Canada's New Team-A Vancouver Ravens Story

Young 24 year old Robert O., the son of billionaires Larry and Vickie O., now fresh out of college with a business degree has long dreamed of owning his own professional sports team. Having grown up a lifelong NBA fan Robert contacted NBA Commissioner Adam Silver about the possibility of becoming an NBA owner and creating an brand new NBA expansion team. After much discussion between Robert, Commissioner Silver, and others involved in this decision it was decided that Robert O. would become the first ever owner of Canada's newest professional sports team and second current NBA team, the Vancouver Ravens. Commissioner Silver would go on to announce the Vancouver Ravens founding and that an expansion draft would be held in the 2016 offseason so the Ravens could acquire players for their team. Commissioner Silver announced that each current NBA team would be able to protect eight player currently on their roster and the rest would up available for the Vancouver Ravens to draft.

Re: Canada's New Team-A Vancouver Ravens Story

The 2016 offseason was quickly coming to an end following the 2016 NBA free agency period and rookie draft and the time finally came for the expansion draft.

They were several high profile veteran players available in the expansion draft. Players such as SG Manu Ginobili, SG Tony Allen, SF Paul Pierce, C Andrew Bogut, and C Chris Andersen. However, the Ravens were looking to first draft a young player in the first round who could potentially be groomed into a franchise player in which to build the team around.

First Round
With their first round pick the Vancouver Ravens drafted Denver Nuggets' C Nikola Jokic, who is only 21 years old, is rated 77 overall, and has 2yrs + 1 remaining on his contract.

In rounds two through fourth the Ravens now turned to draft veteran starters either just entering their prime years or already in their prime years to try and get this team to win some games right away in season one.

Second Round
With their second round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Indiana Pacers' SF C.J. Miles, who is 29 years old, is rated 76 overall, and has 1yr + 1 remaining on his contract.

Third Round
With their third round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Sacramento Kings' PG Ty Lawson, who is 28 years old, is rated 75 overall, and has 1yr remaining on his contract.

Fourth Round
With their fourth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Chicago Bulls' PF Taj Gibson, who is 31 years old, is rated 76 overall, and has 1yr remaining on his contract.

In the fifth round the Vancouver Ravens decided to again draft a younger starting caliber player to potentially build around as their did with C Nikola Jokic in the first round.

Firth Round
With their firth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Toronto Raptors' SG Norman Powell, who is 23 years old, is rated 75 overall, and has 1yr +1 remaining on his contract.

In the remaining rounds, sixth through thirteenth, the Vancouver Ravens' strategy was to draft younger bench players and backups.

Sixth Round
With their sixth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Detroit Pistons' SG Darrun Hilliard, who is 23 years old, is rated 72 overall, and has 1yr +1 remaining on his contract.

Seventh Round
With their seventh round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Charlotte Hornets' C Spencer Hawes, who is 28 years old, is rated 75 overall, and has 1yr + 1 remaining on his contract.

Eight Round
With their eight round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Utah Jazz's PF Trey Lyles, who is 20 years old, is rated 74 overall, and has 1yr + 2 remaining on his contract.

In the Ninth and Tenth rounds the Vancouver Ravens broke from their strategy.

Ninth Round
With their ninth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft L.A. Lakers' SF Nick Young, who is 31 years old, is rated 75 overall, and has 1yr + 1 remaining on his contract.

Tenth Round
With their tenth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Philadelphia 76ers' PG Sergio Rodriguez, who is 30 years old, is rated 74 overall, and has 1yr remaining on his contract.

In the final three rounds of the expansion draft, rounds eleven through thirteen, the Vancouver Ravens decided to draft young high upside players, meaning players who are like 19-21 years old and need to be groomed somewhat before being fully ready to contribute to the team.

Eleventh Round
With their eleventh round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Houston Rockets' C Chinanu Onuaku, who is 19 years old, is rated 71 overall, and has 2yrs + 1 remaining on his contract.

Twelfth Round
With their twelfth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Phoenix Suns' PG Tlyer Ulis, who is 20 years old, is rated 71 overall, and has 1yr + 2 remaining on his contract.

Thirteenth Round
With their thirteenth round pick the Vancouver Ravens draft Memphis Grizzles' PF Deyonta Davis, who is 19 years old, is rated 70 overall, and has 2yrs + 1 remaining on his contract.

The 2016 NBA Expansion Draft had now officially came to an end.

Re: Canada's New Team-A Vancouver Ravens Story

With the expansion draft now officially over young Ravens' owner, Robert O., decided to now turn his attention to putting together a world class coaching and front office staff. After multiple interviews for each position Robert finally made his decision at each position and hired the following.

CFO:Eric Hamilton, 4yr/$2.00M contract, Business B-, Potential C

Assistant GM:Kevin Hamilton, 4yr/$1.40M contract, Contracts B, Trading C+, Potential C+

Head Coach:David Blatt, 2yr/$7.00M contract, Offense B, Defense B, Potential A

Assistant Coach:Jackson Thomas, 2yr/$1.50M contract, Offense C, Defense B-, Potential A-

Head Scout:Benny Thorpe, 2yr/$400k contract, Scouting B, Potential B+

Trainer:Justin Powell, 4yr/$800k contract, Training B, Potential B-

The Ravens managed to acquire a big team head coach in David Blatt who hopefully can turn this ragtag bunch of players into a team and also groom the youngsters into true NBA caliber players.
