The Charlotte Hornets get their first win of the season by beating the Atlanta Hawks in Atlanta. Dwight Howard grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds as he continues to be a force on the glass for the Hornets. Howard and four other players scored more than 10 points for the Hornets.

Dennis Schroder continued to perform well despite the loss, scoring 22 points. Schroder is averaging a career high in points and assists per game with 24.9 points and 6.4 assists for the Hawks.

Rookie first-round pick Randall Morrison played six minutes before leaving with a toe injury. He is expected to be out for up to four weeks.

Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic returns from his injury to help lift his team to victory over the Denver Nuggets. Dragic played 34 minutes and scored 17 points. Kelly Olynyk recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly and Hassan Whiteside, who also collected 11 rebounds, helped the Heat outrebound the Nuggets 51-37 in the game.

The Nuggets caused the Heat to turn the ball over 18 times in the game. This led to 10 fastbreak points for the Nuggets. However, the Nuggets had 17 of their own turnovers in the game. Nikola Jokic got his third double-double of the year with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

The Houston Rockets lose their third game in a row as they fall to 2-6. The injury-plagued Oklahoma City Thunder were able to outscore the Rockets in the fourth quarter 24-10 on their way to the 98-85 victory. Both Paul George and James Harden led all scorers with 28 points. Russell Westbrook came one assist shy of recording his third triple-double of the season with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.

The Rockets did not do themselves any favors, turning the ball over 22 times. Harden and Chris Paul were the main culprits. Harden had four turnovers while Paul had five. Paul finished the game with five points, three rebounds, and nine assists.

Celtics bulldoze Clippers 96-60 for eighth straight win

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- The Boston Celtics are making winning look easy. For their eighth consecutive win in the 2018-19 season, the Celtics demolished the Los Angeles Clippers 96-60. This is the Celtics third win this season by at least 30 points. This win was achieved on the strength of the Celtics defense.

Sindarius Thornwell missed all of his shots, but made 3 of his 4 free throw attempts in the game.

The Clippers were held to a paltry 27 percent from the field and they only made two of their 20 three-point attempts. On top of that, none of the Clippers' starters were able to reach double figures in the game. DeAndre Jordan had an impressive game on the boards, collecting 23 rebounds. Despite Jordan's efforts, the Clippers were still outrebounded 49-59 by the Celtics.

Al Jefferson stood out as the only effective Los Angeles Clippers player in the game.

The only Clippers' player that did well in the game was Al Jefferson. On 6 of 13 shooting, Jefferson scored 16 points and had 9 rebounds off the bench. Jefferson also made all four of his free throw attempts. Unfortunately, Jefferson's play did not inspire any of the other players around him. Not counting Jefferson, the Clippers' bench shot a combined 5 of 17 from the field for 14 points.

Marcus Smart found success scoring in the paint against the Clippers.

The Celtics had ups and downs of their own in the game. Both Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward were not as efficient as they had been in previous games. Hayward scored 12 points on 4 of 12 shooting, while Irving shot 6 for 14 and finished with 16 points.

The game took a turn in the second quarter when the Clippers were outscored 28-8. The Clippers made only three of their shot attempts in the quarter. The Celtics defensive intensity helped them open up a 23 point lead going into halftime. The lead exploded to 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Clippers were held to just 30 percent from the floor.

The Celtics current winning streak is made more impressive when their margin of victory is considered. Only three games have been decided by less than 10 points. In the other five games, the Celtics have averaged 20.4 more points per game than their opponents. That is the kind of dominance that the Celtics will hope to carry with them as they begin a five game road trip that starts against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Brooklyn Nets manage to beat the Washington Wizards in Brooklyn on Wednesday night. Jeremy Lin had a game-high 23 points while Chris Bosh had 18 points and nine rebounds. Thanks to the efforts of brothers Tyler Zeller and Cody Zeller, the Nets outrebounded the Wizards 51-44. Tyler grabbed 12 rebounds while Cody had 10 of his own.

Despite having a 12 point lead in the game and taking a three point lead into the fourth quarter, the Wizards were not able to finish off the Nets. Otto Porter joined John Wall and Bradley Beal scoring in double figures with 15 points. Porter did miss all of his three-point attempts and was part of the poor shooting night from beyond the arc.
