Walker earns win against former team
by Edward Kincade
November 7, 2019
Charlotte, NC -- Current
Boston Celtics point guard
Kemba Walker spent the first six years of his career playing for the
Charlotte Hornets. For the first time he faced the Hornets as an opposing player on Thursday night. Walker finished the game with an uneventful 18 points and six assists.
Despite struggling to score, Charlotte Hornets point guard Terry Rozier III had lead the team in assists.
Walker's replacement, fifth-year point guard
Terry Rozier III, struggled. Rozier had 11 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor, but also had a game-high nine assists. Overall, the Hornets offense was ineffective in the first half as they scored 39 points on 35 percent shooting. The silver lining in that was Charlotte's bench. They scored 21 points in the first half and finished with 37 points and were led by guard
Malik Monk's 14 points.
Veteran forward Marvin Williams was one of three players to reach double figures in scoring off the bench for the Hornets.
Most of the Celtics scoring comes from their starters and that is how it played out in this game. Third-year forward
Jayson Tatum led the Celtics in both scoring and rebounds with 24 points and 13 boards on 50 percent shooting. In all, the Celtics had four players score in double figures and they shot about 45 percent from the floor.
The Boston Celtics recorded nine steals and scored 15 points off turnovers.
In the second half the Hornets' offense found it's rhythm as they scored 53 points on 55 percent shooting. The Hornets also had 19 assists in just the second half, showing their willingness to find the best shot available. Their effort was not enough to overcome the small deficit they faced.
Hornets center Cody Zeller records a double-double on 6-of-7 shooting.
The Celtics will get a day off before they wrap up their three-game road trip in Texas against the
San Antonio Spurs. The Hornets will also have a day off before ending their current homestand with a game against the
New Orleans Pelicans.
