Welcome to another week of NBA on NBC. Two more stellar matchups in the NBA.

First off, the '93-'94 NBA champions, the Houston Rockets visit the Eastern Conference champions, the '00-'01 Philadelphia 76ers.

Recently named Players of the week, Iverson and Olajuwon headlined this great matchup. While Allen Iverson would get his, Hakeem Olajuwon was slow out of the gate. It wasn't until the second half that he would begin to knockdown baskets.

We'll fast forward to the fourth quarter.......the Rockets starting to heat up as they hit three consecutive 3-ptrs to take a 90-83 lead with 3:47 left. After the Rockets get a little sloppy with the ball, they manage to hold on to a 92-90 lead with 1:57 left in the game.

Off a timeout, Mario Elie bangs in a three to give the Rockets a five point lead. Back the other way, Iverson drives down the lane but Olajuwon is there to greet him and blocks Iverson's attempt, Houston pushes back on offense, layup and now their up 7 with 1:24 left.

But you couldn't count out these 76ers, not their heart, not this time.....Sixers come back to cut the lead to 5. Sixers start to toughen up on defense, off of a miss by Elie, Philadelphia cuts it to 3 thanks to Iverson.

40 seconds remain, Rockets have the ball, trying to run out the clock but they must put up a shot, it's a forced one......Rebound 76ers.....the pass to George Lynch.....Lynch takes it to the hole and somehow loses it........recovered by Mutombo, who picks it up......kicks it out to Tyrone Hill at the top of the 3-pt line......swing pass to Iverson...the shot and IT"S GOOD!......Tie game at 99 with 10.9 seconds to play...

One last possession for the Rockets.......they set up, Kenny Smith isolates, draws in the defense....the pass to Olajuwon....the jumper and the ball rims in and out and to OT the game goes.

Overtime was not as exciting......Sixers go ice cold, only scoring 5 points.

The real story of the game was how Mario Elie filled in for the injured Vernon Maxwell......Elie scored 30 pts on 12-19 shooting.....including 6-9 on 3-ptrs
...

We'll be back with the second game part of this week's doubleheader.....

Matchup Preview | November 9, 3000

'88-'89 Detroit Pistons

A matchup between great all-time teams and players. You had a Pistons team who would go on to win the NBA Finals in the 88-89 season and a 97-98 Jazz team that would play in the finals against the Bulls. Although they would go on to lose, they had possibly the best 1-2 punch ever. A pick and roll that was ran with nothing but finesse and smoothness.

Karl Malone came into this game with an ankle sprain but he was a go. In what would be a boring first quarter of basketball, the Pistons held a 4 point lead and Utah's pick-and-roll was far from rolling...and with the help of Detroit and their turnovers, it made for a much closer game at the half.

Onto to the third quarter, the Pistons took a 7-point lead only for the Jazz to rip off an 18-6 run of their own. Utah started to hit the offensive glass hard with their second unit. By the end of the third, the Jazz were really getting in the Piston's face with swarming defense.

The game would go on through the fourth quarter, back and forth lead changes. The Jazz found someone to pick on and that was Dennis Rodman, between Antoine Carr and Karl Malone, the Jazz were pounding the inside paint.

The Pistons were up 1 point with about 3 minutes left and the Jazz on a fastbreak, Malone with the outlet to Hornacek who drives to the paint between Dumars and Laimbeer and Laimbeer takes out Hornacek. The refs call a Flagrant 1 on Bill Laimbeer. Hornacek would miss the first free throw, make the second to tie the game up at 87 with 2:58 left to play.

With a minute left in the fourth, Laimbeer switches to defend Malone. Malone receive the pass from Shanon Anderson down low, Pistons double team Malone, then the kickout to Stockton at the top of three point line, Stockton shoots and scores, 94-91 Jazz lead.

After Isiah Thomas misses a jumper on the very next possession, the Jazz come back down the court and run the same exact play, with the same exact result. Stockton puts the Jazz up by six points with 38 seconds left to play, as Utah beats Detroit at The Palace in Auburn Hills.

Hope you have enjoyed this double header this week on NBA on NBC. We'll be back for the weekly wrap-up on NBA Inside Stuff.

Kevin McHale was huge down the stretch

The Oklahoma City Thunder visited the Boston Garden and the '85-86' Boston Celtics....Kevin Durant vs Larry Bird was the matchup to watch as they both led their team in scoring.

The game should be a good one.......

In the first half it was clear that the big men were going to dominate. Kevin Durant was hot in the first and second quarters. Coming off screens and pulling up and nailing his jump shots. All this while Larry Bird is in his face.

When Durant sat, Perry Jones came in and was productive off the bench.

Boston would finally start hitting shots in the second quarter. Kevin McHale was the Celtic's leading score at the half with 15 points. Larry Bird and Dennis Johnson were off to a slow start for Boston.

We go the fourth quarter. Kevin Durant still firing but misses 7 straight shots including four three pointers. Durant finally makes a three with two and a half minutes left in the game to cut the Celtics lead to five points.

Dennis Johnson had himself a nice fourth quarter as opposed to Russell Westbrook. Westbrook had been locked down by Johnson for the most part of the game.

In the end, the Thunder kept cutting at the lead but Kevin McHale and Dennis Johnson wouldn't let the Thunder comeback and take the lead on them.

Re: One-Time Fantasy League (2K15)

Our second game of this NBA on NBC doubleheader featured the '90-'91 Showtime LA Lakers against the eventual NBA Champs, the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors were off to a slow start in the first quarter but were sparked by a strong close to the second quarter thanks to Steph Curry and Harrison Barnes.

Golden State never lost the lead again and won this one pretty easily. Although Magic Johnson dropped 28 points, he was far from hot, finishing 11-32 from the field. Perhaps not rebounding on the defensive end hurt the Lakers too.
