Bulls Bear Down, Beat Grizzlies

Chicago, IL - They played harder. They played smarter. They played better. The Bulls righted the ship and handed the Grizzlies a 106-87 defeat.

Pau Gasol was a force in the middle, scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and swatting four shots. The Bulls locked in defensively and held the Grizzlies to just 87 points and 43% shooting. Not only did the defense play well but offensively they shot 56% from the field and 57% from deep.

Nikola Mirotic broke out of his slump and scored 15 points including two of three from deep.

Drummond and Jennings Dominate, Bulls Fall to Pistons
Chicago, IL - Andre Drummond and Brandon Jennings took it to the Bulls from the opening tip (18 points, 16 rebounds and 26 points, 13 assists respectively) and handed them a 105-96 defeat.

Chicago got a big time performance from Pau Gasol. He filled the stat sheet with 12 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and four blocks, but it wasn't enough to overcome the two-headed monster from Detroit. Doug McDermott (13 points) and Nikola Mirotic (12 points) also turned in nice performances off the bench. The story again was the lack of ball control from the Bulls, who turned the ball over 16 times.

Rumors are swirling that the Bulls are heavily shopping Taj Gibson and Tony Snell. Both have seen reduced playing time, with the latter getting a DNP- Coach's Decision. A move seems to be on its way in the coming weeks.

Bulls Get Beat In The Garden
New York, NY - The New York Knicks got proved too much for the Bulls tonight. A valiant effort came up short in the final minutes as Derrick Rose missed a key shot down the stretch, and the Bulls lost 112-107.

Carmelo Anthony, this week's player of the week, scored 27 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while leading the Knicks to victory. Robin Lopez scored 19 points and bullied Pau Gasol around all night. E'Twaun Moore played a great game off the bench. He has really impressed since being put into the rotation, putting in work for 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The Bulls have been beaten by the 2nd and 3rd teams in the Eastern Conference back to back. There hasn't been any evidence that this team belongs in the playoffs, let alone the NBA Finals.

Taj.jpg

Taj Gibson and Tony Snell Sent to Los Angeles
Chicago, IL - The Bulls have been sputtering all season and after weeks of trade rumors, the Bulls sent Tony Snell and Taj Gibson to the Clippers for Lance Stephenson and Branden Dawson.

The move isn't a big surprise as word had made it out of Chicago that they were shopping Gibson. Hoiberg's offense just doesn't fit Gibson's style of play, as he's a banger and Hoiberg is looking for bigs who can stretch the floor. Joakim Noah's ability to handle the ball makes him valuable at the top of the key finding cutters. Gibson isn't the passer that Noah is, and he will be forced to make a new home in LA.

Deandre Jordan has been injured for most of the season so Gibson gives the Clippers' front line more insurance. Snell will replace a tumultuous Lance Stephenson and give Chris Paul yet another sniper around the perimeter.

Stephenson gives the Bulls a tough, hard-nosed defender who can score the ball. It's exactly what the Bulls need. It also opens up a spot in the rotation for Bobby Portis. Hoiberg is on the record as saying that he was a big fan of Portis's game and that he felt he could make an immediate impact. The risk obviously is that Lance is a hot head and he hasn't been to a team where he hasn't been involved in trouble.

This isn't Tom Thibodeau. Can Fred Hoiberg handle a personality like Lance and finally point this ship in the right direction?

Bulls Victorious After Trade
Chicago, IL - Two days after the Bulls announced a trade that would bring the volatile Lance Stephenson to Chicago, they handed the Brooklyn Nets a 91-87 loss behind the play of Derrick Rose. Rose finished with 25 points and six assists on 12-14 shooting.

The burly shoulders of Brook Lopez led the Nets. He scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, but there wasn't much help from his supporting cast. The Bulls interior defense played a huge role in this victory. They collected 10 blocks as a team with Pau Gasol leading the way with four.

Another bright sign for the Bulls was the fact that rookie Bobby Portis played well in his first extended time of the season. He scored nine points and gathered five rebounds.

"We're going to miss Taj," Fred Hoiberg mentioned after the game. "He's a tremendous player and was one of the leaders on this team. He's been here his whole career, but we felt it was time to move on. I know a lot of the guys were upset to see him go, but they understand it's a business and we're hopeful for Bobby's development."

Gibson shared a number of emotional goodbyes, especially with long time teammates Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. The Bulls took a risk letting one of their hardest working players go, but Lance's ability and bad boy demeanor might just give the spark that this team needs.

Re: Chicago Bulls - Welcome to Hoiball

Lance .jpg

Press Conference: Lance Stephenson
Chicago, IL - Bulls' newest acquisition, Lance Stephenson, addresses the media after tonight's game beside Fred Hoiberg.

Reporter - Lance, you've bounced around a lot the last few years since leaving Indiana. What do you think the cause for this is?

Lance - I'm a pain in the ***. That's no secret. I'm a high energy, very passionate kinda guy. I haven't been able to find the right fit, but I've shown that I can produce at a high level when things are going smoothly. I hope Chicago can get the most out of me.

Reporter -Were you surprised about the trade?

Lance - No, not really. Doc and I didn't really get along. Listen, I'm a tough guy to get along with. I think the pre-madonnas in LA didn't think I belonged out there. I think there are some personalities in this building that are similar to mine. Jo obviously has a lot of fight. Bobby is a guy who likes to make noise. This team needs a facelift. They need to fight, and claw, and play on the edge of being dirty. I can do that. I'm excited.

Reporter - Coach, what do you think Lance brings to your team?

Fred - I think he's right. Lance is exactly right. That's what we need. We have been soft to this point this year, and that's unlike the Bulls teams of the last few years. That attitude needs to be brought back to Chicago. It starts with me. We had a team meeting after the trade was announced and it went very well. The team got the message and are excited about the, fresh start, I guess we'll call it. Lance is a guy who won't back down, who will get punched in the mouth and get right back up. Our team needs to find that across the board if we want to accomplish anything this year.

Reporter - What do you make of the issues that Lance has had with teams he's been on in the past? Are you worried that something similar might happen?

Fred - I'm not worried to tell you the truth. The Bulls are a class organization and there are leaders in that locker room that want to win. It's a family in there, and I think Lance is excited to get to a place where everyone is on the same page. Indiana and LA have their issues without Lance, he wasn't the only problem in those scenarios. I think he's eager to start over in a new city. The fans of Chicago are going to embrace his tenacity and fight. I think he'll be just fine. Thanks, guys.

******

Stephenson scored just five points in 15 minutes in his first night as a Bull. He is wearing #2 on his jersey and has made the joke (several times) that him and Rose are a "1-2 punch." I don't foresee Lance in the starting lineup this season, but he provides a scoring spark off the bench, a player who can create their own shot and get others involved. The Bulls have lacked that in their second unit thus far this season.

It wouldn't surprise me if Stephenson was finishing games this year. If Hoiberg wants to go small he can play Rose, Stephenson, Butler, McDermott/Dunleavey, and Mirotic. That lineup could be deadly in the open court and on the offensive end, and just might have enough rebounding at the guard position to make up for their lack of size.

The Bulls have three days off and then head to Oklahoma City to take on Kevin Durant and the Thunder.

Bulls Bring Holiday Cheer, Beat Thunder
Oklahoma City, OK - The Bulls played the role of Santa on Christmas Day and gave their fans a present in the form of a 111-106 win over the Thunder. This is by the far the best win of the season for these Bulls, who were led by their Captain - Joakim Noah.

Noah posted his first triple-double of the season with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. He also swatted away three shots, looking like the force from his Defensive Player of the Year campaign. Noah's play was accompanied by the dominance of his front court mate, Pau Gasol. Gasol scored a season high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

"This is a great win," Jo relayed after the game. "This team is capable of playing like this on a nightly basis. We finally showed the league that we can compete, and beat, the best teams in the league. I think we are one of the best teams in the league. Without a doubt."

The confidence of this team is clearly at a high after beating the number two team in the Western Conference.

Lance Stephenson scored a huge 15 points off the bench, including the game-clinching runner to put the Bulls up five with under 10 seconds.
