Round 2 - Game 2 vs Mavs

Memphis puts forth a heck of a effort and comes up just a few points short. The team stats this time were pretty even. Luke again was held in check only scoring 17 on just 12 shots. So you have to get credit to Thybulle for that. He was also held to just 3 rebounds and 9 assist so that's not likely to happen again this series. It was another game where the 3 main wings scored in double figures for Dallas lead by THJ 19. Kristops gets the player of the game with 28 and 18. Ja bounces back with 28 and 8 so that's a positive sign. Mullin is able to score 19 with only just one 3 so that's a good thing. Memphis also won the battle of the bench lead by 22 from JJJ.

Tough going down 2-0. Hopefully you can hold serve at home. Feels like Memphis is a year away from being a legitimate contender.

I was going to post game 3 before I leave work but its a more lengthy update so I'll just save it for tomorrow. Yea next year will be the major year I'll get another year of development from the young guys. The pressure isn't on to win this series since I've overachieved. I'll have some decisions to make this offseason as I'll have a crazy amount of cap space and will have bird rights on the key FA's I have. I don't really have any needs so I don't want to go sign a high profile FA as I like my core.

I feel that on not wanting to blow up the core. Wonder if you could get an Andre Iguodala-type player, similar to how the Warriors got him in 2013 after upsetting the Nuggets. Feels like this Memphis group is very similar to that pre-2015 Golden State team.

Round 2 - Game 3 vs Mavs

It goes without saying this is a must win game for Memphis down 2 games to 0. Dallas wins the 1st quarter and takes a 9 point lead. Luka finally took a rest in the mid 2nd quarter and Memphis was able to cut the lead down to 3. It was lead by good play from the 5'9 rookie. Ja hit a 3 in the final seconds of the half and Memphis had came back to be up 5. Ja was phenomenal in the half with 17 points and 8 assist while Josh Richardson lead Dallas to 16.

Josh Green picks up his 5th foul early into the 3rd despite him being the starter it wasn't a huge deal with the depth they have. This quarter it was Dallas turns to come back and they went from being down 12 to up 1. This came after a Luka 3 in the mid 3rd. When it was time for the 4th Memphis had a 2 point lead and the epic quarter was about to start.

With 7 minutes to go Memphis has a 5 point lead and Ja was tired so was going to have to get a quick breather. A THJ 3 would give Dallas the lead with 5 minutes to go so Ja being on the bench hurt. Dallas would in total go on a 16-5 after Luka had a and 1 on a jumper. Memphis was now down 3 with 3 minutes to go.

Mullin hits a 3 so with 1:22 to go Memphis was down 1. Luka would immediately answer back hitting a 3 off a P&R with defenders in his face. Brunson has a chance to end the game with a open 3 with Dallas up 2 and 40 seconds to go. He misses and Memphis is still hanging around. Ja drives the lane and takes a bit of a off balance layup he misses and Drummond grabs the rebound. Luka misses the 2nd FT and Memphis doesn't call timeout with them needing a 3 to tie and under 15 seconds to go. Mullin drains the 3 off the dribble with the screen and the game is tied with 3 seconds to go.

Clarke was guarding the in bounds and leaves it to have a 2nd guy guard Luka. The pass goes to Luka and he hesitates as Clarke jumps past him. Thybulle was late getting there as he was screened. Luka drains the shot as the buzzer goes off and Dallas takes the 3-0 lead.

I'm usually all over the offseason stuff I'm behind on it since I have so little needs. I have a crazy amount of cap space I think like 70 million. Since I made the 2nd round I can go over the luxury tax if need be with the rules I set up before season 1. I'll do a offseason preview here soon. My pick will be in the 20's so i'll just grab a young player with upside for the end of the bench.

I like that suggestion on a Iggy type player I need to see if any FA's fit that mold I know Smart is a FA so I could throw a bunch of $ at him. The issue I have is playing time so if I acquire a bigger name then I have to take away playing time from someone. Bane is a 75 overall so if he was to improve 2 or 3 points then I wouldn't really need another wing. Konchar is another wing I have only rated 74 but is A+ in 3 point shooting and still young.

I did thank about trading for Love / Wall who are in the final year in their mega deals. So maybe I get a protected 1st down the line. Wall I don't need though with Melton and the rookie I have needing more minutes next year. If I bring back Winslow then it would be hard for Love to get any minutes.

Round 2 - Game 4 vs Mavs

Mullin didn't score much, but he made them count when he did hitting two huge 3's in the final minutes of the game. When Luka tried to go off in the mid 4th quarter Memphis changed up the defense. They extended pressure and double teamed him with Stefan in the game. When asked for comment "We wasn't going to let Luka beat us as we didn't want to get swept". Memphis is able to hang on for the first win of the series 113 to 105.

Dallas fans were blaming the refs after a crazy amount of FT's shoot by Memphis. Ja stepping up again with 37 points and probably out playing Luka. Clarke struggled in the one so you could JJJ get the start next game.
