Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Let's Talk About The Bench

If you look back on past teams of a rebuild by GM Bubba the bench by year 2 or 3 is typically a lot more "fun". It's filled with former high draft picks with a lot of untapped potential that are developing and about 21. You usually have a 6th man getting 20 million a year and about 25 minutes a game. They are also usually 2 or 3 guys that are worthy of being starters and getting a lot more minutes than they are currently getting.

That's not the case with this year's bench as its all guys that about 15 minutes a game is all they need to play on a team trying to win a championship. The youngest that is getting minutes is 23 years old. They were all either mid to late 1st round picks or drafted so long ago the draft slot doesn't matter.

Thats not to say the bench is bad or its even a weakness it's just a different than usual. Since its not relying on one or two key guys its deep. If someone gets hurt or is having a off night someone else can step up. It will also allow coach Chauncy Billups to play matchups come playoff time. Let's talk about the guys getting most of the playing time this year.
In short the bench's main job is don't screw things up and let's get the big rested and back in the game.

Bobby Hurley (79 ovr)
Per 36 Stats 17 and 10 38/33/91

The highest rated of the bunch and someone that has improved since even the start of the year. A+ playmaking and athleticism is the ideal elite #2 PG. He isn't the perfect fit playing next to Magic since he isn't a big scorer. He does have the ball skills to run PG and let Magic play off the ball.

SG Staurt Goodwin (74 ovr)
Per 36 Stats 19 and 5 43/43/85

A liability on defense he gets minutes because his offense. He can score at the rim, 3 and be a playmaker while having athleticism. He is currently out of the rotation after Forbes hot streak. When the offense is stale and points are needed he gets the call. He is also capable of creating his own shot.

SG Brynn Forbes (73 ovr)
Per 36 Stats 24 and 5 47/45/93

The only specialist that gets minutes and pretty much just a shooter. The per 36 stats and shooting splits speak for themselves. Magic draws a lot of double teams on post ups so they try and line up their minutes. Him in the corner with a Magic and Collins pick and roll is also key.

F Royce O'Neale (77 ovr)
Per 36 Stats 14-7-6 53/54/69

A name expected to get traded now looks like he will not. He is the kind of guy every championship team has a reliable veteran two-way player. He isn't going to win you any games, but will hold the fort down and not lose it for you. He had shoot bad in Utah, but is currently shooting amazing. His athleticism is low these days so you have to watch that.

SF Bruce Bowen
Per 36 Stats 11 and 6 40/37/82

He was brought over from LA and hasn't taken the leap we expected. He is shooting the ball pretty well and playing solid defense. He isn't a lockdown defender, but is as close as we have coming off the bench.

PF Rui Hachimura (77 ovr)
Per 36 Stats 16 and 6 42/32/75

He isn't the ideal fit with the starting players still is a solid player even if he never lived up to the draft status. His training was focused on 3-point shooting and that has improved to above average. A pretty decent all-around type of player that score double digits in limited minutes.

Mo Bamba (78 ovr)
Per 36 Stats 14 and 17 with 3 blocks 39/26/64

More then anyone on this list he is important because no true #3 C is on the roster. They need him to stay healthy and play 17ish minutes a game. His offense grades are low however he is 7 feet and can dunk. So when you fill those 2 boxes your going to score some points with Magic at PG. His 3 blocks per 36 is huge and he could play more come playoff time. Another rebounder so you have to like the 17 blocks per 36.

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Trade Alert

The trade deadline is still a few days away the majority of the moves got done early so let's take a look.

Celtics Thoughts (27-23, 6th seed)
The defending champs we expected would use Gordon's expiring salary and a bunch of 1st for another star. Gordon has played well for them off the bench so they go with a less sexy move. Boston needed some youth at G with two mid 30's starting G and bring in a 25 year old. Porter has A+ playmaking with high IQ so is a good fit with the J's. He can take over the starting job next year as Russell likely retires and if a better option comes along can be a backup.

Rockets Thoughts (23-29,11th seed)
Houston still can't make any traction despite adding KAT and some development from other young guys. They are on track for a top 10 pick and Porter had been the starting PG for a long time. They get a expiring contracts and a 1st in the upcoming draft. They will need to move some big guys this offseason as they have to many.

Bucks Thoughts (34-20, 4th seed)
Another team that had the salary for a star player that goes with a smaller move. They get a elite shooter that is shooting 45% from 3 this year. His struggles on defense can be covered up with Giannis starting beside him. Duncan gives them something they don't have a knockdown 3-point specialist.

Heat Thoughts (24-30,11th seed))
Miami desperately needs to either be bad for a few years or bring in a star FA as Jimmy's deal is up. They haven't made in waves in the playoffs the last few years and Duncan is a 31 and on a expiring deal. Even though the 1st they get will be in the 20's that's still a big deal for a team with very little picks recently. Grimes is a rotation level player (77 ovr) and at 24 is entering his prime. NAW is now 27 and has A- perimeter defense so a fringe rotation player. Both players are on expiring deals so they can either be brought back or cut loose if they land a star.

Lakers Thoughts (23-32,13th seed)
LA was looking like a playoff time despite a horrible start. Then AD got hurt again this time for 4-6 weeks and the 1st they owe to Orlando is top 10 protected. The plan now shifts to securing a top 10 pick and hanging on to that 1st. They sell off two veterans and if the plan works will go from zero 1st this year to two with some cap space. Chris Mills will be the starting SF for the rest of the year and is 24 with some upside a jack of all trades kind of player. Ellis at 23 is a former 2nd round pick and could stick around for a few years.

Suns Thoughts (27-27,6th seed )
Phoenix is in win now mode while Booker and Ayton are in the last few years of their prime. Graham is having a big year scoring 11 per game while shooting 46% from 3. Bogdan is a A+ shooter though his % dropped from 40 to 31 so far this year. They get a major upgrade on the bench and both players are also fine on defense.

Smaller Trades

Warriors Get Kemba Walker
Golden State (41-13,1st seed) adds the now 35-year-old Kemba Walker (76 ovr) as Houston moves the vet to a playoff team. He is more of a bench piece so just have to trade a marginal young player.

Kings Add Needed Big
Stop the presses Sacramento is 27-25 and the current 5th seed. This means they have a chance to end the 20-year playoff drought. The bad news versatile big man Precious Achuwa is out for months. They add P.J Washington (27/77) a stretch big that can play PF or small ball C. They start two old school bigs in Vin Baker and Brad Daughtry so his shooting will fit nice. Charolotte (16-37, 14th seed) gets three future 2nds and some marginal young guys. They also shed 9 million in salary for next year.

Injuries, Rebounds & All Stars

A quick rundown of 3 stories as we sit right before the all star break and trade deadline.

The All-star teams have been announced and Washington gets two players Magic and Beal however neither of them are starting. John Collins we thought had a chance, but just narrowly missed the cut. His stats at 17 & 7 just aren't quite good enough. Despite Washington having the best record historically 3 people on 1 team don't make it. You could also argue Rodman deserves to make it now that he is averaging 14 rebounds a game. Clint Capela makes the list over them in the final spot as his 12 points, 17 rebounds and 62% shooting was just too high to leave off. Two Eastern locks missed the game this year because they didn't have enough games to qualify Chris Webber and Jason Tatum.

The biggest injury of the year just happened backup SF and defensive ace Bruce Bowen broke his wrist and will miss 4-6 weeks. It happened after the previous trades were made, but before the deadline. The initial thought is Washington will just ride it out and not make a trade and will either go smaller or bigger for his minutes. It is good timing for it with the all star break coming up.

The only name the team is looking at is Grizzles Dillon Brooks. He is on a expiring deal and Memphis is in last place. The trade exception and one player should work from the $ side of things. They can throw in the two future 2nd round picks they got from Kennard who by the way is having a good year in Utah. Dillon is averaging 8.5 points in 22 minutes on shooting splits of 41/30/85. Dillon does have A+ defense, but not much athleticism or steals. The player is the tricky part Vanderbilt and 2nd year stretch 4 Rhodes are needed for emergency C play. This years 1st round pick Sasser is to much for a rental player.

Rodman had a memorable game grabbing 26 rebounds which is the 2nd most in franchise history.

Yeah, were I the Wizards I'd just stand pat. Dillon Brook is a solid player but I worry about the minutes he'll want once Bowen comes back -- with the way the team is rolling, I'd bet on the squad being fine without a deadline deal.

As for the trades around the league, like the moves the Suns and Bucks made -- great job there. Not so sure about the Celtics trade for Kevin Porter ... I have questions if he'll be a good fit for the team. We'll see how it plays out I guess but I think MIL is looking like the best team out East.

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Editor's Notes - What's Ahead

I stopped with 1 day to go in the regular season so not many updates today then will need to go heavy the rest of the week.

I'm surprised I'm still invested in this 2k for this long as typically I've slowed down by now as I always take a break for a few months. According to the stats I've played this for 300 hours which seems a little low.

I do need to speed things along as I will need to wrap things up before August ends. I actually don't even own the disk anymore I traded it in a few weeks back. I got $8 credit for it, and I only paid around $30 so def got my $ out of it. I have the high tier of PS+ so I'm able to play it that way and it ends August 31st

The offseason I'm going to have to shorten as typically that takes 1 week of real time. The draft part will be easy as I don't have a 1st round pick. The tricky part is FA and 2k still has the glitch where players will not resign mid-season. The RFA crash is occurring as well, so those players have to get new deals. I'll prob have to do something like get all major players back and just sim the bottom of the rosters. I may manually give players new deals as well as that's a little easier on people that will ask for more $ then they deserve.

I'm thinking I'll make a deep playoff run so I may try out a different posting style for my 1st round series.

As far as next year goes, I already know what I'll be doing, and I'll be building the series around 1 guy. This is a ideal I had when I initially had the ideal to do the 3 year rebuilds. What I'll do to avoid wasting 1 of the 3 years is just sim the 1st year. Then I'll pick my team that offseason. I've had 2 expansion teams I've tried to add 2 different times and its never really done it. So that's something I'll prob go ahead and do that offseason.

I like the Magic/Bird draft class I did where it combined 2 years into 1. Thats something I want to do as well next year. Some classes in the past have a few guys I want to add, but not enough depth to use on their own.

I do have a new adventure I'll be posting when I end this. It's a sport that doesn't get much traction so I'm not sure how many people will follow it. I've done my research on it and already know what I want to do. It will be something that wouldn't be a big time sink for me from the playing side of things but will allow me to still kill time posting at work. When the game went on sale yesterday, I took that as a sign I needed to buy it. I'm going to try and not even open it for a week or so as I want to play the new stray game that comes out tomorrow.

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Historic Regular Season For Washington

In a move not even the most optimistic Washington fan could have predicted Washington wins 60 games and gets the 1st seed. They not only won a lot of games the majority of them wasn't even close. Something about this team just clicked and they have been playing amazing from the 1st game of the season.

The big 3 of Magic, Beal and Collins handled nearly all of the scoring with only 1 other in double figures. Rodman controlled the boards and the bench was deep and solid with a bunch of role players.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows though as in the last game vs Miami on the quest to get the 60th win. Backup C Mo Bamba got hurt and will miss 2-4 weeks. This means he will likely miss atleast some of the opening round. He is a key part as no true #3 C is on the roster so likely Jared Vanderbilt will get the call. With the play in tournament coming and the injury not affecting him a lot we are hoping he is comes back sooner than expected.

It's looking like last years world champions Boston will be in the play in game. So Washington hopes they get the 7th seed because the last thing they want is to have to face them round 1. If Washington could avoid Philly, Milwaukee and Boston in the 2nd round that would be absolutely huge.

Lesson learned play backups when you’ve done clinched the #1 seed. Instead of trying to get the last win to get 60 instead 59 lol
