The Golden Era | A Golden State Warriors Dynasty (NBA 2K20)

Game: NBA 2k20
System: PS4
Roster: CelticLG
Sliders: Adjusted Schnaidt sliders, uploaded as md2k20
Playoffs: 5, 7, 7, 7
Setup: The season kicks off on March 11, using the updated bubble rosters with injuries. Because of Start Today limitations using a custom roster, I've force won every game so that records are identical to when the season was postponed.
Draft Classes: For the 2020 and 2021 seasons, we will be using CelticLG's adjusted real life draft classes. For the subsequent seasons we will be using JB's draft classes, then JeffRuel.
Presentation: Starting during the 2023-24 season, we will be doing updates in the game by way of multiple reporters; Anthony Nojkic, Isaiah Charles and Ryen Simons. All draft updates are from James Bowman. We will also be sharing updates directly from the Warriors beginning in the 2024-25 season through posts by Rhadi Staley. A full update on the characters can be found on Page 9.

Re: The Golden Era | A Golden State Warriors Dynasty (NBA 2K20)

The NBA 2020 Restart

The Warriors injury-riddled 2019-20 season mercifully came to a conclusion with a 21-61 record, the worst in the NBA. Klay Thompson never appeared, and after Curry returned in March, saw sporadic playing time down the stretch as the Warriors focused on development rather than success.

They enter the offseason as one of the league’s most intriguing teams. Owning a top-five lottery pick and a $17.2M trade exception, the Warriors have made it clear they intend to compete again in 2020-21.

Around the NBA
The Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers powered their way to the top seeds in the NBA, finishing with 66 and 56 wins, respectively. The Memphis Grizzlies outlasted New Orleans, Sacramento and Portland to snag the eighth seed with a 40-42 record.

The Jazz earned the NBA’s three seed and a first round matchup with Denver. Oklahoma City snagged the four seed and will host Houston in the first round. Dallas rounded out the West playoffs at seven.

In the East, the Bucks stumbled down the stretch, finishing the 63 wins and the top seed in the East. Boston outlasted Toronto to earn the two seed by two games, and the Heat rolled to 53 wins and the fourth seed. Philadelphia got things rolling late and jumped to the fifth seed to face the Heat, while the Pacers dropped to six. Brooklyn edged the Magic for the seven seed by one game.

Award Season
Giannis dominated his way to the MVP, finishing the year with 28.7 PPG, 13.7 RPG and 5.8 APG. Giannis also earned Defensive Player of the Year.

Ja Morant eased his way to the Rookie of the Year, while Bam Adebayo was named Most Improved Player. Montrezl Harrell outlasted his L.A. running-mate to be named Sixth Man.

2020 NBA Playoffs

First Round

Los Angeles Lakers 3, Memphis 2
The Lakers manage to sneak by the Grizzlies playing without LeBron James, who missed the entire series with a broken hand

Los Angeles Clippers 3, Dallas 0
Luka and the Mavs had no answer for Kawhi and PG and the Clippers easily roll into the Western Conference Semis.

Utah 3, Denver 1
The Jazz, on the back of a dynamic play from Donovan Mitchell, down the Nuggets.

Oklahoma City 3, Houston 0
Chris Paul and company get the last laugh, dismantling the Rockets small-ball attack and sending Russ and Harden home with nothing to show.

Milwaukee 3, Orlando 2
After stumbling down the stretch, the Bucks’ struggles carried over to the playoffs as they get a five-game scare from the Magic.

Boston 3, Brooklyn 2
Without KD or Kyrie, the Nets put up a fight, but ultimately couldn’t overcome the Celtics’ depth.

Toronto 3, Indiana 0
The defending champions are demanding respect, and if they don’t get it they’ll earn it. Quick work of the Pacers is doing that.

(5) Philadelphia 3, (4) Miami 2
The lone upset of the first round, the Sixers shock Jimmy Butler and the Heat in the first round.

Conference Semifinals

Los Angeles Lakers 4, Oklahoma City 1
Still without LeBron, the Lakers move through the Thunder with relative ease on the back of Anthony Davis to return to the Western Conference Finals

Los Angeles Clippers 4, Utah 2
The Clippers set up what everyone wanted, an all-L.A. conference final as they knock out the Jazz in six hard-fought games.

Milwaukee 4, Philadelphia 1
The Bucks end any talks from the Sixers about how had it not been for a lucky Kawhi bounce, they could’ve been in the NBA Finals.

(3) Toronto 4, (2) Boston 0
Toronto remains unbeaten in the playoffs and is as hot as ever as they set up a rematch with Giannis in the Conference Finals.

Conference Finals

Los Angeles Clippers 4, Los Angeles Lakers 1
LeBron returned in Game 3 of the WCF with the series tied at 1, but could do nothing to slow both Kawhi and PG. The Clippers make their first Finals appearance and take down the King in the process.

Toronto 4, Milwaukee 0
The Raptors prove the critics wrong yet again. They run a perfect Eastern Conference slate and yet again dismantle Giannis and the Bucks when it matters most. The Bucks head into an offseason with Giannis staring down a potential extension and no NBA Finals to show.

Re: The Golden Era | A Golden State Warriors Dynasty (NBA 2K20)

2020 NBA Finals

The NBA Finals are back. The Raptors, once considered long shots for an NBA crown despite being the defending champions, have rolled through a perfect Eastern Conference playoff run to return to the big stage. Meanwhile, their former superstar, Kawhi Leonard, waits on the other side looking to claim his third title with as many franchises.

Game 1
Los Angeles 127, Toronto 111
The Clippers get out of the gate hot at home, building an early lead and never looking back. Kawhi ended the night with a 29-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Lou Williams poured in 29 points off the bench. Fred VanVleet led Toronto with 27, while Siakim finished with 23.

Game 2
Toronto 133, Los Angeles 126 (OT)
The Raptors won’t head back to The Six empty handed. Siakam dominates with 27 points, VanVleet adds 21 and Serge Ibaka erupts for 25 points and 12 boards as the Raptors even the series. Paul George led the Clippers with 33 points, but they lost Kawhi just two minutes into the game with a pulled calf. His status for the rest of the series is uncertain.

Game 3
Los Angeles 114, Toronto 111
Without Kawhi, George had to step up, and he did. PG13 finished with 39 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists as the Clippers re-take the series lead with a tight win in Toronto. Harrell added 20 points for the Clippers. Siakam was held in relative check, scoring just 18 points while Kyle Lowry had 17 points and 14 assists.

Game 4
Toronto 128, Los Angeles 86
Perhaps it was adrenaline that carried the Clippers in Game 3, because they looked severely overmatched in Game 4. Siakam got whatever he wanted, finishing with 41 points and 12 boards, while Norman Powell scored 22 off the bench. George ended the night with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Game 5
Los Angeles 122, Toronto 111
Kawhi Leonard makes his triumphant return at home in Game 5, scoring 20 points with 7 rebounds and 8 assists as the Clippers come within one game of an NBA title. George scored 23 points and added four steals, while Williams had 27 off the bench. Lowry led the Raptors with 26 and Siakam had just 15.

Game 6
Toronto 113, Los Angeles 105
VanVleet made one thing sure: the Raptors would not lose on their home court. The young point guard scored a team-high 23 points with nine assists as the Raptors forced a Game 7 back in L.A. Siakam added 13 points. Leonard led the Clippers with 25 points, 13 rebounds, six assists and six steals, while Harrell scored 31 points and had five blocks.

Game 7
Los Angeles 104, Toronto 95
The Clippers trailed 80-73 with eight minutes to play, before Kawhi took over. The Klaw scored 11 straight points, capped with an and-1 dunk on Siakam to tie the game at 84 with 5:37 left. George took over from there, scoring four of the team’s next six points to end a 15-0 run that gave the Clippers a 92-84 lead with four minutes to play.

George than sealed the game with back-to back threes before a dunk in transition. Leonard finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, while George had 21 points, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Siakam had 20 points to lead the Raptors.

Re: The Golden Era | A Golden State Warriors Dynasty (NBA 2K20)

2020 NBA Offseason - The Draft Lottery

The Golden State Warriors entered the 2020 NBA Draft lottery with the best odds at obtaining the top overall pick, with the Pistons, Timberwolves, Cavaliers and Knicks falling in behind them in the top 5.

The full draft order is below (original odds in parenthesis), but the draft lottery story is below.

After the Kings, Pelicans and Trail Blazers held true to form at 12-14, the Spurs were the first lottery shock, jumping into the top four. The Wizards, Suns and Bulls all fell into line until at eight, the Hornets made their own jump into the top four.

With the Hornets and Spurs leaping ahead, the Knicks lottery woes continued, as they fell to the seventh pick, one ahead of the Hawks at eight, after entering with the fifth best odds at the top pick.

The Cavaliers and Timberwolves also saw their luck run out, as the teams who entered with the fourth and third best odds, respectively, dropped to the sixth and fifth picks.

That left the Spurs, Hornets, Pistons and Warriors as potential winners of the top pick.

San Antonio would be the first name drawn, jumping from 11 all the way to four. The Warriors, who had the best odds, dropped down to third, before the Hornets snagged the second pick, up from eight, and the Pistons, who had the second best odds, jumped into the top spot.

The clear winners were the Spurs and Hornets, with the Knicks being perhaps the, Cavs and Timberwolves being the biggest losers.

While the Warriors were disappointed to drop to third, the organization still felt confident that they’d be able to land one of the three best players in the draft and retool as they look to contend for a championship.

2020 NBA Offseason - The Draft

Full draft results are below.

After jumping up to the top picks in the draft, Detroit started their rebuild with LaMelo Ball. The young point guard enters the league after a season in Australia and as one of the more polarizing players for both his on and off court reputation.

The Hornets, feeling confident in their young guard core, took James Wiseman with the second overall pick.

Perhaps this was the scenario the Warriors were looking for. In need of wing depth, the Warriors took Anthony Edwards. Golden State is betting on the athletic guard out of Georgia improving on the defensive end and becoming a better playmaker in the NBA.

The rest of the lottery was full of players that could be seen as high as four and as low as the teens. Obi Toppin was a surprise faller, going at 11 to Washington. Deni Avdija, at some points considered a top-10 pick, fell to Minnesota at 16. R.J. Hampton, also considered to be a lottery pick, fell to the Bucks at 18.

2020 NBA Offseason - Free Agency

Free agency was underwhelming. Brandon Ingram re-signed in New Orleans on a five-year extension. The Clippers brought back both Marcus Morris and Montrezl Harrell.

Danillo Gallinari departed for the Utah Jazz to provide Quin Snyder with another shooting threat.

Hassan Whiteside left Portland and returned to the Miami Heat.

Re: The Golden Era | A Golden State Warriors Dynasty (NBA 2K20)

2020-21 NBA Season

The 2020-21 season will also be a quick recap as I try to catch up with my current state of the franchise, in which I’m in the 2023-24 season.

The New Orleans Pelicans, finally healthy, tore their way to a 62-win season, tied with Miami for the best record in basketball. Zion erupted in his sophomore season earning Most Improved Player and leading the league with 32.1 points to go with 9.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists. His 34.8 efficiency was second in the NBA behind only Giannis’ 44.4. His 31.3 PER was tied for third behind Anthony Davis and Giannis.

Golden State, with the Splash Brothers back and healthy, won 54 games, good for the two seed in the West. The Warriors utilized their Trade Exception over the summer to acquire James Johnson from Minnesota. They then flipped Johnson and an unprotected 2021 first round pick in exchange for Aaron Gordon and a 2024 first. The move gave the Warriors a defensive boost off the bench as they look to improve on defense.

Luka Doncic suffered a torn ACL in January, missing the remainder of the season. The loss of Luka sent the Mavs out of the playoff race, as they finished with 39 wins, one game behind Portland who went 40-42 and got the eight seed.

The Lakers struggled, winning just 41 games and finishing as the seven seed. Anthony Davis was named Defensive Player of the Year while averaging 27.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals and a league-leading 2.7 blocks.

Giannis was named league MVP yet again. The Greek Freak led the league in Efficiency (44.4) and PER (36.2) while averaging 31.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.4 blocks while leading the Bucks to a 58-24 record.

Giannis and Rudy Gobert became the first players since David Robinson in 1993-94 to average more than 17 rebounds a game. Along with Robinson, the duo joined a list of Dennis Rodman, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell to average 17+ RPG.

Trey Burke was among the feel good stories of the season. The 28-year-old averaged 17.8 points and 5.1 assists on 44.2% shooting from deep for Miami. Prior to his big season, Burke had never averaged more than 12.8 points per game in any season.

DeMarcus Cousins also experienced a resurgent year. Playing for the Cavaliers, the veteran big man averaged 20.8 points per game before being traded to the Lakers at the trade deadline. Cousins’ great year would be rewarded with a Sixth Man of the Year award, as he finished the year averaging 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds with 2.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.1 blocks.

LaMelo Ball was named Rookie of the Year while averaging 12.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists.

Re: The Golden Era | A Golden State Warriors Dynasty (NBA 2K20)

Wow, what a bounceback year for the Warriors -- getting Anthony Edwards had to be a godsend for them, dude is that type of uber-versatile wing that the Warriors use to roll out a death lineup. Happy to see the Pelicans win big, that franchise has had a tough go of it in recent years. Things were very tight out East and in the West the young teams took big leaps (the Clippers, defending champs, barely got in the playoffs!).
