A New York Shakeup

What's up, this will be my new NBA 2k16 dynasty. I'm using Review's Ps4 roster, it's a good roster I'd recommend for PS4 users. Not sure which sliders I'm going to use I'll be trying some sets as I go before settling on one. This will be a 30 team control dynasty(with me controlling most of the moves) and the team I will be playing as is the Knicks. In my world the Knicks aren't so stuck on the triangle and as a result the team I've assembled is more of a fit for the modern NBA(and my play style) as I try to build around KP. Don't want to say too much more as that will spill the surprises to come. I will sim this current season and kick it off with this offseason. It's a huge offseason that shakes up the NBA big time. Stayed tuned for the 2015-2016 recap.

Storylines:
Starting in the East Lebron has a huge year, but his teammates struggle causing the Cavs to fall to a three seed. This opened up the top of the East for a big year by Lowry to lead the Raptors to the top seed. The rest of the East played out pretty close to what you’d expect. The Pacers and Hawks and Wizards all had bad years falling out of the playoffs opening up spots for new playoff teams. Maybe the biggest story was the 76ers improving all the way to 35 wins as they start to look like a viable NBA franchise. Melo and the Knicks had a disappointing year despite doubling their win total from last year.
In the west the Warriors have a historic year getting 67 wins behind MVP Curry, The Spurs Thunder, and Clippers followed with strong years. The middle of the west is where surprises happened. The Jazz continued their step forward from last year and went 48-34 claming the 6th seed. Behind a huge year by Lillard the Blazers recovered from LA’s leaving to get a 5 seed. Behind a big rookie year by Towns the Wolves shocked the world by going 46-36. Dwight and Harden drama lead the Rockets to struggle to 42-40 and a 8th seed. Memphis, New Orleans, and Dallas had big time disappointing year as they dropped out of the playoffs. The Lakers put themselves in prime position to win the Ben Simmons sweepstakes.

Playoff Recap:

The Cavs got stunned in 7 games in the first round by the Hornets ending a horrific year and fueling speculation about Lebron leaving again. The Raptors, Heat, and Bucks all won their series they were favored in easily. Behind the Greek Freek the Bucks stunned both the Raptors and the Heat in 7 games to make unbelievable run to the NBA Finals.
The Big four all had easy first round wins. The Warriors swept through the Clippers in the second round. KD and Russ went off and the Thunder shocked the Spurs by sweeping them in the second round. In a crazy 7 game series the Warriors barely survived the onslaught by KD and Russ and make it to the NBA finals.
In the finals Curry went crazy. In game one he set the tone scoring 57 points and dishing out 12 assists. He averaged 41 points per game and the Warriors scored 120 in all 4 games in a dominating sweep to win back to back titles. Curry became a legend as he got finals mvp to cap off his legendary season.

Re: A New York Shakeup

Massive trade Shakes up the NBA

This trade involved 5 teams and 14 players moving to new locations. It involved 4 all-star players, 4 players who were first rounders in recent draft, and several other starting NBA players. We'll provide the break down first and then get into it:

Cavs trade: Irving Love and Shumpert
Cavs get: Aaron Affalo Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul

Knicks trade: Carmelo Anthony Robin Lopez Jerian Grant and Aaron Affalo
Knicks get: Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, CJ Wilcox, and Mike Scott

Hawks trade: Jeff Teague
Hawks get: Robin Lopez and Iman Shumpert

Clippers trade: Chris Paul
Clippers get: Brandon Ingram, Jeff Teague, RJ Hunter, Jerian Grant

Celtics trade: Marcus Smart, Brandon Ingram, RJ Hunter
Celtics get: Kevin Love

With so many parts it is easier to break it down team by team. We will start with the simplest team: the Hawks. They had a down year last year and are ready to give Schroder the PG job. With limited options for free agents wiling to come they fill holes at the SG and C spots with solid players on reasonable contracts.
For the Celtics they have been connected to Love for a long time. They made steps forward last year, but they are still star hunting. They cashed a few of their chips in for Love without losing any of their core guys. Smart and Ingram will hurt, but they have Crowder and Bradley at those spots and options with young guys behind them. They finally get their guy and adding Love to their lineup should move them well up the East.
For the Clippers, this had to hurt. They have a really good team, but have never been able to get over OKC, Golden State, and the Spurs in the west. Chris Paul has been longing for a title and made it known to Clipper management that he was likely to leave next year to go get one. The Clippers decided that it was best to recoup some value, since it was unlikely they could move up the standings in the West. They get Ingram who could be a franchise guy for them at the three, Jeff Teague a very solid PG who will help keep them in the mix in the West, and two first round picks from last year in Grant and Hunter who will play big bench roles and have the upside to turn into more. The Clippers maximized their return, sent Paul where he wanted to go and now will try to build around the frontcourt of Ingram/Griffin/Jordan
For the Knicks it was time to move on from the Melo era. The team has been on a downturn and their plans to build around them were ruined by poor decisions. With KP in the fold it would be more ideal to build around younger guys anyway. Melo liked NY and wasn't set on waiving his NTC, but the chance to play with two of his best friends in Lebron and CP3, get traded with his good friend Affalo and the chance to win a title was too much to turn down. Kyrie Irving comes home to the local area and gives the Knicks the PG they have long needed. He gets out of Lebron's shadow and him and KP have the chance to take over New York. Marcus Smart gives them a good complement to Irving due to his defensive abilities and growing offense. This also opened up the money for the Knicks to pursue further upgrades in free agency. It wasn't Melo's fault, but his time in New York didn't work out, this gives both him and the team positive changes that should help them both.
Finally the Cavs. They had an awful year for them getting a 3 seed and losing to the Hornets in round one. Lebron had a great year and Irving was good, but the team around them let him down. He used this as his power play. He wanted to play with his friends in Melo and CP3 who he believes give him a great chance for a title. The Cavs were able to take advantage of the situations and worked hard to make it work for all parties. They get Melo and Paul and a good fit to be a 4th option in the starting lineup in Affalo. This was enough to make Lebron finally commit to returning to the Cavs on a long term deal. The Cavs have bet on Lebron and his wants. Will it be enough to finally best the Warriors? That remains to be seen, but a happy Lebron, and the new big three should give them a much better chance.
This move started off the free agency period with a bang and should have a major impact on the moves to come and the NBA season next year.

Offseason Recap/Season Review:

(Going through all 30 teams inspired by Trek’s format, his dynasties are great btw, read them if you haven’t)

Trade Recapswill have to go through the teams to find out signings)

Four team Deal:
Suns trade: Brandon Knight Alex Len
Suns get: Nerlens Noel Robert Covington Trey Burke

76ers trade: Noel Covington
76ers get: Darren Collison, Alec Burks Alex Len

Jazz trade: Collison Alec Burks Trey Burke
Jazz get: Knight Devin Harris

Mavs trade: Devin Harris
Mavs get: Tyson Chandler

Denver trades: Wilson Chandler Jusuf Nokic
Bulls trade: 2017 1st(top 5 protected) Cameron Bairstow Chrisitiano Felicio(waived)

Spurs trade: Kevin Martin(waived) 2017 1st(lottery protected)
Memphis trades: Brandon Wright

Offseason Team by Team BreakDown:

76ers
Roster:
PG: Darren Collison/Kris Dunn/TJ McConnell/Melo Trimble
SG: Alec Burks/Holis Thompson/Wayne Seldon JR
SF: Eric Gordon/Jerami Grant/
PF: Joel Embiid/Rashard Holmes/Carlos Boozer
C: Okafor/Alex Len

A huge rookie year by Okafor helped to get the 76ers up to 35 wins. The addition of Jerry Colangelo to the front office combined with the success made the 76ers decide to accelerate their rebuild. They dealt their 2017 1st(top 5 protected) to move from 6 to 12 to finally get their PG of the future in Dunn. They took advantage of their huge capspace and gave Eric Gordon a 1 year 15 million dollar deal with a player option. Gordon is looking to have a big year and cash in next year when the cap further increases. With Okafor’s huge year and Embiid finally ready to play Noel was expendable. They used him and Covington to acquire Collison(solid starter takes early pressure off Dunn) and they shured up their weak backcourt by adding Burks(a more dynamic scorer than Covington(who is locked into a very nice contract). They also got a disappointing Alex Len who still has upside. With veterans and shooters around Okafor, the 76ers rebuild might finally be starting to pay off. The key will be if Embiid can stay healthy and if him and Okafor can gel like Noel couldn’t. If things go right they could sneak into the playoffs

Bucks:
PG: Mike Conley/MCW/Tyler Ennis
SG: Khris Middleton/Ricky Vaughn/Caris Levert/Damion Lee
SF: Giannis/Dorell Wright/Damien Inglis
PF: Parker/John Henson/Johnny O’Bryant
C: Greg Monroe/Miles Plumlee

Coming off an NBA finals appearance the Bucks and Jason Kidd were an ideal location. They decided that despite their miracle run they needed to upgrade on MCW. Playing for a finals team, a PG like Kidd, combined with Memphis’ downyear and desire to move on all lead to Mike Conley stunning the world by joining the Bucks. He gets 2 years 40 mil with a player option for year three for 21.8 million. His presence creates a really good balanced starting five, moves MCW to the bench which helps that unit. They got Wright for his three and D off the bench for 1 year 2.65 mil. They added Levert(1st) and Lee(2nd) for some shooting, but last year’s first Vaughn will get a chance to prove themselves. Bucks should be in the top half of the East and with their experience from last year and the Greek Freek’s continued evolution could make them a threat to get back to the finals.

Chicago Bulls:
PG: Rose/Tyler Ulis/Aaron Brooks
SG: Jimmy Butler/Justin Holiday/Grayson Allen
SF: WIlson Chandler/Doug Mcdermott/Mike Dunleavy/Jake Layman
PF: Nikola Mirotic/Bobby Portis/JJ Hickson
C: Gibson/Jusuf Nurkic

The Bulls got a healthy year from Rose, but it was only enough to finish 5th in the East and lose to the Bucks in round 1. They added Ulis and Allen in the first round to provide insurance for Rose and Butler with an eye toward the future. They also finally got their SF in Wilson Chandler. They also added Nurkic who is a solid young center who was left without a spot due to Denver’s crazy draft. They lost Gasol, but I think this team could get better due to the depth and the young guys getting their chance to improve in the front court. The problem is the East is much better than last year, so they might finish worse despite being a better team.

Cleveland Cavaliers:
PG: Chris Paul/Matthew Dellavedova/Fred Vanvleet
SG: Aaron Affalo/JR Smith(out for first 4-6 weeks)/Rasual Butler
SF: Lebron/Mike Miller
PF: Melo/Channing Frye
C: Thompson/Andray Blatche/Sasha Kaun/Kendrick Perkins

The Cavs had a horrible year getting the 3rd seed, losing to the Hornets in the first round. Lebron made it clear it wasn’t going to work(see article on the big trade for more details). He got his buddies Melo and CP3 to join him as he inked a mega 4 year deal to stay with the Cavs. They did a pretty good job of getting a decent team around the new big three as they lured Blatche back from China, got Delly back on a 3 year deal for 18 mil, and JR on a 2 year 18 million dollar deal. They got Affalo who should thrive as the 5th man in this unit. Rasual Butler also provides wing depth. Lebron buddies Mike Miller and Perkins join the club for the ride and to keep the locker room stable. The Cavs turned a potential Lebron disaster into a better team. Now it is older with a lot of money tied in, but the pieces look to fit and the Cavs looked prime to reclaim the East.

Re: A New York Shakeup

More Team Offseason Recaps/Season Previews

Boston Celtics:
PG: Thomas/Rozier
SG: Bradley/Turner/james Young/Dejounte Murray
SF: Jae Crowder/Evan Turner/Waller Prince
PF: Love/Sullinger/Labissiere
C: Noah/Olynyk

The Celtics took their step forward going 42-40 under Stevens and finding their way into the playoffs. The Celtics wanted a star and were willing to put their big chip(Nets first) on the table. For the bro-fest to occur with the Cavs, Love needed to be sent somewhere, so the Celtics were a natural match. They Ingram(but love Crowder at his spot). Their backcourt could afford the loses of Smart and Hunter as they had a surplus. They used their draft picks to still put some very talented young guys on the roster. They got Noah on a 1 year 9 million deal to anchor their defense so Love can focus on scoring. They also got 2 wins in convincing Sullinger to take the QO in hopes of cashing in next year and getting Turner back on a 3 year deal for just over 8 mil per. Those two will both get big minutes as 6th men and provide great depth. This team looks like it fits together well and has youth and upside on the roster and still have assets to cash in if the need arises. It looks like Ainge is a winner again as Boston looks great for now and the future.

LA Clippers:
PG: Jeff Teague/Jerian Grant/Austin Rivers
SG: JJ Reddick/RJ Hunter/Wayne Ellington
SF: Brandon Ingram/Jeff Green/Braden Dawson
PF: Blake Griffin/Brice Johnson/Brandon Bass
C: Jordan/Jordan Hill

Chris Paul was approaching free agency and made it known that he wanted a title and didn’t think he could get through the west with the Clippers. They told him they would look around, but would need something big to move him. When Lebron made his powerplay to get his friends together things worked out great for the Clippers. They get a potential franchise guy in Ingram to build around with Blake and Jordan. They got a very good starting PG in Jeff Teague to help keep them relevant. They got two first rounders in Grant and Hunter who look to play big roles. The Clippers got some help for this year by taking advantage of Green’s down year and having him take a 1 year 9 million dollar deal with a player option and getting Jordan Hill and Brandon Bass for depth. They should still be a very good team in the West, but if Ingram develops the future could be much brighter for the Clippers.

Memphis Grizzlies:
PG: Jordan Clarkson/Shane Larkin
SG: Tony Allen/Tyler Johnson/Jordan Adams
SF:Shabazz Muhammad/James Johnson/PJ Hairston/Niang
PF:Zbo/Terrance Jones/J. Green
C: Gasol/Biyombo

After a down year and losing Conley in free agency it looked like Memphis was going to go into a slump in the west. They bounced back with a get younger attitude. They got Jordan Clarkson to replace Conley. They got solid young players looking to prove something in Johnson(2 years 12 mil), Terrance Jones(1 year 4 mil) Biyombo(2 years 14.5 mil), Larkin(2 years 9 mil), and a steal in James Johnson(1 year 2.9 mil). They got younger, deeper and got there guys on good deals. The key will be the health of ZBo and Gasol. If they can stay healthy and the young guys gel they could get back to where they were in the west with more upside, but there is a flameout chance here.

Atlanta Hawks:
PG: Schroder/Ramon Sessions/Norris Cole
SG: Shumpert/Hardaway JR/Lamar Patterson
SF: Bazemore/Korver/Thabo
PF: Millsap/Spilltier/Muscala
C: Robin Lopez/Jakob Poeltl/Walt Tavares

The Hawks struck out in free agency only able to get Bazemore back(3 for 27). After a really bad year they did get a nice pick in Poeltl and a first from Philly for moving down. It was clear that it was time for Schroder to start. They used him as a chip to fill 2 holes in getting Shumpert and Lopez to be starters. Korver should a sharp decline last year(big regression ratings wise). But can still be a shooter off the bench. They have a pretty decent core locked into solid deals, depending on how the East shakes out they could be a 8th seed or the worst case a 9th seed.

Miami Heat:
PG: Dragic/Tony Douglas
SG: Wade/Josh Richardson/OJ Mayo
SF: Winslow/Metta World Peace/ Richard Jefferson
PF: Bosh/Davis Lee/Mcroberts
C: Al Jefferson/ Emeka Okafor

The Heat lose Whiteside, but replaced with AL Jefferson eager to prove himself(1 year 14 mil with a PO). That ate most of their cap but were able to add solid veteran pieces on cheap deals to give them decent depth. The Heat got to the East finals, but the young Bucks were too much for them. With them getting older, and the rest of the East improving it doesn't look good, but they are a good team that should be in the playoffs and with Wade and Bosh they are still dangerous.

Charoltte Hornets:
PG: Kemba/Lin/Brain Roberts
SG:Batum/Beasley/Barbosa/Aaron Harrison
SF: MKG/Lamb
PF: Kamisnky/Teletovic/Hawes
C: Pachulia/Nene

After beating the Cavs, but losing in round 2. The Hornets were able to keep their core together. They got Batum to stay for 4 years and 67 million dollars. They got Lin for 2 years 16 mil and Lamb for 3 years 30 mil to spark the bench. Kaminsky takes over as the starting four man and they add Zaza for some defense and toughness. Mirza and Nene also sign forming a formitable bench big man combo. With another year together and some improvements from young guys I expect them to slide further up the East and build on their win over the Cavs.

Re: A New York Shakeup

More Team Offseason Recaps/Season Previews

Utah Jazz:
PG: Brandon Knight/Exum/Mack/Fender
SG: Hood/Devin Harris
SF: Gordan Hayward/Kelly Oubre/Joe Ingles
PF: Favors/Marvin Williams
C: Gobert/Ian Mahinmi/Withey/Pleiss

The Jazz started their offseason by trading Lyles to free up room in the front court in order to get Oubre and their supposed PG in Collison. Oubre will provide 3 and D backing up both forward spots. They got Mahinmi for 2 years 14 mil to back up Gobert. The Jazz then found a big chance to get a major player at PG. They traded Burks(they want Hood playing the 2 anyway) Collison and Burke(opens up minutes for Exum) in order to get a big time young PG in here in Knight. All of a sudden this Jazz team has a great core young starting five coming off a 48 win year with a big PG upgrade and good depth. The Jazz have quietly had a great rebuild and look like they could soar into the top half of the west.

Sacramento Kings:
PG: Rondo/Neto/Jose Calderon
SG: Lance Stephenson/Ben McLemore/Malcolm Brogdon
SF: Gay/Casspi/Butler
PF: Cousins/Amir Johnson/Luis Scola
C: Cauley Stein/Koufos

The Kings took a decent step forward in the West last year, but not enough to be a playoff team. They responded by giving Rondo a huge deal(4 years 85 mil) that they might very well regret. They made a savy trade getting Neto and the 25th pick(Brogdon) for a unhappy Collison. They made solid depth signings in Johnson and Scola. Calderon was bought in due to his reputation as a great locker room guy. They took a gamble on Stephenson for just 1 year 5 mil. They are hoping they can get him under control and have another piece to build around like Rondo. For a team like the Kings despite it being easy to make jokes it is a worth while risk, despite there solid look I still doubt they make the playoffs.

New York Knicks:
PG: Kyrie Irving/Mo Williams
SG: Marcus Smart/Garrett Temple/Sheldon Mccellan
SF: Evan Fournier/Lance Thomas/CJ Wilcox
PF: Porzingis/Mike Scott/Domantas Sabonis
C: Hassan Whiteside/Kyle O’Quinn

It was a disappointing year for the Knicks missing the playoffs again. Melo decided he wanted a title and when his best friend came calling in Lebron he decided to waive his NTC. The Knicks insisted on bringing Kyrie Irving home to New York. They finally had their PG they had been longing for years. Do to further facilitating the deal by also moving Lopez and Grant they were also able to get Marcus Smith to join Irving for a young dynamic backcourt. They also got Mike Scott in the deal who will back up KP and allow the new 4 out offense to work even with KP out of the game. With Lopez gone and the center open the Knick dove into their capspace and gave Whiteside a 4 year 90 million dollar contract. With him playing center next to KP the Knicks will have the best shot blocking in the league and the paint in New York will be tough to score in for the first time since the 90’s. With a hole at the three and in need of more scoring they were able to lure Fournier away from the Magic on a 4 year 48 million dollar contract the Magic elected not to match due to their backcourt logjam. All of a sudden the Knicks have a young core 5 with the oldest at 27 is Whiteside and they have all their future 1sts for the first time in forever. The turnaround is starting. They also bought back Thomas on a 2 year 10 million dollar deal to be a 3 and d guy off the bench. Mo Williams was bought in on a 1 year 5 million dollar deal to provide scoring and shot creation off the bench. Temple was bought in for depth. They traded two future seconds to get get into the second round to take 2 young guys to develop. With these new guys and KP looking ready to step into stardom the Knicks might go from joke to contender very quickly.

LA Lakers
PG: Russell/Will Bynum
SG: DeRozan/Lou Williams/Nick Young
SF: Ben Simmons/Hedo Turkoglu/Anthony Brown
PF: Pau Gasol/Julius Randle/Larry Nance JR
C: Al Horford/Damian Jones

With Kobe retiring the Lakers got a huge break in not only keeping their pick, but winning the lottery and getting Ben SImmons to be the heir apparent to the franchise. They used this to power a huge offseason. They lured DeRozan home to LA on a 4 year 108 million dollar contract. They got a new center in Al Horford for 3 years 60 million. They surprised everyone by bringing Pau Gasol back to LA on 1 year 15 million deal. Randle was disappointing last year, but now they hope he can play well getting big minutes off the bench. The Lakers had as good of an offseason than anyone could have dreamed off. They have a good mix of youth and veterans. DO the cap used on the big signings, the depth wasn’t able to be addressed as much. If this lineup can gel they could get back to the playoffs this year and if they add around it and Russell and Simmons develop they could be a contender much sooner than anyone could have dreamed.

Orlando Magic
PG: Elfrid Payton/Jamal Murray/CJ Watson/Napier
SG: Victor Oladipo/Mario Hezonja
SF: Loul Deng/John Salmons
PF: Aaron Gordon/Andrew Nicholson
C: Vucevic/Mozgov/Dedmon

The Magic went into the offseason with dreams of luring big free agents, but failed. They decided to hold onto their capspace and try again next year. They bought in Deng and Mozgov on 1 year deals to redeem their value and to join the rotation but were quiet other than that. Gordon took a big step forward last year and is ready to be the guy at the four. Things to watch are the young guys developing and first round pick Murray pushing Payton at the point. If they can move some young guys along, use others in a big trade and have a ton of cap next year, the Magic could become a threat, but they need to find someone willing to be the star until then their upside is limited.
