Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 8, 2007: Campbell vs. Radford
Radford, VA -- The Mayhem defense is at it again as 23 Campbell turnovers propelled Radford into the lead which they kept throughout the 2nd half in the 79-68 victory.
Radford was led by starting SF T.J. Gouard who finished with a team high 14 points and 6 rebounds. SG Dave Torbert came off the bench and gave the Highlanders a much needed boost. In his 13 minutes of playing time, Torbert scored 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting, including a perfect 3 of 3 from behind the 3 point line. PG Frederick Garnett added 8 points and had a game high 5 steals. But, once again, the Highlanders' free throw shooting leaves something to be desired, as they shoot just 63% from the line on 15 of 24 shooting.
Campbell was led again by C Tommy Zwikker who had a great performance. Zwikker finished with 14 points and 17 rebounds. PG John Minnifield only shot 1 of 8 from the field, but did stellar job at the free throw line by making all 10 of his attempts. SG Wesley Fulton chipped in 9 points and 5 rebounds. But, despite Zwikker's great performance, it wasn't enough to give the Fighting Camels the win. One big reason the lead grew in the 2nd half was the massive amount of turnovers. Campbell turned the ball over a total of 23 times and that's ultimately what lost them the game down the stretch.
Radford's next game: @ #6 Georgetown, December 15th
Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 15, 2007: Radford vs. #6 Georgetown
Washington D.C. -- The #6 ranked Hoyas' had their way with their undersized opponent tonight and cruised to an easy 78-50 victory.
Radford was led by PG Frederick Garnett who had a really solid performance tonight. Garnett finished with a team high 10 points, 7 assists, and 2 steals. PF Drake Conn finished the game with 9 points on 4 of 6 shooting. Then T.J. Gouard and Aaron Dupre added a combined total of 15 points. The Highlanders had a tough time not fouling the Hoyas' tonight as they shot a total of 35 free throws.
Georgetown was led by NCAA Player of the Year candidate Craig Fraser (Roy Hibbert). Fraser is 7'2", so he definitely had his way in the post against Radford, whose tallest player is 6'9". Fraser ended the game with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks. And quite possibly the most impressive stat was that he shot 8 of 9 from the free throw line. PG Mitchell Ellerbee had a great game in terms of distributing the ball. Ellerbee finished with 8 points and 10 assists on the night. Backup PG Marc Gomes had a great performance off the bench as he chipped in 11 points in just 13 minutes of playing time.
Radford's next game: @ James Madison, December 17th
Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 17, 2007: Radford vs. James Madison
Harrisonburg, VA -- James Madison took care of business tonight as they improve to 6-2 on the year with their victory over Radford, 71-55.
Radford was led by PG Frederick Garnett who finished with 13 points and 3 steals on the night. PF Drake Conn also had a solid performance as he finished with 11 points and 8 boards. Then, SF Reginald Holbrook and C Shaun Howell came off the bench and had quality performances in their short amount of playing time. Holbrook was perfect from the floor, shooting 2 of 2 from the field including making his only 3 point attempt, and he made both free throw attempts. Howell was 3 for 3 from the field had and 2 rebounds and 3 assists in just 9 minutes of playing time.
James Madison was led by PG Preston Sanderson who had an incredible performance. Sanderson ended the game with a double double by scoring 28 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It's not every day you see a Point Guard get a double double by having 10+ rebounds. SG C.J. Schafer had a good night offensively, as he put up 14 points and dished out 5 assists. Then, PF Jaison Northcutt scored 6 points and grabbed 10 boards.
Radford's next game: vs. West Virginia, December 19th
Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 17, 2007: West Virginia vs. Radford
Radford, VA -- West Virginia cruised to the easy victory tonight as they defeated the Radford Highlanders 85-58.
Radford was led by a surprising performance from Backup SG Ryan Ariza. Ariza had a team high 10 points and 7 rebounds in 22 minutes played. PG Frederick Garnett ended with 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Highlanders only shot 33% in the bad loss tonight. One bright spot is they were 22/27 from the free throw line, but the shooting percentage and the 18 turnovers doomed the Highlanders.
West Virginia was really led by just 2 players. Junior PF Veltra Atchinson who scored 31 points and grabbed 6 boards. Junior SG Eric Merriex filled up the stat sheet tonight as he finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Radford's next game: December 28th in the Gulf Coast Challenge
Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 28, 2007: Georgia Southern vs. Radford
Georgia Southern came out victorious in the first round of the Gulf Coast Challenge by defeating Radford by a scored of 84-76.
Radford had a 43-37 lead going into halftime as the offense was really clicking. The Highlanders were shooting 52% going into halftime. But, the second half is when the Eagles took over the game. It all started with 7 minutes left when they went on a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the 2nd half and they didn't look back.
The Highlanders were led by SG Aaron Dupre who had a team high 14 points and 3 steals. Starting C James O'Hanon had a very efficient game shooting the ball as he scored 13 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the field. PG Frederick Garnett chipped in 10 points and dished out 4 assists. But, what killed the Highlanders in the 2nd half were the turnovers. In total, the Highlanders turned the ball over 23 times throughout the game. One bright spot for Radford is that, as a team, they shot 80% from the free throw line, since we all know they have struggled most of the year from the free throw line.
Georgia Southern was led by PF Chad Fitzwater who had a great game. Fitzwater finished with a game high 24 points and 9 rebounds. PG Romas McCleod also had a great game as he finished with 15 points and 9 assists. The Eagles as a team had 18 assists which was a big part of their 2nd half comeback.
Radford's next game: vs. Eastern Michigan, December 28th
Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
December 29, 2007: Eastern Michigan vs. Radford
Radford ends a 4 game losing skid as they defeat Eastern Michigan in the Gulf Coast Challenge 3rd place game, 69-58.
Radford was led by SF T.J. Gouard who finished with a game high 15 points and 8 rebounds. PG Frederick Garnett filled up the stat sheet as he finished with 14 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Then, SG Ryan Ariza came off the bench and scored 10 points on 3 of 6 shooting, in just 10 minutes of playing time. The Highlanders as a team were awful shooting 3's. They shot 5 of 23 from behind the arc, which is 22%. But, the Free Throw % seems to be improving as they shot 82% from the charity stripe today.
Eastern Michigan was led by PG Dwayne Dowling who had a great game in the loss. He finished the game with 12 points, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 2 rebounds. The only other Eastern Michigan player to finish in double figures scoring was SG Henry Hooper. Hooper scored 13 points on 5 of 8 shooting.

Re: The Coaching Legacy of Danny Carmichael (CH 2K8)
January 2, 2008: Radford vs. South Carolina
This game isn't worthy of a box score lol.
This was Radford's last game before conference play starts up... And the Highlanders did not play well at all. South Carolina defeated Radford in what will probably be the lowest scoring game this year, 48-40.
Radford was led by SG Aaron Dupre who had a team high 11 points. The Highlanders as a team shot just 21% from the floor, 19% shooting 3's, and 44 % from the free throw line. This was just a really bad offensive game...
South Carolina was led by PG Fred Schiffner who scored a team high 11 points on 3 of 20 shooting. Yes, you see that right... He missed 17 shots. PF Arturo Oliphant scored 7 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds. The Gamecocks shot 29% from the floor, 18% shooting 3's, and 53% from the free throw line.
Radford's next game: @ Coastal Carolina, January 12th
