Warriors, Bulls, Grizzlies & Pistons Lock In Future With Key Re-signings

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors inked young small forward Harrison Barnes to 4-year deal worth $31 million. Barnes started for the Warriors for the majority of the season and was a crucial part of Golden States championship run. It was once thought that Golden State may deal Barnes as they acquired Andre Iguodala but this move proves that they see him as a long term member of this team.

Chicago Bulls

Jimmy Butler's break out season has earned him a 5-year, $46 million dollar deal to keep him with the Chicago Bulls. Defense & versatility on the wing has been a hallmark for the Bulls over the last few years under coach Thibodeaux. Being able to up his scoring average to 17.6 definitely improved his stock & the Bulls future.

Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis has one of the most feared frontcourts in the NBA and that is in large part to Marc Gasol. Gasol has progressively gotten better every year & is now considered be one of the best centers in the league. With Randolph aging and the Grizzlies wanting to continue the rise to the NBA's elite; signing Gasol was a must & $73 million over 5 years got the job done.

Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have had their bumps & bruises over the past few years but one of the bright spots came in the form of Andre Drummond. Drummond has mounds of upside and is only 20 years old. Detroit has a lot of pieces for the future & those pieces are well "centered" in the middle with a young, talented & physical Andre Drummond. It's very likely that Drummond's new 4-year, $58 million dollar deal may look like a steal within the next few years.

Pistons Waste No Time In Finding New Head Coach

Former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott has been hired by the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons organization said that they wanted to move quickly to ensure stability going into the next season with their young core of Drummond, Jennings, Jackson & what looks to be the re-signing of Monroe. Coach Scott said that he is thrilled to be given the opportunity & looks forward to reestablishing the team that he battled in his playing years.

Bargain Prices For The NBA's Best

Experts say that we can expect to continue to see the trend of NBA team's signing star talent for what seems to be discounted prices in comparison to prior years.

We've already seen Jimmy Butler & Marc Gasol sign for far less than the max contract's that we thought they would require. With plenty of top tier talent in this upcoming free agency we are sure to see more of this.

David Aldridge says that aside from teams wanting to avoid the luxury tax as the economy tightens, players are increasingly becoming more enticed by the opportunity of winning a championship.

Talking to many players around the league, the consensus is that players no longer want the max contract and the inability for their team to sign more top talent. Players want to pair up with other stars, win games & maintain the core of their team to make multiple runs.

Dirk Nowitzki & of course San Antonio's "Big 3" are credited with starting this trend but there are many others that took much less for the success of their team and many more to come. This is a trend that is sure is sure to form some solidarity between players & put a smile on the owners' faces.

June 16th, Making Moves

Heat re-sign Goran Dragic to 4 year, $40 million dollar deal. The Heat are very high on Dragic & coach Spoelstra has stated that he would like Dragic to carry the torch for Dwayne Wade.

Mikhail Prokhorov plans to sell the Nets before free agency begins. Experts believe that with Brooklyn's recent trades of Joe Johnson & Deron Williams; that they are attempting to re-brand.

An unnamed source says that the Philadelphia 76ers are targeting Oklahoma shooting guard Lucas Bowe if the ping pong balls do not fall their way.

Kobe Bryant says that he is contemplating retirement. He has been mentioned to want serious changes in L.A. if he is to finish out his contract.

Pelicans lock up Asik for the next 5 years, now hoping to re-sign Anthony Davis. Anthony Davis is an unrestricted free agent.

Louisville PF Tashawn Sullivan claims that he will make more of an impact in the NBA than Dre Redd and teams would “be making a big mistake” to pass on him.

While the Knicks hope that the lottery balls fall their way, the Knicks state that they are not opposed to drafting Chris Valentine if Redd is not available as they feel that he is the “next best thing”.
