Re: The Alternate NBA

Recapping Year Two:

Everything proved a little more even this year as the teams balanced their rosters based on their previous campaigns. Out West the 17-12 KC Kings and Chicago Mustangs led the league, whilst for the first time a pair of losing records would advance to the playoffs as the 14-15 Toronto Dragons and Oakland Vipers rode their luck.

Once again the East would see success for Pittsburgh as they recorded back to back 20 win seasons, topping the Central at 20-9. Cleveland matched that as they clinched the Southeast again, whilst defending Champs' Philadelphia came 4th in the Central edging back into the post-season with a 17-12 record.

St. Louis Flight would find themselves at the bottom of the ladder going 8-21 in a miserable effort, whilst the Boston Irish would see the biggest downturn in fortune, going from last years Atlantic crown (17-12) to the bottom of the division winning just 10 games.

Division Winners
Atlantic - Montreal Maples (16-13)
Central- Pittsburgh Railers (20-9)
Southeast - Cleveland Whips (20-9)
Northwest - Chicago Mustangs (17-12)
Pacific - Las Vegas Gamblers (16-13)
Southwest - Kansas City Kings (17-12)

Buffalo's Jud Padgett came through to win this years MVP award as he helped the Blues make the playoffs, putting up 15.9PPG and 13.1APG.

Undrafted Center Byron Lyons surprised the league as he claimed Rookie of the Year honors wearing a Louisville Racers jersey, with the other awards going to Jackie House (PIT) 6th Man, Francis Hines (CHA) Defensive Player and Donovan Shephard (BNX) Most Improved.

Marc Brady of the Royals would shoot his way to the scoring title hitting 22.1PPG, the first player to break the 20PPG plateau. Kelvin Carson of Montreal continued his impressive showing planting 14.0APG, whilst David Cowen who swapped the colder yet Championship climb of Philadelphia, for a sunnier climate in Anaheim, would again be crowned King of the Boards with 11.9RPG.

Honors
MVP - Jud Padgett (Buffalo Blues)
Rookie - Byron Lyons (Louisville Racers)
6th Man - Jackie House (Pittsburgh Railers)
Defensive - Francis Hines (Chicago Americans)
Most Improved - Donovan Shephard (Bronx Bulls)
Scoring Title - Marc Brady (Cincinnati Royals)
All NBA - Jud Padgett (BUF) / Marc Brady (CIN) / Everett Rhodes (ANA) / William Adkins (JAX) / David Cowen (ANA)

Playoffs

Almost a repeat as Philadelphia look to cement themselves in as the 'Dynasty' of the league. They again upset the odds beating the Motors once more, this time in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Chicago Mustangs would be this years West representatives as they lived up to their #1 seeding. A memorable win over city rival 'Americans lit the touch paper for the Mustangs, before a Finals win over the KC Kings who almost made it back to the show and a repeat of last years Championship.

The Final itself almost saw Philadelphia go back to back, but a miracle 4th quarter from the Mustangs in which they outscored the Keystones 41-27 would seal a 118-111 win and the first title in franchise history for the Chicago outfit.

An interesting sideline to this years Championship matchup would be the clash of 2 brothers, the Broekoff brothers to be exact as the elder Carlton would come unstuck to his younger sibling Frank.

NBA Final
Chicago Mustangs 118 - 111 Philadelphia Keystones

Finals MVP
Preston Page (CHI) 24.0PPG / 13.0APG

Draft Top #5
1 - Jesse Temple (SG) Seattle Spirit 80OVR
2 - Tim Brogdon (PF) Boston Irish 74OVR
3 - Trace Falls (PF) St. Louis Flight 71OVR
4 - Corie Hill (SG) Dallas Drillers 73OVR
5 - Wendell Miller (PF) San Francisco Rush 69OVR

Re: The Alternate NBA

Recapping Year Three:

New year, new success stories as 3 of the leagues dwellars became shining lights, as Oakland, Denver and Jacksonville would combine for over 60 wins en route to clinching their first division titles.

Familiar faces would join them atop the tree as Detroit would collect 21 wins, whilst reigning Champs' Chicago Mustangs would keep their hopes of a repeat alive with a 17-12 season.

Philadelphia and the KC Kings also continued their playoff appearance streak, but with just 6 wins its the Boston Irish who face a question mark over their future in the league as a losing city.

Division Winners
Atlantic - Buffalo Blues (17-12)
Central- Detroit Motors (21-8)
Southeast - Jacksonville Juice (20-9)
Northwest - Denver Rockies (21-8)
Pacific - Oakland Vipers (21-8)
Southwest - Kansas City Kings (17-12)

Former Royal and now Blue 'Marc Brady would convert his scoring crown into the League MVP as he celebrated his first year in Buffalo by scoring 19.7PPG and racking up 10.1APG.

#1 pick Jesse Temple lived up to his billing by claiming the Rookie of the Year award. He would be a sole shining light as the Spirit would steal into the playoffs and is one of the leagues biggest attractions already.

The Diablos would rock this years honor boards as again David Cowen continued his dominance of the court and Defensive Player award with a 2nd in 3 years. Whilst the Anaheim franchise would have 3 players in the 1st Team All-NBA lineup, and recent signing Garry Bush claim his 2nd scoring title in 3 years.

Honors
MVP - Marc Brady (Buffalo Blues)
Rookie - Jesse Temple (Seattle Spirit)
6th Man - Luke Pope (Pittsburgh Railers)
Defensive - David Cowen (Anaheim Diablos)
Most Improved - Shawn Irving (Washington Generals)
Scoring Title - Garry Bush (Anaheim Diablos)
All NBA - Michael B. Garnett (LOU) / Marc Brady (BUF) / Everett Rhodes (ANA) / Garry Bush (ANA) / David Cowen (ANA)

Playoffs

Lets start from the beginning, Philadelphia were one and done this year slumping to Pittsburgh in a Central Division matchup. The other storylines coming from the East include another Conference Finals loss for the Motors as they continue to fail on prime time. Whilst the Juice would write all the headlines as they squeezed their way to the Finals for the first time.

This year the West appeared to be stacked; the defending Champs' Chicago Mustangs, the star studded Anaheim Diablos, the perennial contenders KC Kings and the #1 seed and upstart Denver Rockies.

Well none of those made it, KC lost in the 1st round, the Mustangs fell to the Diablos in the Semi Finals, before the Diablos themselves lost in the do or die Conference Finals to Las Vegas. So the Gamblers could take their deck and turn the cards one more time.

Sadly for them they would bust out as Jacksonville had the 'Juice' to complete the job and clinch their first Championship and put the East back on top of the game.

NBA Final
Jacksonville Juice 97 - 87 Las Vegas Gamblers

Finals MVP
Vin Eaton (Jacksonville Juice)

Draft Top #5
1 - Cody Cole (PG) Cincinnati Royals 81OVR
2 - Wallace Strawberry (PG) St. Louis Flight 75OVR
3 - Alonzo Bardo (C) Louisville Racers 77OVR
4 - Lucas Gardner (PF) Boston Irish 73OVR
5 - Hugh Weber (C) Indianapolis Freedom 74OVR

Re: The Alternate NBA

Recapping Year Four:

Swishing into the 4th year of the league and it was a familiar story in the Central Division as the Motors put up 20+ wins and clinched their #1 seed for what they hope will be a run to the Finals. Joining them would be current Champs' Jacksonville, regular contenders Cleveland as well as a rare showing for the Bronx Bulls as they collected 20-9 record en route to winning the Atlantic Division.

The big story this year however would be the dominance of the Las Vegas Gamblers, who after falling short in the Finals last year, came back stronger to collect a 26 win season and blow away the competition. The rest of the West paled in comparison, however Anaheim (17-12) would ensure they stayed in the mix as other perennial contenders such as the Mustangs and KC Kings fell away with losing records.

Division Winners
Atlantic - Bronx Bulls (20-9)
Central- Detroit Motors (21-8)
Southeast - Cleveland Whips (19-10)
Northwest - Denver Rockies (19-10)
Pacific - Las Vegas Gamblers (26-3)
Southwest - Austin Surge (17-12)

Unsurprisingly it would be a Gambler who won the MVP this year as Boruch Lawson would claim the prize as he led his team to 26 wins on the back of a 19.7PPG showing. This would in turn earn him a league high 5yr/$148M contract in the coming off-season.

League scouting again proved to be on point this year as for the 2nd time in a row the #1 pick would go on to claim the Rookie of the Year award. This year the 10-win Royals would celebrate briefly for Cody Cole as he averaged 11.7PPG and 9.1APG in his debut season.

Honors
MVP - Boruch Lawson (Las Vegas Gamblers)
Rookie - Cody Cole (Cincinnati Royals)
6th Man - Barry Jones Jr (Buffalo Blues)
Defensive - Jack Guerrero (Toronto Dragons)
Most Improved - Luke Gordon (Buffalo Blues)
Scoring Title - George Brand (Indianapolis Freedom)
All NBA - Boruch Lawson (LV) / Sammy Johnson (DEN) / Everett Rhodes (ANA) / Bruce Wilks (CLE) / Tony Baykan (NY)

It was the Gamblers to lose according to all the experts and rightly so, as a 26 win season is unlikely to be topped for a long time. However if one team should understand about upsetting the odds, then it will be those from Las Vegas. Sadly they would come unstuck by nemesis Anaheim as the stacked Diablos fired themselves to the Conference Finals as they looked to right the wrongs from last year.

Meeting them in the Conference matchup would be division rival Oakland Vipers. Both teams had gone 17-12 in the regular season and it would be the Diablos who finally got over their own hump to reach the Finals after missing out last time round.

The East proved to be predictable for the Detroit Motors. #1 seed and 1 and done once more as the playoff hoodoo remains large in Motor City. Their conqueror would be the Indianapolis Freedom, a team that went 14-15 during the regular season and now finding themselves in the Conference Finals.

Meeting them there would be the fancied reigning Champion Jacksonville Juice, as although they put up just 16 wins in the season, they made it count when it mattered. Unfortunately their hopes of a repeat ended there as the Freedom carried on their fairytale run to their first Finals appearance.

It didnt stop their either for Indianapolis, as a 67-53 2nd half run would overturn the Diablos advantage and the Freedom would become the leagues first losing record Champion.

Re: The Alternate NBA

Recapping Year Five:

A funny year in which a losing record was enough to win the Atlantic Division and a 12-17 finish would see 2 teams make the playoffs (Maples & Motors). However outside of that it was pretty much business as usual with the Juice winning the Southeast ahead of reigning Champions 'Freedom.

The Gamblers would top their division once more, but this year the Denver Rockies held the leagues best record winning 23, one more than Toronto.

At the other end of the scale the Rush finished up with one of the worst records in league history, winning just 6 times. Whilst Boston continued to struggle with 8, a tally matched by Cincinnati as the Royals continue to fluff their lines albeit with back to back #1 picks lining up for them.

Division Winners
Atlantic - Buffalo Blues (14-15)
Central- Philadelphia Keystones (18-11)
Southeast - Jacksonville Juice (23-6)
Northwest - Denver Rockies (23-6)
Pacific - Las Vegas Gamblers (20-9)
Southwest - Austin Surge (20-9)

Rod Ingram of the Surge would win his first MVP award as he helped the Texas based team win their 2nd straight division title. Seattle's Tim Richardson would claim Rookie of the Year honors, whilst Francis Hines of the Mustangs continues to belie his teams struggles by being named Defensive Player of the Year.

Kelvin Carson continued his reputation as the dish man as he topped the league with 12.8APG and once again claimed a spot in the All NBA 1st team.

Honors
MVP - Rod Ingram (Austin Surge)
Rookie - Tim Richardson (Seattle Spirit)
6th Man - 'Big' Dell Bowman (Bronx Bulls)
Defensive - Francis Hines (Chicago Mustangs)
Most Improved - Ronald Blackwell (Detroit Motors)
Scoring Title - Thomas Tate (Oakland Vipers)
All NBA - Rod Ingram (AUS) / Kelvin Carson (MON) / Everett Rhodes (ANA) / Carlton Barkley (CIN) / Earl Rice (KC)

Playoffs

The Juice continued their run as one of best franchises in the league as they once again reached the Finals, as for the 1st time in league history the #1 seed from both Conferences would live up to their status and reach the showdown.

Indianapolis failed spectacularly in their attempt to retain the trophy, whilst Philadelphia returned to the form that saw them reach back to back Finals by pushing Jacksonville all the way in the Conference Finals before falling short.

Out West it would be Denver that made a charge, toppling the Diablos (who themselves had laid to rest the Gamblers chances) before beating #2 seed Toronto in the Conference matchup.

The Final itself swung end to end before the Rockies would claim their 1st title 110-103 as the Juice ran out of 'it' down the stretch.

NBA Final
Denver Rockies 110 - 103 Jacksonville Juice

Finals MVP
Rodney Franklin (Denver Rockies)

Draft Top #5
1 - Matheiu Barrett (C) San Francisco Rush
2 - Jonnie Sutton (PF) Boston Irish
3 - Dante Macy (SF) Kansas City Kings
4 - Ronnie Cohen (PG) Cincinnati Royals
5 - Donnell Buchanan (PG) Washington Generals

I didn't even realize the Flight were a team here, I'm happy to see them despite their struggles.

I like that the Juice is going strong, they make a Jaguars fan have hope (maybe, lol).

Re: The Alternate NBA

Recapping Year Six:

Denver made their intentions to repeat clear once more as they topped the Northwest, as the league plateaued this year with a gaggle of teams involved in the playoff race until the final week.

A particular highlight would come in Louisville as the Racers not only collected their first ever winning record (17-12) but also made the playoffs for the first time.

The East would see the Bronx Bulls get back to winning ways nabbing 23, whilst the Motors also came back from a disappointing 12-17 season to win the Central with 19 wins.

Surprisingly the Juice collapsed this year as their nearly but not quite effort last time round took its toll, as they held up the Southeast Division that would be won by Miami for the first time.

Division Winners
Atlantic - Bronx Bulls (23-6)
Central- Detroit Motors (19-10)
Southeast - Miami Fusion (17-12)
Northwest - Denver Rockies (17-12)
Pacific - Oakland Vipers (17-12)
Southwest - Austin Surge (17-12)

A new set of award winners this year was headlined by the Bulls Phil Yates as he was rewarded for averaging a 'double-double' 13.6PPG / 11.0APG as he led the Bronx outfit to a 23 win campaign.

Phil Yates would also make the All-NBA team, as David Cowen came back to form for Anaheim as he topped the rebound charts with 12.1RPG.

Honors
MVP - Phil Yates (Bronx Bulls)
Rookie - Mathieu Barrett (San Francisco Rush)
6th Man - Jared Dunn (Cleveland Whips)
Defensive - Paul Horton (Miami Fusion)
Most Improved - Gabriel Long (Los Angeles Express)
Scoring Title - Pat Cross (Kansas City Kings
All NBA - Phil Yates (BNX) / Michael B. Garnett (BNX) / Boruch Lawson (LV) / Spencer Mason (CHA) / Carlton Barkley (CIN)

Playoffs

Denver's hopes of becoming the first team to repeat as Champions fell at the final hurdle as they lost out to Miami in a dramatic finish to an exciting post season.

Denver entered as the #1 in the West beating Seattle and Oakland, before knocking off rival Las Vegas in the Conference Finals in OT. For those interested, the Racers playoff debut ended as quick as it came round in a 20pt blowout.

There was no surprise in the East when Detroit slipped out in the opening round, however the eventual Conference Final matchup between Miami and Baltimore did raise a few eyebrows. The Fusion would come out on top and in the resulting NBA Finals, would go on to deny Denver a 2nd straight crown and claim their own first Championship to the Rockies chagrin.

NBA Final
Miami Fusion 102 - 94 Denver Rockies

Finals MVP
Garry Bush (Miami Fusion)
Remember him? The leagues first ever scoring title winner as a Biscuit... part of the Diablos 'Big 3' and now owner of his first ring as part of the Miami revolution.

Draft Top #5
1 - Anthony Bowen (PG) Chicago Mustangs 79OVR
2 - Mathew Gilbert (PG) Cincinnati Royals 75OVR
3 - Norm Barrett (C) Jacksonville Juice 76OVR
4 - Chin' Cooper (PG) Chicago Americans 76OVR
5 - Bryant Gordon (PF) Bronx Bulls 72OVR

Thanks for checking in.

Yeah St Louis are not having the best of times, only 2 playoff appearances and just 1 winning season from 6.

The Juice on the other hand are one of the top tier teams making the Conference Finals 4 times, winning 1 of their 2 NBA Finals appearances.

Re: The Alternate NBA

Recapping Year Seven:

A new order has begun to appear in the league this year as the 24-5 Seattle Spirit and the 23-6 Boston Irish came to the fore in their respective Conferences, headlining the playoff lineups.

It wasnt all change as the Gamblers again topped the Pacific, Detroit took their familiar place atop the Central and former Champion Indianapolis clinched the Southeast ahead of the defending Champs' Miami.

Louisville went one step further then last year by winning the Southwest as the divisions only winning record, whilst at the other end of the scale the Rush 6-3 and Americans 7-22 have a long road ahead of them to get their house in order.

Division Winners
Atlantic - Boston Irish (23-6)
Central- Detroit Motors (17-12)
Southeast - Indianapolis Freedom (18-11)
Northwest - Seattle Spirit (24-5)
Pacific - Las Vegas Gamblers (18-11)
Southwest - Louisville Racers (19-10)

Bo' Lawson of the Gamblers became the first player to win a 2nd MVP award as his 19.8PPG 8.4APG efforts saw him take back the reign of the leagues best.

Another old face to come back to the fore would be David Cowen as he won the Defensive Player of the Year with 12.6RPG, whilst Anthony Bowen of the Mustangs gives the ailing Chicago franchise hope with his Rookie of the Year performance.

Honors
MVP - Boruch Lawson (Las Vegas Gamblers)
Rookie - Anthony Bowen (Chicago Mustangs)
6th Man - Lonny Conley (St. Louis Flight)
Defensive - David Cowen (Anaheim Diablos)
Most Improved - Andy Thomas (Austin Surge)
Scoring Title - Boruch Lawson (Las Vegas Gamblers)
All NBA - Calbert York (BAL) / Barry Jones Jr (BUF) / Boruch Lawson (LV) / Sidney Brooks (MIA) / David Cowen (ANA)

Playoffs

*apologies failed with the screenshot again

Western Conference
Kansas City Kings bt Seattle Spirit
Toronto Dragons bt Louisville Racers
Denver Rockies bt St. Louis Flight
Las Vegas Gamblers bt Los Angeles Express

Kansas City Kings bt Las Vegas Gamblers

Kansas City Kings bt Denver Rockies

Eastern Conference
Boston Irish bt Bronx Bulls
Indianapolis Freedom bt Buffalo Blues
Baltimore Biscuits bt Detroit Motors
Miami Fusion bt New York Rams

Baltimore Biscuits bt Boston Irish
Miami Fusion bt Indianapolis Freedom

Baltimore Biscuits bt Miami Fusion

It was almost a repeat Finals matchup as both Denver and Miami fell at the Conference Finals stage, Miami losing out in a rematch to the Baltimore Biscuits as the rest of the East takes a backseat.

In the West the Rockies were on course for a 3rd straight Finals appearance cruising into the Conference Finals before coming unstuck against the Kansas City Kings, a team who had limped to a 13-16 regular season record, yet came alive for when it mattered.

The Finals however would be one game too far for the Kings as Baltimore bought home their first title, leaving the KC Kings with a 2nd defeat in the big game to sour their off-season ahead.

NBA Final
Baltimore Biscuits 101 - 89 Kansas City Kings

Finals MVP
