Great win over Wagner, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new recruits play. How's Adam Morrison playing for the Zags?

St. Francis (NY) (14-6, 8-3) VS. Monmouth (8-8, 4-3)

Terrier big men baffle Monmouth

St. Francis (NY) remains the hottest team in the NEC with their 3rd straight win and 5th of their last 6 with a win in Monmouth today.

Though for most of the season it has been the Tristan Smith show, today was exactly the opposite. The NEC Player of the Year candidate only put up 4 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

So who led the charge? All 3 of SFC's forwards, led by James St. Robert, who posted another double-double with 21 and 10. It worked perfectly against the Hawks, who only have 8 players on their roster and only 2 big men.

Allan Sheppard led the charge early, as the junior had 14 points and 6 rebounds in the first half alone.

The Terriers, who went into the half up 33-31, went on an 11-3 run right out of the half and pushed the lead to as much as 11. This allowed the Terriers to wear clock on offense and pound the ball to St. Robert and Sheppard, who scored most of the points in the second half.

However, Monmouth came roaring back late. Marques Alston got a layup to go to cut the deficit to 5 with 4 minutes remaining. Chris Kenny's fadeaway cut it to 2 with 2:30 remaining.

But SFC stuck with their plan and pounded inside to St. Robert, who got a layup to go to push the lead to 58-54.

Monmouth desperately needed a basket on their next trip, but Devon Neckles got a steal and Nick Jones got the layup to make it 60-54. Monmouth started fouling, and the Terriers were able to push the lead to 10, coasting home for the victory.

The Terriers are now up to 14-6 overall, 8-3 in NEC play.

Monmouth drops to 8-8. SFC returns to action on January 26th when Mount St. Mary's comes to the Pope. SFC has 6 games remaining in the regular season.

As am I. I still don't know the play type of Flanagan, I don't know how Woodward can do for us, but I'm pining to see Douglas.

Morrison is among the top 5 in the nation in scoring and last time I checked he's in the running for the Wooden Award. (keep in mind I've played ahead and am right about the end of the season.)

Haha, no worries, I played this stretch of games early this week, you did nothing. But it does get worse, however.

Terriers roll in Brooklyn

St. Francis-NY came in to a home game against Mt. St. Mary's and took care of business in a 79-58 blowout, an important game for potential NEC Tournament seeding for both teams, who are right in the middle of the pack right now.

SFC was in a tight one until they went on a 10-0 run toward the end of the first half, and eased out to a 42-25 halftime lead.

The Terriers built upon this lead, and got up by as many as 21 before putting in the subs to coast home. SFC is now on a 4 game win streak, and is sitting in the 3 seed for the NEC tourney if the season ended today.

Allan Sheppard led the way with a career-high 27 points, only James St. Robert reached double digits.

Tristan Smith again was very quiet, only tallying 4 points and 6 assists.

Mychal Kearse led MSM with 17 and 8 rebounds. Charles Cook followed with 15.

Are you kidding me? CCSU shocks Terriers

OK, I realize Central Connecticut State wasn't at full strength when we played in their place (I think it was 2 starters playing hurt, I learned after the game), but we still beat them by 58. Was there any reason to believe we couldn't do it again?

Somehow, SFC came out flat, only led by 5 at the half, then dropped a goose egg and lost by 12 to the Blue Devils, who, in their own defense, are playing for a NEC Tourney spot.

How did this happen exactly? SFC let the Blue Devils stay in the game.

CCSU shaved the 5 point halftime deficit as 7'3 center Jermaine Middleton fouled out right at that time. The teams traded the lead for a while, but DeMario Anderson gave CCSU their first lead of 4 or more with a 3, 60-56.

Lenny Jefferson hit a deep 3 of his own to ush the lead to 7, and the game got out of hand from there. SFC missed their next 3 shots, and CCSU hit their free throws down the stretch, resulting in a 12 point victory.

Tristan Smith led the poor shooting for the Terriers, going only 4-17 from the field. Christian Brown went 4-9, James St. Robert had a 2-7 day. Smith led with 14.

Anderson had 20 for the Blue Devils, Jefferson followed with 18. Ingo Beaudet had 5 points and 8 boards after Middleton fouled out.

SFC is now second in the conference despite the loss, and is a 1/2 game back of Sacred Heart for the #1 seed in the still wide-open race. The Terriers play Fairleigh Dickinson on February 3.

St. Francis (NY) (15-8, 9-5) VS. Fairleigh Dickinson (12-8, 8-3)
Rothman Center
Teaneck, NJ
February 3, 2006

Knights trample Terriers

Despite being an assist shy of a triple-double, Allan Sheppard couldn't lead his Terriers.

Metran Delaney said entering the game that he thought Fairleigh Dickinson, the reigning NEC Champions, were the most talented team in the conference. Behind his St. Francis Terriers, of course.

Tonight, the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson validated Delaney's point, and soundly defeated the Terriers in Teaneck.

The Knights raced out to a 38-29 halftime lead, but could've been a lot bigger if not for the efforts of Allan Sheppard, who is starting to emerge as the star of this team. Sheppard went off, with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead his team.

After allowing the Knights to push the lead to as much as 18 at one point, SFC started to make a run to come back. Sheppard converted an and 1, and Christian Brown followed with a bucket to make it 56-43 with 5 minutes to go. Sean Dantzler got a basket of his own to cut the deficit to 11.

Andrea Crosariol got a jam off a missed free throw and shoved the lead back to 13.

Fortunately, SFC got to the free throw line, with their 2 best free throw shooters in Brown and Dantzler, no less. Brown got a jumper, and Dantzler hit 4 straight free throws to pull the Terriers within 7 with 2:50 to go.

After Bernal Murray's layup, Tristan Smith (once again quiet, only 9 points), sank a 3, and Sheppard got a dunk to make it 60-56 with 1:50 to go.

Sadly, that would be the closest SFC got.

Chad Timberlake went to the line for a +1, and though he didn't get it, Murray rebounded and he got to the line himself. He got the back end of his free throws to go, and Timberlake stole the inbound. He missed a free throw after getting fouled, but Crosariol got the offensive board, a foul and both free throws.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored 6 points without SFC even touching the ball.

SFC fell 69-56, and, the worst part, Sheppard fell 1 assist short of the triple double.

He and Dantzler led SFC in scoring with 15 and 14, respectively. SFC only shot 21-53 on the day.

Andre Harris led FDU with 16, Murray had 14, and Timberlake had 12. Gordon Klaiber, the favorite for NEC Player of the Year, was in foul trouble most of the way, but had 11 points.

FDU improves to 12-8 and is a game back for second place in the NEC. SFC has lost two in a row and is now 15-8. They remain on the road to face Quinnipiac next, who they lost to at home in January.

Well, they shot something like 18-56 in the first game, and shot 28-59 this time. Had to figure that would've improved, but they were a lot more physical this game, more willing to take shots, and it paid off.

But I must point out, Middleton is awful in this game. He may be 7'3, but that is all he has. Sadly, we face him for two more years, so more opportunity to get better.
