Re: #TheStormIsComing | A Nashville Expansion Story | NBA 2K17

Free Agency Recap: Part 1

We were finally going to be quiet during Free Agency as I was only looking to make these 2 moves:

1. Re-Sign Patrick Beverley
2. Find a solid backup Small Forward since we traded Ben McLemore

So, we weren't signing a whole team in Free Agency like in 2016 and we weren't looking to acquire a superstar like we were in 2017.

However, other teams around the league were looking to sign nearly a whole team and others were trying to acquire superstars.

On July 24th, the first day Free Agents could officially sign contracts, there were 2 major signings.

First, James Harden re-signed with Houston on a 5 year, $156.98M deal.

Then, we were in for a shock.

DeMarcus Cousins signed a 4 year, $122.99M deal with the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs front court now consists of Cousins at Center and Willie Cauley-Stein at Power Forward. I'm never going to understand this trade, but during the season, the Spurs traded Danny Green and a 2019 1st Round pick to Sacramento in exchange for Willie Cauley-Stein.

Free Agency Day 2

Day 2 of Free Agency saw some other star players sign with new teams.

First of all, LaMarcus Aldridge must have seen the writing on the wall with the Spurs new front court players because he decided to sign a 3 year, $97.18M deal with the Vancouver Ravens. The Ravens are now just a solid SF away from a playoff caliber team.

Next DeAndre Jordan decided the to switch coasts because he is headed to the Brooklyn Nets on a 4 year, $140.91M deal.

The Los Angeles Lakers solidified themselves as one of the top teams in the West when they signed Brook Lopez to a 3 year, $41.28M deal. LA's starting 5 is now Eric Bledsoe (84 ovr), DeAngelo Russell (85 ovr), Brandon Ingram (84 ovr), Julius Randle (80 ovr), Brook Lopez (80 ovr).

With the acquisitions of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter was not needed in OKC anymore. So, the Phoenix Suns and Kanter agreed to a 3 year deal worth $80.09M.

Also signing today were 4 high profile players who decided to re-sign with their teams. Those 4 players were:

Isaiah Thomas, Celtics: 91 ovr: 4 years, $122.99M deal
Rodney Hood, Jazz: 84 ovr: 5 years, $130.82M deal
Julius Randle, Lakers: 80 ovr: 4 years, $102.49M deal
Dante Exum, Jazz: 80 ovr: 4 years, $97.43M deal

Re: #TheStormIsComing | A Nashville Expansion Story | NBA 2K17

Free Agency Recap: Part 2

We got good news to start off Day 3 of Free Agency.

We signed SF Terrence Ross as he agreed to a 4 year, $8.27M deal. Ross was on our team in the 2016-17 season, but we traded him to Chicago for Bobby Portis. We played against Ross and the Bulls in the 1st Round of the playoffs and Ross played pretty well as he averaged 11 points per game. For whatever reason, Chicago didn't pursue him in Free Agency and we signed him for a bit less than what he was originally asking.

There were some huge signings elsewhere around the NBA on the 3rd day of Free Agency.

Paul George agreed to a 4 year, $122.99M deal with the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs completely overhauled their roster. With the huge signings of Cousins and Paul George, they're easily the top team in the West. Just so you can see how much they overhauled their roster, here is a comparison of their roster from last year vs. the roster that they'll have for next season:

San Antonio Spurs Depth Chart - 2017-18

PFWillie Cauley-Stein (79)Jonas Jerebko (74)Thomas Robinson (73)
CDeMarcus Cousins (94)Dewayne Dedmon (75)

Isaiah Thomas agreed to re-sign with Boston on a 4 year, $122.9M deal.

Carmelo Anthony agreed to a 3 year, $103.30M deal with the Charlotte Hornets. The Hornets were the only team offering him near the amount that he was requesting.

Avery Bradley agreed to a 3 year, $89.19M deal with the Sacramento Kings. When the Celtics traded for Jimmy Butler, that obviously meant that Bradley wasn't returning.

Malcolm Brogdon agreed to a 4 year, $86.39M deal with the Miami Heat. The Heat are looking to rebuild after trading Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside during the draft. So, getting a good, young SG like Brogdon will help with their rebuilding process.

Free Agency Day 4

We got more good news to start off the 4th day of Free Agency.

Patrick Beverley let us know that he agreed to re-sign with us. His contract was a 3 year deal worth $7.16M. With Beverley re-signed, we were officially done in Free Agency despite the fact that we had almost $21M in salary cap space.

And there were even more big signings around the NBA today.

Joel Embiid announced that he was re-signing with the Toronto Raptors on a 4 year, $102.49M deal.

Former Nashville SG Josh Richardson agreed to a 3 year, $74.20M deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. Also signing with the 76ers was former Bulls PF Nikola Mirotic on a 4 year, $27.69M deal. The 76ers are now even bigger contenders in the East as their starting 5 is: Frank Ntilikina/Josh Richardson/Jaylen Brown/Nikola Mirotic/Jahlil Okafor with Danilo Gallinari coming off the bench as their 6th man.

Former Nashville C Clint Capela agreed to a 3 year, $56.83M deal with the Dallas Mavericks.

Dennis Schroder agreed to a 3 year, $59.70M deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Kelly Olynyk agreed to a 3 year, $22.84M deal with the Golden State Warriors.

Mason Plumlee agreed to a 4 year, $44.27M deal with the Indiana Pacers.

Otto Porter agreed to a 4 year, $49.79M deal with the Chicago Bulls.

Elfrid Payton agreed to a 2 year, $14.51M deal with the New York Knicks and Marcus Smart agreed to a 4 year, $102.49M deal with the New York Knicks. Smart will play SG for the Knicks.

Aaron Gordon re-signed with Orlando on a 4 year, $102.49M deal.

Thaddeus Young re-signed with Brooklyn on a 3 year, $52.13M deal.

Gary Harris re-signed with Denver on a 4 year, $84.01M deal.

Zach LaVine re-signed with Minnesota on a 5 year, $82.66M deal.

Re: #TheStormIsComing | A Nashville Expansion Story | NBA 2K17

Free Agency Recap: Part 3

Most of the big names had already signed deals. However, there were still a couple big signings that took place up until the final day of Free Agency.

First off, on the 5th day of Free Agency, Dwayne Wade signed a 2 year, $13.00M deal with the Brooklyn Nets. And all of a sudden, it looks like the Nets may finally have themselves a playoff team since this is their starting 5: Kyle Lowry (85 ovr)/Dwayne Wade (82 ovr)/Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (78 ovr)/Thaddeus Young (80 ovr)/DeAndre Jordan (86 ovr)

T.J. Warren agreed to a 4 year, $72.14M deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Suns didn't match his offer due to the fact that they selected Ben Simmons with the #1 pick in 2016.

Robert Covington (77 ovr) agreed to a 3 year, $13.74M deal with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors will now be serious contenders in the West. Last season they finished as the #3 seed, but were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs. They still have their big 3 of Curry/Thompson/Green but last season the Warriors had Mike Dunleavy starting at SF. Covington has a solid 3 point shot and then they added Kelly Olynyk as their starting Center. So every one of their starters are good 3 point shooters... Should be fun trying to stop that offense...

Former Nashville PG/SG Jordan Clarkson agreed to a 2 year, $24.34M deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jusuf Nurkic agreed to a 2 year, $26.28M deal with the Sacramento Kings.

Former Nashville SF Evan Fournier agreed to a 3 year, $55.98M deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Will Barton (77 ovr) agreed to a 2 year, $13.78M deal with the Charlotte Hornets.

Kyle Anderson (78 ovr) agreed to a 2 year, $13.37M deal and Lance Stephenson (77 ovr) agreed to a $14.54M deal with the Vancouver Ravens. The Ravens may have a playoff team now as they head into their 3rd season. Next season their starting 5 will be: Lonzo Ball (80 ovr)/Jamal Murray (82 ovr)/Kyle Anderson (78 ovr)/LaMarcus Aldridge (86 ovr)/DeAndre Ayton (78 ovr)

And that was it for the big Free Agency signings.

I think we can all agree that the NBA got a helluva lot more interesting this off-season.
