After a promising first half that saw Charleston Southern (10-12, 4-5) hold a 36-35 halftime advantage, a disastrous second half saw hosts VMI (13-8, 6-3) coast to an 81-61 victory.
For the last few games, CSU has been able to spread the ball around and move it to find the open shot. Tonight, they could do no such thing as VMI doubled them up in assists (20-10). Jeremy Sexton continued his scoring as he led the team with 17 points and Paul Gombwer had a solid game with 8 points and 11 assists.
Michael Sparks was able to redeem himself after his last game against CSU as he dropped 19 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and added 2 steals to lead the Keydets. D.J. Covington also had himself a nice game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
It was a tough loss for the Buccaneers after the first half showed so much promise. They will next find themselves back at CSU Fieldhouse to host High Point (9-11, 2-8) after beating them 80-67 at Millis Athletic Convention Center back on January 21st.

For the second game running Charleston Southern (10-13, 4-6) have lost a game after leading at the half. In tonight's game the Buccaneers held a 28-24 advantage before losing it late against High Point (10-11, 3-8) in a 63-57 defeat.
The guards for Charleston Southern may have had the best offensive showing in terms of total points, but their shooting was awful at best. They combined for 10-30 from the field, 5-20 from three. Jeremy Sexton finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists, while Sheldon Strickland finished with 15 points, 5 assists, 3 steals but had a season-high 5 turnovers.
For High Point it was quite a showing for the starting five with three of them achieving double figure scoring. Leading the way was Nick Barbour with 17 points and 3 assists and Corey Law with 15 points, 9 assists and 2 blocks. Also chipping in was their center Travis Elliot with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
With the loss, Charleston Southern are slipping steadily in the Big South standings. Up next for the Buccaneers will be a home game with Liberty who is keeping pace with the top of the league with a conference record of 7-4 even though their overall record of 8-16 isn't so spectacular.

In what has become a bad habit, Charleston Southern (10-14, 4-7) has dropped another game after leading at the half. This time they were up 27-24 at home against Liberty (9-16, 8-4), however the offense sputtered in the second half and the Flames were able to win this big road game 58-49.
CSU was, once again dominant in the guard position with both Jeremy Sexton and Sheldon Strickland hitting for double figures, however it wasn't enough. Sexton finished with 14 points and 4 assists and Strickland had 11 points. Off the bench Dominique Williams had a very nice game with 10 points on 4-4 shooting in just 12 minutes of action.
The game was won by the big men of Liberty to keep their hopes alive of a Big South regular season championship. Sommy Ogukwe had the most impressive night with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while John Brown had 14 points and 4 rebounds.
With only a handful of games left, Charleston Southern takes a trip to visit UNC Asheville (12-10, 7-4) at the Justice Center. UNC Asheville is currently riding a two game losing streak which has seen them lose their lead atop the Big South, while the Buccaneers have dropped three straight. One of these teams will be able to break this trend!

This was an instant Big South classic. Neither team played as if it were on a two or three game skid. In the end it was UNC Asheville(13-10, 8-4) that held serve at home in an exciting 77-70 overtime victory over Charleston Southern (10-15, 4-8).
The Buccaneers have a solid back court brewing as they move towards the end of the season. Both Jeremy Sexton and Sheldon Strickland have been the consistent threat the fans thought they had since game one, however the consistency hasn't come until late in the season. Sexton finished the game with 23 points, 5 assists and 2 steals as he was just short of a career high for points and matched his career high for 7 three point field goals. Strickland wasn't far behind as he dropped 21 points and added 4 assists with 5 three point field goals of his own. Kenny Mitchell also had a nice game with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
It wasn't quite his 33 point performance of last time out against CSU, but Matt Dickey went for 30, adding 3 rebounds and 3 assists. One Bulldog that did have a career day was Jaleel Roberts who set career highs for both points and rebounds going for 16 points and 23 rebounds in a monster performance that couldn't be contained. The Bulldogs proved why they should still be the team to beat come tournament time as they overpowered a smaller Buccaneer team en route to 40 trips to the line, as opposed to CSU's 11.
With the loss, Charleston Southern are now bound to the bottom of the league standings with High Point and Winthrop at 4-8 with two league games left to play.
