Pacers will Need to Figure out how to win Without Oladipo
October 11th, 2019

INDIANA -- Last year the Pacers learned how an NBA season can change in a second, all star guard Victor Oladipo was chasing a long pass intended for Pascal Siakam when his right leg gave, sending him down to the court. Oladipo's season ended on this play as he suffered a ruptured quad tendon. At the time the Pacers were one of the hottest teams in the NBA and considered a fringe contender for the NBA championship.

Although many expected the Pacers season to be lost, the team managed to stay afloat for a 48-34 record without their star before being swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs. This is mainly due to the impressive big man duo of Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis who wouldn't fold the season.

Over the offseason, however, the Pacers lost a lot losing forward Bojan Bogdanović, Thaddeus Young and starting point guard Darren Collison. They gained a lot too with former rookie of the year Malcolm Brogden along with scorers T.J Warren, and Jeremy Lamb.

Oladipo is expected to be out until December or January and when he returns it could take him a while to get readjusted to the NBA pace. Meaning the Pacers will be relying on their new additions along with their young core early on.

The performance of the team this year without Oladipo could be the difference between a home-court advantage in the playoffs and sitting at the eighth seed facing the Sixers or Bucks.

INDIANA - In a press conference today after practice Pacers Head Coach Nate McMillan announced the upcoming depth chart for the season until all-star Victor Oladipo returns. There were two major surprises, however.

In a move many Pacers fans have wanted the team to try for years Domantas Sabonis was moved to the starting power forward position. Although naturally built for the center position Sabonis have the offensive skill set and mobility to play the four position alongside Turner who is also a very versatile big man. Although there may be some growing pains the Pacers coaching staff believe the best way to optimize the future of the young big men is to have them learn how to play together.

The second major surprise was that Justin Holiday will be replacing Victor Oladipo in the starting line up instead of free-agent signing Jeremy Lamb. Lamb is unquestionably the better of the two, however, McMillan plans on using Lamb as a scorer off the second unit due to make up for the scoring lost with Sabonis moving to the starting line up. Holiday, although he won't be playing starter-level minutes, will bring a defense edge at the start of games.

The Pacers are just eleven days away from opening night against the Detroit Pistons.
