Re: Time to Finish the Job - Miami Heat Franchise

LaVine's 45 Leads Bulls to Upset Win

Zach LaVine steps to the line late in Tuesday's game.

Chicago - The Miami Heat's seven game winning streak came to an end from the most unlikely of opponents on Tuesday night, as Zach LaVine got hot in the fourth quarter finishing with 45 points, and the Miami Heat couldn't find a bucket down the stretch as the 1-15 Bulls pulled off the shocker 112-106. Jimmy Butler scored 35 points in the losing effort, but didn't get much help elsewhere from his teammates. Bam Adebayo was off shooting just 3-10, and finishing with eight points, and Duncan Robinson scored much of his 16 when the game was already decided at the end. Kendrick Nunn did score 13 off the bench for Miami, but other than that it was slim pickings, as Butler faded down the stretch after carrying the offensive load most of the night. Miami won't have much time to lick their wounds, as they have to be right back in action tomorrow night to take on the Philadelphia 76ers.

Matchup Preview at Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia - Coming off a bad loss to the Chicago Bulls the Miami Heat will look to get back on track when they take on the Philadelphia 76ers. Miami's offense struggled without Tyler Herro in the fold, and they will have to go another game without their young scorer. Meanwhile the 76ers are playing great basketball now after their rough start, but will be without Ben Simmons in this one who is still dealing with a lower back issue. Tip-off will be at 7:00 PM local time from the Wells Fargo Arena.

Re: Time to Finish the Job - Miami Heat Franchise

Heat Clamp Down on Defense to Defeat 76ers

Bam Adebayo had his eighth double-double of the season

Philadelphia - With the offense still struggling, it was the Miami Heat defense that came through in a big way on Wednesday night. Miami finished with 11 blocked shots, while holding Philadelphia to a measley 33% shooting night which was enough for Bam to take over in the second half as Miami put distance between themselves, and the 76ers for what turned out to be a 100-85 victory. After struggling the night before in a bad loss to Chicago, Bam Adebayo turned it around big time finishing with 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way for the Heat. Four of the Heat's five starters finished with 15 or more points, which was needed as the bench struggled to generate offense when the starters were off the floor. Miami will now get the luxury of a day off as they return home to take on the Charlotte Hornets Friday night.

Re: Time to Finish the Job - Miami Heat Franchise

Matchup Preview vs. Charlotte Hornets

Miami - The Miami Heat return home after a road back-to-back split to take on the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night. It's the first match-up of the year against the division rivals, and the first chance the Heat fans will have of seeing exciting rookie LaMelo Ball in action. LaMelo ended up in the news this week thanks to his always outspoken father Lavar who questioned why his son isn't in the starting rotation for the Hornets. He may have a point, as LaMelo has been dynamic in his minutes so far this year for the Hornets averaging 16.8 Pts, 5.1 Reb, and 4.7 Ast so far this season. For Miami Tyler Herro is questionable still with his back injury, and it'll be a question once again of how the offense can look in his absence. Tip-off time is 7:30 PM local time from American Airlines Arena.

Re: Time to Finish the Job - Miami Heat Franchise

Miami Rallies to Down Hornets

Jimmy Butler and the Heat rallied from a 17 point deficit

Miami - Bam Adebayo scored 30 points, and Jimmy Butler chipped in with 28 as the Miami Heat came back from a slow start to overtake the Charlotte Hornets in a fast paced showdown 135-128. Miami trailed by as much as 17 points in the first half as the young Hornets looked determined to use a fast paced approach to try and run the Heat off the court. It was worked in the first quarter as the Hornets jumped out to a 42-27 lead, but Miami won every quarter there after, and the Charlotte defense offered little resistance to the Heat's attack inside. Miami finished with a whopping 80 points in the paint in this one as the Charlotte front court had no answer for the Heat's offense slashing their way into the key. Miami now gets a couple days off before hitting the road to take on the new look Houston Rockets on Sunday night.

Re: Time to Finish the Job - Miami Heat Franchise

Matchup Preview @ Houston Rockets

Houston - The Miami Heat will look to make it three in a row when they hit the road on Sunday to take on the Houston Rockets. This will be Miami's first look at the revamped Houston squad after the blockbuster James Harden trade. Even without Harden the Rockets still present a tough challenge with John Wall back to his star form, and Most Improved candidate Christian Wood roaming the middle. DeMarcus Cousins has also been on a tear as of late embracing the sixth man role off of the bench. Tip-off from the Toyota Center is an early one at 12:00 PM Local time.

Duncan Robinson knocks down one of this Three Three-Pointers

Houston - After a back and forth first half the Miami defense showed how potent it can be when it's locked in. After falling behind 75-68 midway through the third quarter, Coach Erik Spoelstra called timeout, and switched to a defensive heavy rotation of Bradley, Butler, Harkless, Achiuwa, and Bam. The results were devastating as the Heat went on a 50-12 run to close out the game, holding the Rockets to just 29 points total in the second half as they ran away with a 118-87 win. Jimmy Butler led the way for Miami with 24 points, while Kendrick Nunn continued his resurgence off the bench in Tyler Herro's absence by scoring 20. Nunn is making a case for still finding minutes when Tyler returns from his back injury. Heat officials are hoping Tyler will be ready for the three game road trip coming up next week, but before that the Heat will have a home date with the Golden State Warriors this Tuesday at AmericanAirlines Arena.

ESPN.Com Power Rankings
RK (LW)TeamRecordNext Game
1 (1) New Orleans Pelicans16-3New Orleans finally suffered another setback, but it has not dissuaded us from putting them at #1
2 (5) Milwaukee Bucks15-4Milwaukee won four of five this week, and has won seven of their last eight.
3 (4) Los Angeles Lakers13-5As the rest of the west starts to maybe take a step back, the champs just keep chugging along.
4 (2) Portland Trailblazers14-6Rough week for the Blazers losing three of four, including a bad one to the Bulls.
5 (10) Miami Heat13-5The Heat are on a tear right now winning 10 out of 11 games to keep pace in the East.
6 (3) Utah Jazz12-7Utah took a tumble this week losing three of four.
7 (6) Denver Nuggets10-7The Nuggets split their four games this week as the West is starting to bunch up in the middle.
8 (8) Memphis Grizzlies11-7Ja Morant and company finally took an L this week after six straight, but they are right in the thick of it out West.
9 (12) Orlando Magic10-7We keep waiting for the Magic to fall off but Nikola Vucevic and company clearly have other plans as he is back to his all-star form.
10 (9) Phoenix Suns11-7Devin Booker got dinged in their last game, and in a crowded west any missed time could drop them spots in the playoff race.
11 (7) Atlanta Hawks12-7Trae Young and the Hawks continue their impressive season currently sitting third in the East.
12 (14) Toronto Raptors11-7Pascal Siakam is starting to figure it out after an early slump, and it has the Raptors climbing the standings.
13 (15) Golden State Warriors10-9After winning three straight this week the Warriors find themselves in playoff position in the West.
14 (22) Brooklyn Nets10-8Here come the Nets. Now fully healthy they've won six straight and are soaring up our rankings.
15 (11) Boston Celtics9-8Time to start asking questions in Boston. They've lost six of seven and are in danger of falling below the playoff line. Kemba can't return soon enough.
16 (17) Houston Rockets9-10Houston is still competing post Harden deal, but you can see what's happened to the offense after games like the Miami match-up.
17 (23) Philadelphia 76ers8-11The Sixers are coming. Even without Ben Simmons they are climbing their way back into the playoff race.
18 (13) Indiana Pacers7-11Great news for the Pacers that Caris LeVert had successful surgery to remove a mass on his kidney. That's the important thing right now.
19 (18) Detroit Pistons9-10Blake Griffin cooled off a bit this week, and so did the Pistons along with him.
20 (16) Washington Wizards9-8Bradley Beal is third in scoring, and the Wizards are currently holding a playoff spot in the East.
21 (21) Los Angeles Clippers9-11The Clippers are making the climb back into the playoff race, but the west is crowded. Who can they overtake?
22 (24) Cleveland Cavaliers8-11Their involvement in the Harden trade seems to have worked out to this point, and unloading disgruntled Kevin Porter Jr. this week should help chemistry.
23 (19) Minnesota Timberwolves9-10The T-Wolves are starting to figure some things out, but injuries are slowing their momentum.
24 (20) San Antonio Spurs7-13The Spurs are in a free fall, and soon players like DeRozan, and Aldridge may be tossed overboard.
25 (25) Sacramento Kings5-13The Kings started the Season 3-2. They are 2-11 since.
26 (26) Charlotte Hornets7-13They better get a grip on the Ball situation fast. The player seems fine, but the father is causing issues.
27 (27) New York Knicks5-13After a promising start it's been a complete nose dive for the Knicks. Another disaster year at the Mecca.
28 (30) Chicago Bulls3-17Someone break up the Bulls! In all seriousness it was encouraging to see wins over Miami and Portland. Zach LaVine has turned it up a notch.
29 (28) Dallas Mavericks4-14In all seriousness someone may need to break up the Mavericks. KP is back, but it looks like too little, too late.
30 (29) Oklahoma City Thunder2-16OKC has lost 13 straight. That's all that needs to be said about this ranking.

Re: Time to Finish the Job - Miami Heat Franchise

Matchup Preview vs. Golden State Warriors

Miami - Following their third straight win the Miami Heat return home for a one game quickie against the Golden State Warriors. Following a rough start without Klay Thompson for the second straight season due to injury, the Warriors have found their groove of late and have shot up the Western Conference standings and into the playoff picture. They will no doubt pose a threat to Miami's win streak with young rookie James Wiseman leading a rookie of the year charge alongside the veteran leadership of Steph Curry, and Draymond Green, who will be back from injury in this one. The game tips-off at 7:00 PM local time from AmericanAirlines Arena.

Adebayo Huge as Heat Outlast Warriors

Bam Adebayo stuffed the stat sheet on Tuesday

Miami - On a night where Miami got their first look at rookie phenom James Wiseman, Bam Adebayo decided it was time to teach the youngster some lessons. He put up a monster night with 24 points and 18 rebounds, to go with eight assists, and three blocks to show off his overall game, and the Miami Heat led all night long coasting to a 116-103 win over the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors were never really in this one after the first quarter, and going into the break trailed by 19 points. Steph Curry scored 44 in a losing effort as while he was shooting the ball well, he got little help elsewhere. Miami got a big time effort from the bench led by Andre Iguodala, who put up a season high 16 points against his former team as the Miami bench outscored the Warriors 43-17. Miami now will embark on a three game road trip up to the northeast, and it'll start with a dandy as they get their first look at the revamped Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night.
