    Bleeding Blue - Dallas Mavericks

    Bleeding Blue - Dallas Mavericks

Hey guys! As my exams are done and I am ready to return to the field of storytelling! As I will start with the Dallas Mavericks, I know and want to acknowledge the fact that there already is a successful one, but hopefully, I can provide some healthy competition with this one! :P

The off-season antics will be posted up quickly and briefly (with pictures), so we could get onto to the 17/18 season quickly. So sit back, enjoy the ride, and let's go!

              [0-0] Dallas Mavericks @ Indiana Pacers [0-0]
Mavericks | Team Stats | Pacers

Dirk goes for 30 in the second half, as Mavs cruise past Indiana

              November 1, 2017

While it looked like an intense battle in the first quarter, separating the two teams with 3 points only, it was the German legend himself going absolutely huge in the second half, scoring 30 points. The third quarter was the breakthrough, as at some point, Dallas had the biggest lead of the game – 22 points.

For the Pacers, it was a struggle all-around. Paul George had a tough night shooting, especially from deep (2-8 from 3PT). This was reflected from the shooting of the whole team from deep, as they shot 19% from deep, compared to 44% to the Mavericks. “While we handled the ball well, our shot selection as a whole was very questionable, “was the general tone for Nate McMillan.

              KEY STAT

The effort on the boards made a key difference between the teams, as Dallas was +19 on the defensive side of the glass.

              ROOKIE REPORT

The main man who caught everyone’s eye was Lonzo Ball, who got the starting nod against Mario Chalmers. The rookie might have six turnovers, but finished the game with a very respectable stat-line, most notable was his tally of assists – 14. Coach Rick Carlisle was notably satisfied. “Look, Jason Kidd had a double-double in this first game but had 11 assists. Lonzo finished with 14. Obviously, I am not saying he is better than Jason, but I have been glad to see his effort is the same on and off the court.”

However, another starting rookie for the Pacers was even better, as Donovan Mitchell had 14 on the night, along with 8 assists and 6 rebounds. “Honestly, I felt pretty good. We couldn’t get the win, but as a debut, it felt nice to be on the floor. It was an ease of nerves.”

              COMMENTS

“My shots just kept on falling.” – Dirk Nowitzki on his great shooting night.

“It was a poor play from all of us and we all need to be held accountable. Including me.” – Paul George on the team’s off night.

“It felt great, like, I knew players in the NBA were great, but I’ve not seen a 7” footer [Dirk] shoot with such ease. As for my own play, I looked to just carry my game from college over to the NBA.” – Lonzo Ball on his debut and joy of playing with Nowitzki.

Always enjoy looking over these. Love the idea of the Mavs getting to build around Lonzo in the post-Dirk years.

Question: Are you playing every game?

Thanks for the comment! I also think that the young squad of the Mavs is a good one to build on. It all depends on whether or not Dirk retires this season or not.

I don't play all the games - I've tried playing all games in the past and it is too much of a grind for me, so I have decided to play every team at least once, so 29 games played and the rest simmed.
