Suns win Season Opener against Timberwolves!
PHOENIX - What a way to open up the season with a tight win against a young athletic Minnesota squad. Not only was this a look at these young teams but also a look at 2 rookies selected in the Top 10 of the 2015 NBA Draft; the 4th overall selection PG Rashard Wallace of the Suns and the 7th overall selection SG Lucas Bowe. Both rookies were out to put their names in the spotlight and both wanting nothing more than to get the win.
It was a closely contested battle but after a taking a 8-0 run in the fourth quarter and shooting 46% from the field and 30% from deep for the game the Suns would cruise to a 6 point win taking a
115-109 victory over Minnesota. Rookie PG R. Wallace led the win taking Player of the Game honors recording a double-double 36 points and 12 assists shooting 58% from the field (11/19), 2/3 from deep, and 12/14 from the charity stripe. He also had 4 steals and 3 rebounds but the only downside 6 turnovers.
Somebody will be all over Sportscenter tonight.
Wallace didn't do it all alone though with 3 other players scoring in double digits. 6th man Marcus Thornton finished with 26 points shooting 56% from the field (9/16), 50% from deep (4/8), and 4/4 at the line while Markieff Morris added 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks shooting 57% from the field (8/14) and Nick Young added 15 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals shooting 35% from the field (6/17) but 1/10 from deep. Though he didn't score in double digits scoring just 6 points shooting 50% from the field (3/6) starting center Alex Len racked up 12 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
Somebody else will be joining Wallace on Sportscenter tonight as well and that's rookie guard Lucas Bowe though his team didn't win he finished with 36 points and 4 assists shooting 65% from the field (15/23), 2/4 from deep and 4/4 at the line. 3 other players scored in double digits as well with Andrew Wiggins finishing with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals shooting 39% from the field (7/18) but 0/3 from deep, Nikola Pekovic recorded a double-double finishing with 13 points and 17 rebounds shooting 67% from the field (6/9) but 1/5 at the line, and Zach LaVine added 10 points and 2 rebounds shooting 4/4 from the field but 2/5 at the line. Ricky Rubio put his stamp on the game as well though he shot 3/5 from the field scoring just 6 points he also had 12 assists and 3 steals but 7 turnovers.
The Timberwolves had 19 total turnovers and went 15/25 at the line for the game which is the obvious reasons for why they lost this close game. Especially how poorly Anthony Bennett played playing 31 minutes but only finishing with 3 points and 5 rebounds with 2 turnovers shooting 1/8 from the field and 0/3 from deep.
The only downside after hitting a and-one jumper Marcus Morris went down hard on his ankle and was farther diagnosed with a broken ankle. He'll be out for 2-4 months.
