howard was impressive, while Jabari Parker in his first game back from injury had 23 points and 7 assists. Eric Bledsoe had 18 points and 5 assists in his return to the hard court. Kobe Bryant scored 15 points in his Milwaukee debut and the rookies Howie Miller (14 PTS), Pat Stribbling (5 PTS) and
Carl Pearson (1 REB - 1 STL) had good to average debuts in their openers.

The sting will be felt as the Bucks fall to 0-1 thanks to a referee's decision that Bledsoe was inside the arc on his buzzer beating three that cleared the net and dropped the Bucks which was on the verge of a second huge shot, when Jabari Parker tied the game in regulation at the buzzer on a three. The Milwaukee Bucks face the Portland Trailblazers next.

Milwaukee Bucks Starting Five
Rajon Rondo (PG) 16 PTS - 2 REB - 2 AST - 1 STL
Eric Bledsoe (SG) 18 PTS - 3 REB - 5 AST - 3 STL
Jabari Parker (SF) 23 PTS - 3 REB - 7 AST - 1 BLK
Kristaps Porzingis (PF) 6 PTS - 12 REB - 6 AST - 1 STL - 1 BLK
Willie Cauley-Stein (C) 10 PTS - 10 REB - 7 AST - 1 STL 4 BLK

Minnesota Timberwolves Top Performer
Dwight Howard (C) 29 PTS - 17 REB - 1 AST - 1 STL - 2 BLK

Meet the Milwaukee Bucks!

Rookie Point Guard - Pat Stribling
