Tennessee continues to play great basketball as they win their 8th game in a row!

The Vols were really carried by 3 players, 1 of which you would not expect. Senior SF J.P Prince led all scorers with 21 points. Prince was 10 of 13 shooting from the field. PF Tyler Smith had a solid game as he scored 20 points on 8 of 14 shooting and collected 8 rebounds. Then, Backup C Brian Williams scored 13 points and collected 8 rebounds in just 21 minutes of playing time.

Mississippi State was led by Junior SF Ravern Johnson who scored 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting, including 5 of 7 from behind the 3 point arc. SG Barry Stewart, who is a Tennessee native, scored 17 points and made 4 3 pointers. The only other Bulldogs player to score in double figures was C Jarvis Varnado, who is also a Tennessee native. Varnado scored 10 points and collected 8 rebounds.

The Vols will close the regular season on February 26th vs. the LSU Tigers at home for Senior Day. These Seniors will be playing their final home game at Thompson-Boling Arena:

What a great way to send the seniors out! All 6 seniors got in the game today for the Vols and scored. PF Tyler Smith led the way for Tennessee, as he went out with a bang. Smith got another double double as he scored 25 points and collected 10 boards. Senior PG Bobby Maze scored 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting, including going 5 for 5 from the free throw line. This was the first game that Maze had over 10 points, since he scored 15 back on February 2nd. Then, J.P Prince continued to be extremely efficient shooting the ball as he scored 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field and he made all 4 of his free throw attempts. Wayne Chism came 2 rebounds short of a double double as he scored 10 points and collected 8 rebounds. Backup Guard Josh Bone got in the game briefly and made his only shot count as he swished a contested 3 which was a big momentum builder for the Vols. Then, backup Guard/Forward Quinn Cannington scored a fast break layup and that was his only shot attempt in the game. Glad that all the Seniors could all score on Senior Day!

LSU was really carried by 3 players the entire game which were PF Tasmin Mitchell, SG Aaron Dotson and PG Bo Spencer. Senior PF Tasmin Mitchell had a game high 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting. Junior PG Bo Spencer scored 16 points on 5 of 12 shooting. 4 of those shots were from behind the 3 point arc. Then, True Freshman SG Aaron Dotson scored 14 points on 5 of 15 shooting. They were the only LSU players to score over 7 points.

Tennessee finishes the regular season on a 9 game winning streak and a record of 22-8. Tennessee will play the winner of the Auburn/Florida game in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament.

March 4, 2010: Auburn vs. #10 Tennessee

Auburn Tigers at Tennessee Volunteers
Mar 4, 20101ST2NDSCORE
Auburn (16-15)313768
#10 Tennessee (23-8)532376

Tennessee started off extremely hot in this game and then just kept fading as the game went on. After scoring 53 points in the first half, the Vols could only manage 23 in the 2nd half as they were outscored by 14 in the 2nd half by the Tigers.

Senior PF Tyler Smith led Tennessee in this game. Smith scored a game high 28 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field and also collected 8 rebounds. Senior SF J.P Prince scored 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting. Prince also got 4 steals and 2 blocks in the game. Sophomore SG Scotty Hopson scored 11 points for the Vols and Senior C Wayne Chism scored 10 points as they were the only Vols to score more than 5 points in the game.

Auburn only had 2 players score more than 7 points in this game. Starting SG Tay Waller led the way as he scored 25 points on 8 of 13 shooting, including 4 3 pointers and 5 made free throws. In the two games that Tennessee and Auburn played against each other this year, Tay Waller averaged 29.5 points in those games. The other Auburn Tiger to score in double figures was Senior SF Lucas Hargrove. Hargrove scored 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field, including 2 of 3 from behind the 3 point arc. Auburn turned the ball over 22 times in this game, and 14 of those turnovers were in the first half, which is how Tennessee got out to the huge lead.

So, Tennessee moves on in the SEC Tournament to face the winner of the Ole Miss/Mississippi State game tomorrow night.

Tennessee was led by Senior PF Tyler Smith who got another double double. Smith scored 20 points and collected 13 boards. The bench for Tennessee is what kept them close in the 2nd half when the starters did close to nothing. Backup G Josh Tabb score 13 points in 26 minutes of playing time. Tabb hit all 4 3 pointers he attempted. Backup SG Cameron Tatum also score 13 points, but he did so in just 20 minutes of playing time. Backup C Brian Williams scored 9 points and collected 5 rebounds. Then, Renaldo Woolridge scored 7 points in just 18 minutes of playing time. One stat that I'd like to point out is Tennessee's 3 point % and their free throw % is the exact same.

Ole Miss was led by Sophomore SF Murphy Holloway. Holloway had a game high 34 points on 12 of 28 shooting. Holloway did just about everything in this game as he also had 7 rebounds and dished out 8 assists. Junior PG Chris Warren had an amazing game distributing the ball. Not only did Warren score 13 points, but he dished out 14 assists which is the most against the Vols all year. Reginald Buckner had a very good game on the offensive end of the court for the Rebels as he score 10 points and only missed 1 shot.

Tennessee is now knocked out of the SEC Tournament so they will await their seeding in the NCAA Tournament.

Ole Miss is going to face the winner of the Arkansas/South Carolina game.
