1st Round - Part 1

Game 1 was a narrow 4-point win by Orlando lead by 33 points and 9 assist from Cole Anthony. VanVleet and Wagner both had 17 with Fred getting 13 assists. Giannis had a triple double, but just 19 points on 5/16 shooting. Middleton had 35-8-4 and Orlando had 45 bench points.

The Bucks win a close one by 2 points has both Giannis and Middleton score 22. Everyone on Orlando has under 20 points and shoot just 10/33 from 3.

A big win here Milwaukee wins 134 - 118 and they take a 2-1 lead highlighted by 24/26 from the FT line. Giannis was the star 37-33-8 and Jrue had 33. Shaq also had his best game 27 and 10. Banchero was 21-7-9 and Cole again played well 19-7-7.

A must win game and Orlando does 108 to 95 lead by 23 and 13 from Shaq. Cole great again turning heads with 20-5- . A very odd stat line from Giannis 15-25-12 (yes 25 rebounds)

A huge win as Orlando goes up 3-2 with a 7-point win highlighted by 11 steals. Giannis solid again 25-12-5. Banchero 23 and 10 with Shaq alright at 16-13 with 3 blocks. Jon Isaac played well and drew the tough defense assignment 6-8-3 with 4 steals.

1st Round - Game 7

After Orlando loss in game 6 we pick things up in the 4th quarter of game 7 with Orlando up 4. Shaq gets a offensive rebound and a massive power dunk to go up 3. Giannis with 4 minutes remaining gets a dunks and it's a 1-point game. Banchero hits a 3 off a double team assist from Shaq.

Vanvleet gets a layup off a pick and roll, and Orlando takes a 3-point lead with under 2 minutes left. Then the play of night Shaq got another double team and saw a wide-open Issaac at 3. He isn't known for offense but has played tremendous defense tonight so we couldn't take him out. He nails the huge 3 and that makes it a 6-point lead with 1:08 on the clock. Shaq with another assist for 3 this time to Wagner and Orlando has escaped.

It wasn't pretty and Lavine was missed desperately in the end Orlando moves on to face Boston who also barely survived. Shaq won the game as Milwaukee choose to double team him and it created open looks. Some huge 3's down the stretch so the 33% doesn't matter as they went in when they counted. We can't say enough about Isaac who guarded Giannis who had just 6 points on 3 of 12 shooting. He had some help with a full court double team in the 4th quarter.

Surprisingly Magic Sweep Celtics

It seems like every year we face Boston in the playoffs always tough with their defense players. Some good luck here as when game 1 was starting both Tatum and Lavine were day to day. Lavine came back 100% for game 1 while Tatum didn't come back till game 3.

By the time Tatum came back Orlando had won the first 2 games even though Oubre had 22 starting for Tatum. Orlando was hot from 3 going 18/36. Three guys had 20+ including a triple double from Banchero. In game 2 Orlando was +22 in points in the paint with 24 and 16 from Shaq. Lavine had 23 on 9/11. Jaylen brown and Ourbe had 22 each and Smart had 16 and 13.

Tatum did return game 3 and had 27 and 11. However Orlando shoot 41% from 3 and got 8 steals. Lavine was the MVP with 24 and7 however overall, a pretty balanced game. The 4th game Orlando goes on for 13-point win for the sweep. Vanvleet hadn't put up big stats and stepped up tonight with 21 and 12. Shaq didn't score a ton, but contributed big on rebounding and defense.

ECF - Hawks Take Game 1

A brief CF preview Murray and Young are the best backcourt in the league both making the all star team. Then Capella and OO could be the best C duo in the league. Caruso was brought in for bench defense and even Aaron Holiday has improved. They are surrounded by solid young F's. The other side has a marquee matchup Lakers vs Warriors. Golden States big move starting C Wendell Carter is out the year so Green is starting at the 5. Lebron has missed the whole playoffs and likely will miss this series as well. We would project Golden State to win without Lebron.

Griffin was left wide open for a late 3 with under 1 minute to go which would be the biggest reason Atlanta takes game. Shaq tried to play through a injury and Lavine fouled out so Atlanta had to get this one. Trae exploded with 36 and 10 so may have to change defense pressure for game 2. Collins and Murray both played great and Capela grabbed 18 rebounds. All 8 guys scored between 12 and 19 which goes back to Lavine and Shaq being limited. Game 2 the pressure will shift on Fred to play better defense as we know Lavine can't guard Trae.

Shaq Severely Limited 2-4 Weeks

A disastrous start to the ECF has many now thinking Orlando's 1st time in the playoffs with the core will end now. Thats because the player who the team is built around Shaq got hurt in game 1. He will be limited for 2-4 weeks with neck spasms.

His overall grade for now is down 7 points which means he can play through it. The plan for now is to still have him start just cut his minutes back to 20. Bol will get more minutes and Okeke will get 9. If game 2 is a loss then we could shift things around and try something else and Orlando does have some options. It's just hard to see them winning the series without Shaq's improving quick.

ECF Results

The injury to Shaq hurt as Atlanta would go on to win games 2 and 3 then eventually take a 3-1 lead going into game 5. Orlando would win game 5 in blowout fashion setting up a big game 6. Shaq's neck did slowly get better as the series went on still not close to 100%. However, The C spot got even worse as Bol Bol (81 ovr) got hurt in game 5 and would miss the rest of the series. A pretty big injury as Bol's size also helps at the 4 at times and was playing close to 30 minutes per game. Capela as the starting C for Atlanta means Orlando can't really go with Banchero/ Isaac at C.

In the mid 3rd Atlanta had a 3-point lead. John Collins who is still in Atlanta hits back-to-back 3's and the lead for them was now 7. The lead would go up to 10 when the 4th started. Dejounte Murrays dunk was his 32nd point and Atlanta had a 9-point lead with just 8 minutes on the clock. A big game for Collins and a dunk for him made it 15 points with 5 on the clock. Orlando was trying to come back late and a FVV 3 cut it too 6 but just 45 seconds on the click. But Lavine missing the 3 and Orlando had been eliminated.

Well that's a wrap on the 1st season with Orlando and you realistically couldn't ask for a better outcome. You went from the 1st pick in the draft to game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals. You could point to injuries as factor, but that's part of it and every team is dealing with those.

Shaq played his butt off despite being hurt 27 and 18. This offseason will not be one with a lot of moves as all the FA will be back. The roster should be very similar to what it is now. We should see big improvements from Shaq and Banchero and hopefully no regression from Fred and Lavine. Could use some more depth at SG/SF so hopefully one of the young guys improves.
