Re: Dayton Flyers Legacy (CH 2k8)

Dayton Flyers at Saint Louis Billikens
Mar 21, 20081ST2NDOTSCORE
#9 Dayton (20-11)39391492
#8 Saint Louis (21-11)48301290

After falling far behind early, it looked like Dayton would not be able to win its first tournament game since 1990. But an early run by the Flyers eventually tied the game up in the second half, and eventually they took the lead. However, star guard Brian Roberts left the game with an injury with about 10 minutes left, and all hope appeared to be lost. But great performances from other players lifted the team, and the Flyers were able to send the game to overtime. Down by 2 with a few seconds left, Chris Wright hit a jumper to tie the game up and send it to another overtime. In the second overtime, three Flyers (Sandoval, Johnson, Hueslman) fouled out, but great defense by the remaining players allowed Dayton to hold on to the 2 point lead. Unfortunately, Brian Roberts will need two weeks to recover from his injury, and won't be able to play unless Dayton makes a miracle run to the Final Four.

Notable Performances:
Chris Wright 7-8 (1-1 3pt), 23 points, 8 rebounds
Andres Sandoval 5-10 (2-4 3pt), 14 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists
London Warren 4-5, 8 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists
Charles Little 4-8, 12 points, 5 rebounds

Dayton Flyers at North Carolina Tar Heels
Mar 23, 20081ST2NDSCORE
#9 Dayton (20-11)352459
#1 North Carolina (28-8)553792

Early in the game, it was apparent that North Carolina was clearly too much for the Flyers. The Tar Heels took a 20 point lead into halftime, and kept their foot on the gas in the second half on their way to a dominating 33 point win. Although it was a disappointing end to the season, Dayton had a great season, making the tournament for the first time since 2004, and winning a tournament game for the first time since 1990.

Notable Performances:
Charles Little 8-14, 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks
Andres Sandoval 1-2, 4 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks

Re: Dayton Flyers Legacy (CH 2k8)

Roster Preview:
Point Guards (2007-08 stats):
#1 London Warren (4.6 PPG 1.9 RPG 3.1 APG)- With the graduation of Andres Sandoval, Warren will now enter the starting lineup. He was second on the team in assists last year, and impressively committed less than one turnover per game.

#11 Stephen Thomas (1.3 PPG 0.3 RPG 0.5 APG)- Thomas rarely saw action last year, but he enters this season as the primary backup to London Warren.

#20 Freddie Capel- Capel is a decent shooter, and a very good defender. He will play a few minutes a game, but will begin the season third on the depth chart at point guard.

Shooting Guards:
#32 Marcus Johnson (6.5 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 0.9 APG)- Last year's 6th man will now have to replace Brian Roberts, one of Dayton's all time great scorers. Johnson is not as great of a scorer, but is very athletic and should do well with increased minutes.

#0 Mickey Perry (2.5 PPG, 0.4 RPG, 0.6 APG)- Perry was buried on the depth chart last year, but now should see much more playing time. In 2007-08, he shot very well in limited action, going 12-23 from behind the arc.

Small Forwards:
#23 Chris Wright (7.8 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 0.7 APG)- Wright was inconsistent in his freshman season, but with a year under his belt he could emerge as Dayton's best all around player.

#24 Raheim McGrath- McGrath needs to improve his shooting, but seems to be good at finishing around the rim. He won't play much as a freshman, but could be a valuable reserve at forward.

Power Forwards:
#15 Charles Little (9.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 0.5 APG)- Little led the Flyers in rebounding last season, and is likely to repeat himself in 2008-09. He is a very poor shooter, but is a great inside presence on offense and defense.

#34 Devin Searcy (3.6 PPG, 2.8 RPG, 0.1 APG)- Searcy is one of Dayton's tallest players, but lacks the strength to be a great center. He will still come off the bench, and will compete with Thiago Cordeiro for minutes.

#54 Thiago Cordeiro (4.8 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 0.1 APG)- Cordeiro played well when Kurt Huelsman went down with an injury last season, but will remain as a backup.

Centers:
#41 Kurt Huelsman (5.5 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 0.3 APG)- Huelsman is a great defender and shot blocker, but last season connected on less than 40% of his shot attempts. He is still Dayton's best true center, and will reclaim his spot in the starting lineup.

Walkons:
PF Hollis Hodge and PF Tyquawn Echols are both decent players, but probably will not play unless there are injuries to other post players.
