Seattle Surprise: The Sonics are back in 2019-2020

In Shock Announcement Adam Silver Announces Two New Expansion Franchises to Begin Play Immediately

Las Vegas - In a shocking, and unprecedented announcement for US professional sports, Commissioner Adam Silver announced Monday, from Summer League in Las Vegas, that two new expansion franchises have been awarded to the cities of Seattle and Las Vegas respectively. Citing already built arenas, the overwhelming talent depth in the league, and a popularity that is skyrocketing like none other globally, Silver made the bold proclamation that these two franchises will be ready to begin play immediately this season. It is an unprecedented move, as teams have already completed the 2019 NBA Draft, and have their scouts in Las Vegas scouting summer league teams as we speak looking to figure out their training camp rosters. Silver announced each current franchise will be able to protect eight current players on their roster in an expansion draft, and may only lose one player from their current rosters. While Seattle will no doubt go back to their own Sonics name, the Vegas team has yet to announce what their name and logo might be. The expansion draft will be held next week in Vegas on the final day of the Summer League, so teams will not have much time to decide who they want to protect, and who they will leave available for the new franchises to select.

Re: Seattle Surprise: The Sonics are back in 2019-2020

Sonics Draft Gordon Hayward with #1 Pick in Expansion Draft

Las Vegas - The Seattle Supersonics made Gordon Hayward the #1 pick in the expansion draft for the 2019-2020 season on Saturday. The former all-star has had an injury plagued tenure in Boston, but was still a surprise to be left unprotected. Seattle is hoping Hayward can return to his former all-start form and lead their franchise into the future. Las Vegas countered with a surprising pick selecting Dwight Howard from the Los Angeles Lakers. Vegas seemed to take more of a win now approach with their draft instead of potentially building for the future. The entire draft list is below:

Luxury tax for the Sonics in their first year! Really really good team that will compete in the playoffs straight away. Amazing for an expansion team. Shocked Hayward wasn't protected! Good luck!!

Season Preview

Will Lakers Return to Glory Under Revamped Roster?

The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off the big move of the off season landing Anthony Davis in a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans, who have moved on to their future with Zion Williamson. The question is will that be enough to top a loaded western conference with new look squads in Houston, and in their same building with the Clippers. Not to mention the Warriors are still here even minus Kevin Durant, and the East is as loaded as it's been in years. The season will be as unpredictable as it's been in years.

Power Rankings

NBA.Com Power Rankings
RK (LW)TeamRecordAnalysis
1 () Los Angeles Lakers37-45LeBron and AD lead a revamped Lakers roster that looks to gain control of LA.
2 () Los Angeles Clippers48-34The other dynamic duo in LA of Kawhi, and PG go head to head with the Lakers for Hollywood supremacy.
3 () Houston Rockets53-29Will the Rockets addition of Russell Westbrook be enough to finally put them over the top in the West.
4 () San Antonio Spurs48-34Pop, and crew keep chugging along looking to make another playoffs in the loaded West.
5 () Philadelphia 76ers51-31With the turnover in the East, the 76ers look to emerge as the class of the conference.
6 () Boston Celtics49-33Kyrie is gone, but the Celtics young roster that took LeBron to the brink in the Eastern Conference is still here with coach Brad Stevens.
7 () Milwaukee Bucks60-22MVP Giannis, is back minus Malcolm Brogdon coming off the #1 seed in the East, this time looking to cash in with a finals appearance.
8 () Portland Trailblazers53-29Dame Time is alive, and well in Portland in a wide open Western Conference, can the Blazers repeat their Western Finals run of last season?
9 () Toronto Raptors58-24The defending champs are now without their best player, but have a deep roster that should still compete in the East.
10 () Utah Jazz50-32The upgrade of Michael Conley, coupled with Donovan Mitchell and defensive star Rudy Gobert have the Jazz thinking they are title contenders.
11 () Golden State Warriors57-25KD is gone, and Klay is out for the year, but Steph, and Draymond still have the talent to have Golden State compete for a spot in the Western Conference playoffs.
12 () Indiana Pacers48-34Victor Oladipo will be back, and the addition of Malcolm Brogdon has the Pacers once again in the playoff picture.
13 () Miami Heat39-43Jimmy Butler joins the Heat's young core as they look to finally break out of mediocrity and enter the contender discussion out east.
14 () Brooklyn Nets42-40Kyrie has arrived, and with KD waiting in the wings the Nets look like they are here to run New York for the foreseeable future.
15 () Denver Nuggets54-28The depth of the Western Conference shows with last year's #1 seed this far down in the rankings. Will the Joker and crew prove us wrong?
16 () Chicago Bulls22-60Bulls fans are hoping Zach LaVine makes the leap as the rebuilding Bulls have a shot to make noise in the East.
17 () Detroit Pistons41-41Blake and crew are coming off a playoff appearance and look to go forward, and not back in the shuffling East.
18 () Minnesota Timberwolves36-46Are KAT, and Wiggins finally going to make a leap, or is it going to be time to blow it up once again in Minnesota after this year?
19 () Washington Wizards32-50Bradley Beal is quietly becoming a superstar in the Nation's capital, but will the cast around him be enough to have them compete in the East?
20 () Dallas Mavericks33-49It's year two of Lukamania in Detroit. How quickly can Kristaps Porzingis integrate himself with Doncic? The future is bright in Dallas, but will it blossom as soon as this year?
21 () Oklahoma City Thunder49-33The jettison of Russell Westbrook and Paul George signaled that it was finally rebuilding time in OKC, after a disappointing decade that saw three MVPs on their roster, but no champioships.
22 () Memphis Grizzlies33-49The Conley/Gasol era ended in Memphis this past season, and now the rebuild is on with exciting rookie Ja Morant
23 () Atlanta Hawks29-53What kind of leap will Trae Young make in year two? is really the only intriguing question in Atlanta this season, as the rest of the roster just wont be enough to compete for a playoff spot
24 () Cleveland Cavaliers19-63It's year two post LeBron, and the roster just isn't good enough to make noise. The Kevin Love watch will be about the only thing in Cleveland to watch this season.
25 () Orlando Magic42-40Coming off a playoff spot this seems like a low ranking for the Magic, but the roster hasn't really changed while the rest of the East got much better.
26 () New York Knicks17-65Look for another frustrating year in the Mecca, as R.J. Barrett looks to become the Knicks savior, and will be pretty much the only storyline of note this year in NYC
27 () New Orleans Pelicans33-49The Zion injury is a major setback for this franchise that they wont be able to overcome this season. Once he's back and healthy the young Pels will be fun to watch, but unfortunately not very good.
28 () Charlotte Hornets39-43Kemba Walker is gone, and the Hornets spent big time money on a backup guard in Terry Rozier. This is the least impressive roster in the league, and not much should be expected of the Hornets this season.
29 () Phoenix Suns19-63It's pretty amazing that the team has been as bad as it's been for as long as it has, and yet the roster just hasn't improved talent wise. Last year's #1 pick DeAndre Ayton will start the season on a PED suspension, and there is no sign of the mess in Phoenix being cleaned up anytime soon.
30 () Sacramento Kings39-43Willie Cauley-Stein is gone, and it's De'Aaron Fox and not much else in Sacramento these days. If Bagley can make a leap this team will be better than we have them ranked here.
31 () Seattle SonicsN/ABasketball is back in Seattle, and that should be enough to keep the fans happy and interested as the Sonics try to work their roster to be competitive in the seasons to come.
32 () Las Vegas VenomN/ABasketball has arrived in Sin City. Once a polarizing spot for professional teams based on the city's history with gambling, and mobs. Las Vegas now boasts teams in three of the four professional sports leagues as the Venom tip off in 2019-2020

Way in the tax lol. Salary total is 207.64M, but gotta give the fans a good team to watch! They've been waiting a long time haha. Luckily a lot of the contracts come off the books after this season.
