3 Team Trade takes place

Bobcats Trade for Draft Picks

With their sights apparently focused on a point guard the Clippers believed one could be selected with the fourth pick in Thursday's NBA draft but not the second, so the Clippers were set to swap picks with the expansion Charlotte Bobcats.

They initially rejected a similar offer from the Atlanta Hawks, in belief that their point guard wouldn't be available at #6 or #17. But the Hawks' offer may have been contingent on Atlanta high school star Dwight Howard's being available to them at No. 2, no sure thing. The night before the draft, rumors started surfacing that the Magic would select Emeka Okafor #1.

Seeing an opportunity to grab two more young players to build with, Bobcats GM Michael Jordan decided to give both franchises what they wanted. The Clippers wanted Predrag Drobnjak off the books, and the #4 Pick. The Hawks wanted the #1 or #2 pick. The Bobcats could help facilitate both of those. And Jordan might have had itchy feet about drafting a big man high again after the Kwame Brown debacle in Washington.

"Now we will have 2 solid draft picks to build our core around, We are targeting some impressive young athletes with the picks'' Charlotte GM Michael Jordan said.

Charlotte Bobcats appoint Steve Kerr as Head Coach

Bobcats appoint Steve Kerr as Head Coach

The Charlotte Bobcats have appointed Steve Kerr as their first head coach.

Kerr, 39, takes over for the expansion franchise. The Bobcats have begun to finalise their roster and GM Michael Jordan felt it important to have a Head Coach in place to help with the process.

Charlotte reached an agreement in principle with Kerr last Wednesday, and have now confirmed his arrival in Charlotte.

The appointment represents Kerr's first foray into the field of coaching following a 15-year playing career that saw him win five NBA titles, all with GM Jordan. Kerr only retired at the end of the 2002-03 season. This appointment will come across as a big risk, but Michael Jordan knows Kerr better than most.

"I'm really excited about the unique opportunity to coach a young talented team and work for this committed management group," Kerr said.

"In my estimation, the Bobcats, from top to bottom, will become one of the marquee organisations in the NBA in the coming years. I'm looking forward to becoming part of that environment and building this franchise the right way from the first season." Kerr said.

"Steve is a born winner. I've said it before, when the game is on the line, I knew Steve had my back! He has been around winning teams and players for years now. I don't think this appointment is a risk. He is a young talented coach who will help his players grow with him. We can lay the foundations the right way, a mix of veterans with championship experience and young athletic players. The future looks bright for Charlotte basketball." Jordan said.

The Bobcats are also said to be finalising the contract of Assistant Coach Bill Cartwright. Another one of Jordans ex teammates and Bulls member. Cartwright brings a wealth of championship experience to aide Kerr's development.

Re: Charlotte Bobcats Roster

Going all the way back to 04, interesting. Try to make Josh Smith into monster, he has the tools. Also make GWallace solid 2way player
