Curry, Durant Combine For 87 Points In Warriors Win

November 16th, 2017

Former MVPs Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant proved once again why they were both worthy of those honors years ago, as they combined for a ridiculous 87 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks against the Utah Jazz tonight, leading Golden State to a 137 to 103 victory on the road in Salt Lake City. Although the game was relatively back-and-forth all night, Golden State shot right out of a cannon offensively in the fourth quarter, and they never let up. They outscored Utah 48 to 19 in the fourth, a 29-point difference leading to a 34-point victory.

Klay Thompson also added 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists while shooting 6 for 11 from the floor. Jarrett Jack had 10 points in 6 minutes. Draymond Green was quiet on the offensive end, but his presence was felt as always on the defensive side, where he made life hard for Gordon Hayward and Rudy Gay all night long.

NBA 2K17_20170620155133.jpg

Durant added 45, also a season-high, 9 boards, and 5 assists.

Utah's leading scorer was Hayward with 19 points, but it took him 22 shots to do so, making 8 of them. Rudy Gay added 18 points off of 6 for 18 shooting, and Rudy Gobert had 16 points and 12 boards, along with 3 blocks, while shooting 7 for 10 from the field. Eric Bledsoe had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Dante Exum led the bench with 8 points and 4 assists, but he fouled out in the fourth quarter after Quin Snyder sat the starters. Starting shooting guard Joe Ingles posted 8 points and 5 rebounds, while backup two-guard Rodney Hood had 6 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists.

The Jazz lose just their 2nd game of the season, falling to 6-2 on the year. Golden State improves to 4-5 as they try to break out of their early-season slump.

The Jazz had a pretty sub-par week, considering the fact that they went 4-1 in the first two weeks. They won the first two games on the road against Philly and Memphis, but then dropped the last two games at home against the Warriors and the Pacers.

The Sixers game was a classic, as Utah and Philly battled back and fourth all night long. Four periods wasn't enough for the two teams, as they had to go into overtime, where Utah settled with a two-point victory. Rudy Gay led the way with 25 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Rodney Hood added 19 points off of the bench. Gordon Hayward had 18, 5, and 9, but shot just 6 for 19 from the floor. Joe Ingles had 13 points, Rudy Gobert had 12 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 blocks, and Eric Bledsoe had 11 points and 10 assists.

Two nights later, the Jazz rounded out their road trip with a game against the Grizzlies, who are without star center Marc Gasol. Marc's older brother, Pau, had a decent game, putting up 12 points and 9 boards next to JaMychal Green, who had 16 points and 11 boards to lead the way for Memphis. However, Utah picked up a 99 to 76 victory, forcing the Grizzlies to shoot just 37% from the floor. Hayward had 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Dante Exum had a huge game off of the bench, putting up 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists in just 21 minutes. Rudy Gay had 14 points, Bledsoe had 14 points, 5 boards, and 11 assists, and Rudy Gobert dominated with 10 points, 18 boards, and 5 blocks.

The Jazz finally came home for a two-game homestand, and that's where things went south this week. They took on Golden State first, which turned into a nightmare game once the Warriors broke it open in the fourth quarter. Durant and Curry combined for 87 points en route to a 137 to 103 victory for the Warriors.

And tonight, the Jazz took on the Pacers once again, for their second and final meeting of the season. Indiana once again got the better of the Jazz, winning 114 to 108 in Salt Lake City. Paul George had a stellar game, putting up 30 points, 5 boards, and 3 assists off of 13 for 21 shooting. Myles Turner had 21 points and 13 boards, as well as 4 blocks. Former Jazzman C.J. Miles had 17 points, and rookie Zach Collins added 16 points and 5 boards in just 20 minutes off of the bench. Hayward had a near-triple double with 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Hood added 17 off of the bench, and Exum also brought 14 off the bench.

The Jazz take on Portland tomorrow night on the road, before returning to Salt Lake City for a four-game homestand. They play the struggling Clippers and the Knicks later this week.

The Denver Nuggets sit at the bottom of the NBA with a paltry 1-7 record. Although their offense has been pretty sufficient, scoring 106.9 points per 100 possessions (11th in the league), their defense has been a league-worst 115.2 per 100 possessions. Mike Malone is officially on the hotseat, as the Nuggets have struggled out of the gate. Danilo Gallinari, Kyle Lowry, Nikola Jokic, and Gary Harris are all putting up great numbers offensively, but the absence of Jamal Murray is definitely felt in the second unit. Expect rookie forward O.G. Anunoby to be benched in favor of a true power forward to enable Gallinari to play at the 3 defensively.

The Wizards are off to a 7-1 start, and they can four people for it; John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter Jr., and Scott Brooks. Brooks has the team running smoothly out the gate, as they have the league's best offense at 113.9 points per 100 possessions, and their defense isn't too shabby either, at 98.3 per 100 possessions. Both Brad Beal and John Wall are having career-years thus far, let's see if it continues for the season.

Indiana is also out to a hot start, going 8-2 for the first three weeks. They have one of the league's best defenses, allowing just 97.6 points per 100 possessions, and they're doing most of this without starting shooting guard, rookie Derrick White. Jeff Teague's elbow injury could be very concerning, as he could be out for up to a month. Langston Galloway is expected to get the start in the already thin backcourt.

The Detroit Pistons might be the most surprising team at the start of this season, going 8-2 to start off the year. They have the fourth-best defense, and the fifth-best offense, being the only team to rank in the top-five for both per 100 possessions. None of their players have really jumped out as exceptional, though Reggie Jackson is shooting phenomenally thus far. He's averaging 17 and 8 a night while shooting 54.4% from the floor and 40% from three. Andre Drummond is putting up 16 and 13 per game, and KCP has taken a leap forward offensively as well. Rookie Lauri Markkanen has stepped up his game, proving that he deserves his starting role.

After Jrue Holiday's injury, the Pelicans released forward Cheick Diallo and signed point guard Tony Wroten. Wroten hasn't played since the 2015-2016 season. He averaged 17 points a night in Philadelphia in 2014-2015.

Due to recent news surrounding a specific former Jazz player, whose name rhymes with Hordon Gayward, I may restart this.

Still following. Would be interesting to see where you take the team, especially with Rubio in tow now.

Rubio has been one of my favorites ever since he entered the league. Remember using him on 2k12 in Create a Legend and I had a ton of fun. Really excited to use Donovan Mitchell, too.

1. It's always so depressing when Warriors shoot 40+% 3pt as a team vs you.
2. **** Gayward.
3. I hope you still stick with this and trade him away for another young wing, who can develop to a star in a few years.
