Hornets @ Knicks

Houston, Ewing and Sprewell on fire again, combine for 78!

November 16th, 2000 | by ESPN.COM

The Knicks are really rolling now in November. They have rolled off 4 wins on the trot now fueled by the play of their 'Big 3'. Allan Houston has been outstanding so far this season averaging 24.0ppg. Sprewell is playing second fiddle better than ever scoring 18.4ppg. The biggest change the Knicks have made this season is to play a little faster and more athletic. With Ewing moving to the bench as the 6th man, Camby can get out and run with Houston and Spree very effectively.

Ewing is more suited to feasting on second units now in the twilight of his career, and as long as he accepts his role the Knicks have found a secret weapon here. Larry Johnson has been struggling to stay on the floor at times with this new found pace, but can shoot the ball well enough to be effective.

Coach Van Gundy is slowly changing his philosophy from defensive juggernaut to include more transition offense and outside shooting. The Knicks now stand at 10-3 and in second place in the East. Milwaukee Bucks have a 1.5 game lead over them. The Orlando Magic with their shiny new toys in McGrady and Hill have them in 4th place with and 8-4 record. The East is wide open this season with Miami losing Mourning.

Out West the Blazers, Rockets and Lakers are tied at the top with 9-3 records. Phoenix and Vancouver are leading the chasing pack which has surprised a lot of people. The Grizzlies who are supposedly looking to move back to the States are performing well beyond expectations with an 8-3 record. Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Mike Bibby have been incredibly good so far. Shareef is hitting 28.9ppg and Bibbys 18.1 ppg and 6.1apg has been instrumental to the Grizzlies fast start.
