Re: Grit & Grind :: 2K19 Memphis Grizzlies Association
MEMPHIS COMES TO TERMS ON PARSONS BUYOUT 25 Oct 2019 Memphis, TN Surprising a lot of NBA brass, the Memphis Grizzlies cut ties with 6'10 forward Chandler Parsons on Friday morning - this after Memphis gained no traction on trade fronts including the 31 year old former Florida Gator throughout the summer and leading into the fall. Parsons is expected to slowly reach game shape, before working out for a few contenders in early 2020. "I wanted to give Chandler as much time as he could to get to a point in which he's helping a team win. I wish him nothing but the best in that pursuit." GM Troy Weaver said in a midday press conference. Parsons has not played significant minutes for Memphis in over two seasons - the former Maverick has not played a major role for any team in almost four seasons. While terms of the buyout were not released exactly, Memphis is expected to save around $5.5M of the $25.1M owed to Parsons in '19-20. Parsons has drawn considerable interest from teams in the past due to his three point ability from any point on the arc - a hot commodity at 6'10, though at $25M, his price tagged proved too steep for returns on investment. The market for Parsons should open up in the coming months. "I just want to thank the Memphis Grizzlies organization with all my heart. I truly appreciate the opportunity that was afforded to me here. While sad, I'm excited to move on and see what else I am able to accomplish in the league." Parsons said on Twitter Friday afternoon, "I'll be back, Gator Nation, stay tuned!" |

Memphis Grizzlies | 2019-2020 Season | 24 Oct 2019 - 16 Nov 2019
Behind Kemba Walker [17/4/5] and Miles Bridges [21/4/2], the Charlotte Hornets were able to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies, 83-78. Despite another strong performance from Robert Parish [16/13/1], the Grizzlies fall to 0-2 on the year. SG Dillon Brooks was able to snag a career-high 4 steals in the contest. Jaren Jackson was able to put up 6 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
With a 9 point advantage heading into the fourth quarter, Andrew Wiggins and the Minnesota Timberwolves sunk the dagger, outscoring Memphis 35-23 in the final period en route to a 106-87 victory. Wiggins [21/8/2] combined with Karl Anthony Towns [18/13/5] for 25 points in the second half, dropping the Grizzlies to 0-3 on the season. For Memphis, Robert Parish continues to impress, with a all-staresque stat line of 16/16/0/1/4. Again, JJJ failed to find his mark offensively, something that the Grizzlies will not be able to long go without.
On the heels of a career-high 35 points, Marvin Bagley III, joining 5 other Kings players in double digits, led Sacramento to a 127-111 win Wednesday night. Malik Monk [21/3/0] and Jaren Jackson Jr [21/6/4] led Memphis in scoring with 21 a piece, as rookie Robert Parish continued on in dominant fashion, netting his 4th double-double in as many games. Most notably, 3 of his first 4 games has resulted in at least 15 points and 15 rebounds for the big man. Backup Jevon Carter [14/2/7], starting for an injured Dennis Smith Jr, also managed 7 assists.
In their first win of the season, Memphis boasted 4 players with a rebound total of at least 10 [JJJ, Parish, Powell, Anderson] as they warded off the visiting Clippers on Saturday evening. Monk and Jackson again led all Grizzlies players with 20 points a piece. Robert Parish notched his fifth double-double in as many games, as Dwight Powell contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds of his own. The Grizzlies move on to host Orlando after a two day break.
Robert Parish [16/13/2/1/1] is taking the league by storm - the big man is virtually indefensible inside the paint. The big man notched another double-double in the winning effort against Orlando on Tuesday, 101-93. Bojan Bogdanovic [18/5/2] led all Memphis scorers with 18 points, dropping 9 in the final 7:43 to bring home a second straight victory for the young Grizzlies. Youngster Jevon Carter hung an impressive 7/5/8 line, adding two steals as he continues to impress in the void left behind by DSJ.
With 3.6 remaining, Andrew Wiggins [18/5/2] crushed the remaining life out of Memphis, as the Grizzlies fell in Minnesota, 111-108. Rook Robert Parish set a career high with 19 boards, as he chipped in 15 points to go with them. JJJ led the Grizzlies, going 8-15 from the field, and adding 3 from deep for a line of 19/5/1/2. The well rounded product from MSU has shown promise in all aspects of the game early into his second season. Again, draft mate Jevon Carter posted 17 points and 8 dimes, continuing to prove he's capable of being the stop-gap until DSJ returns.
After twelve minutes of play on Sunday afternoon, the hosting LA Clippers found themselves with only 10 points, and Memphis coasted to their third victory of the year with ease. Malik Monk [23/5/1] was electric from deep, going 5-7 on the afternoon, as big men Jaren Jackson Jr [20/14/2] and Robert Parish [11/6/0] continued their early domination in the paint. Jevon Carter added 16 points and 9 assists in the effort, also posting a career-high 3 steals.
With one of the biggest Free Agent acquisitions of the summer in DeMarcus Cousins, the Lakers blew out the visiting Memphis Grizzlies [on their first back-to-back of the year] 114-81 on Monday. Lebron James [36/8/8] led the way, as Cousins posted serious numbers of his own [21/9/1], as both stars rested the entirety of the fourth in their runaway win. For the Grizzlies, Malik Monk led all scorers with 22, as Jaren Jackson narrowly missed on a double-double [20 points, 7 boards]. Robert Parish struggled in his first matchup with a premier center, going 1-5 from the field, for 2 points and 13 boards.
Second year man Jevon Carter stunned all onlookers Wednesday, draining the eventual game-winner with 13.2 seconds remaining, with a preposterous long-range three over Russell Westbook, to lead the Grizzlies to a win. Carter [21/2/5] led all scorers for the Grizzlies, though rookie Robert Parish again discovered his dominant ways, adding 15 points and 12 boards of his own. JJJ [7/8/0/2/2] struggled offensively, but was a gem defensively, anchoring a Grizzlies post defense that limited Thunder big men to only 10 points on the night.
Matching his career high in rebounds, big man Robert Parish posted 12/19, as the post defense suffocated the bigs for Boston - the Celtics managed only 29 points in the first half, a season low for both squads. Jaren Jackson Jr led Memphis with 17 points, 11 boards, and 5 blocks. Jevon Carter managed 8 assists to pair with his 8 points on the evening, as the Grizzlies moved within a single game of .500. Re: Grit & Grind :: 2K19 Memphis Grizzlies Association
Sources: DSJ to Return for Minnesota? 17 Nov 2019 @Wojespn, @ESPN After being medically cleared to resume on-court activities, point guard Dennis Smith Jr. is expected to receive limited playing time in his return to action on Monday night, when Memphis hosts Minnesota at 8pm. The exciting guard out of NC State has missed significant time since fracturing his leg during the Las Vegas Summer League action earlier this year. The 6'3 guard's return could not have come at a better time; while veteran Shaun Livingston boasts championship-level leadership, his play on the court has slipped a bit. Unexpectedly, second year man Jevon Carter has begun to make a name for himself, starting all 11 of Memphis' games at PG in DSJ's absence - averaging 11.5 points a game and 7.1 assists per game, the West Virginia product has already carved out a role on the team. In limited action during the Summer Leagues, Smith Jr averaged 19.5/2./4.1 - something he hopes to expand on this NBA season. "I'm pumped to get back out there with my guys. They've played amazing while I've been recovering, and I really hope that I can bring something else to the table and get back out there," said the guard in an interview earlier this morning. The Grizzlies, scoring a league-worst 97.5 points per game, have struggled to find consistency offensively on the year - forward Jaren Jackson Jr and center Robert Parish are both defensive gems, yet haven't found a way for repeat success offensively yet. Coach Tyronn Lue believes that DSJ can help shift that "Dennis can go get buckets - hell, everyone on this team can go get a bucket, but Dennis just has a special ease to it." When questioned on the amount of minutes DJS may receive, Lue remained mum, "I'm not going to slap a number on that and stick to it. We're going to feel it out and just see how it goes, man. |

Re: Grit & Grind :: 2K19 Memphis Grizzlies Association
Memphis Grizzlies | 2019-2020 Season | Minnesota Timberwolves at Memphis Grizzlies Grizzlies Roar in Win; Monk to Miss Time 18 Nov 2019 MEMPHIS, TN -- After holding Minnesota to a mere 17 points in the first quarter on Monday night, the Timberwolves, on the heels of a ferocious Andrew Wiggings [19/4/7], came striking back in the second and third quarter, outscoring Memphis by 11 to carry a 4 point lead into the fourth. Thirty-three seconds into the fourth, Malik Monk turned his right ankle on a corner 3, going down in pain. Later tests would reveal a broken right ankle, with a return timetable of 2-4 months. The Kentucky product is averaging a career-high 15.6 points per game for Memphis, something the Grizzlies might have to find somewhere else on their roster. After losing Monk, the fire truly sparked for Memphis, as they roared out to a 41 point fourth en route to a 110-96 win. The twin bigs in the middle, Jaren Jackson Jr and Robert Parish, paved the way for the Grizzlies on Monday, each posting better than 20/15's, combining for 45 points and 35 rebounds - the duo feasted on a Towns-less Wolves post. The loss of Towns also presented an opportunity for Dennis Smith Jr to slash - the point guard was able to draw 11 foul shots in only 25 minutes of play. The return of Dennis Smith [20/4/5] came at a handy time for the Grizzlies, as it gives them room to feature PG Jevon Carter as the main ball-handler, with DSJ returning to off-ball duties. Carter's unexpected rise to popularity has proved vital in Memphis' early season success as they improved to .500 with their win. "We have a litany of prior injuries to pull information from - the league is simply in a different place now than ever before, we have more information than ever available," head trainer Danny Brown said. "Malik is young, he's hungry, and he wants to come back better than even before. It's a clean break, and we don't expect any lingering issues, so we're just going to take it one day at a time."
Andrew Wiggins throws down a ferocious jam in the third quarter [2 of his 10 in the third], as Minnesota moved to extend their lead. DSJ twists to complete the And-1 opportunity - the return of DSJ sparked a 41-point Grizzlies fourth quarter. Last edited by justaguyfromindy; 01-27-2019 at 12:54 PM. |

Memphis Grizzlies | 2019-2020 Season | 19 Nov 2019 - 24 Nov 2019
The offensive prowess of the Indiana Pacers proved too much for Memphis to handle on Wednesday evening, as six different Pacers dropped more than 15 points a piece in an offensive fireworks display. Oladipo led the way with an impressive line of 25-6-5-2-2, as Indiana scored more than 60 points in each half. For the Grizzlies, Bojan Bogdanovic, in his return to Indiana, dropped 23 points and 4 boards. Robert Parish [3-14] and Jaren Jackson Jr [3-12] both had off-shooting nights, as Memphis was unable to find the offense they needed. Off the bench, Dwight Powell contributed a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards.
A career-high in rebounding for C Robert Parish led a dominant fourth quarter, as the big man hauled in 12 alone in the fourth. The Grizzlies, behind offense from Jaren Jackson Jr [21/6/2] and Dennis Smith Jr [19/2/2], shot 65% in the final quarter, as they held off a 9-6 Kings squad that boasts talent at every position on the floor. Buddy Hield led the Kings with 23 points, adding 3 boards and 2 assists in the effort.
Jaren Jackson Jr [23/10/0/3/2] and Robert Parish [16/12/1] really tested the Utah Jazz for the first three quarters on Sunday afternoon, but the veterans in Utah got the job done, outscoring the Grizzlies by 14 in the fourth for the victory. Jevon Carter added 18 points and 6 assists in the effort, with guard Dennis Smith Jr struggling from the field [3-10] to add to the fourth quarter shooting woes. Memphis continues their fight to stay near .500, falling to 7-8. |

Re: Grit & Grind :: 2K19 Memphis Grizzlies Association
Memphis Grizzlies | 2019-2020 Season | San Antonio Spurs at Memphis Grizzlies Jaren Jackson's Monster Performance Propels Grizz in 2OT Thriller 25 Nov 2019 MEMPHIS, TN -- In one of the most exciting games of the season, Monday night brought us a double-overtime thriller between the San Antonio Spurs and the hosting Memphis Grizzlies. Young big Jaren Jackson Jr came within a steal and a block of a triple-double and 5x5. As such, Jackson recorded a career-high in assists, with 15, as he dropped 32 points and grabbed 10 boards to round out the triple-double. Adding 4 steals and blocks, Jackson anchored a defensive push in the second overtime as Memphis was able to pull away and win by 6. In his postgame presser, Jaren smiled, saying "I think I saw Rob pull his hand away from a ball in that last overtime...he wanted me to get that triple double." Guard Dillon Brooks led the bench in scoring, dropping 20 in what was his season-high. Backup big Dwight Powell came up big in all of his minutes - the ultra-efficient forward scored 16 and grabbed 11 boards. Powell scored 7 points in the first overtime, including a clutch three point play to tie the game with just over one minute remaining. Forward Bojan Bogdanovic started the game 0-5 from the three point stripe, yet followed that with a 4-4 performance over the fourth and overtime periods. Bogie's first three came with 16.7 seconds remaining in regulation, which would eventually be the final bucket, and he ended up with 19 points. Joining him in double figures were guards DSJ [21/4/7] and Jevon Carter [17/5/4/4/0]. After finding success early on, rookie Robert Parish has struggled to score as of late, going 3-11 from the field - yet, that hasn't taken away from his defensive prowess. Parish continues to show the ability to dominate any big in the league defensively, and he's a monster on the boards; Parish scored all 6 points on offensive putbacks. If he can start creating his own shots, the duo of JJJ and Parish could prove to give the West a fit. Guard Malik Monk has continued his rehab of his broken right ankle, but should Memphis continue to compete, they may need to look elsewhere to add perimeter shooting. The 6'3 sharpshooter latest update said he's looking at return of closer to 2 months than 4 months. Something the Grizzlies may desperately need for a playoff push.
Bojan Bogdanovic takes one baseline for the easy bucket; the Grizzlies scored over 60 points in the paint. DSJ bombs one in off of a JJJ assist - the combo combined for 8 of Jackson's assists on the evening. |

Re: Grit & Grind :: 2K19 Memphis Grizzlies Association
GRIZZLIES DECIDE TO PART WAYS WITH SCOUT 25 Nov 2019 Memphis, TNFollowing a monstrous performance by JJJ with the Grizzlies on Monday night, Memphis quietly announced that they have parted ways with longtime Head Team Trainer Danny Brown. Brown has been Head Trainer for 6 years now, but has been part of the staff for 11 seasons now. Questioned about the move, GM Troy Weaver offered "To put it simply, I just wanted to move a different direction with how our guys are trained. Danny's a great guy, and I would definitely recommend him for any job out there - we just decided that perhaps, it was time to point the needle somewhere else." In Brown's stead enters Nicholas Foster. Foster, and assistant to Brown's of 4 years, has worked with a host of top talents privately, including 4 of 2019's first 18 picks in the draft. Foster, who is only 32, hopes to be in Memphis for a long time, "I grew up in Memphis, so when Danny hired me here, man, I'm not sure if excited is even enough to describe what I felt. This is a dream come true, and I'm going to make sure I give it my all - 110%, because that's what those guys in the locker room do. 110%, all the time. I'm just pumped." |
