Bane Playing Well In Practice Just Not Games

Rookie 1st round pick Desmond Bane started the year off in the rotation before losing his spot to Justice Winslow. He has showed improvement on the practice court improving his grade in 3 from B+ to A- and his defense from C to C+. He has gone backwards in inside scoring going from B+ to C-.

The issue is he hasn’t been producing where it counts during games. He averaging just 3.0 per game and even though that’s only in 13 minutes its not what you want to see. The most puzzling piece is his 3 point shooting has been atrocious shooting a mind boggling 12% from 3. He is just 4 for 34 to start the year from 3.

Him not getting any minutes is another sign as to why many are expecting Tyus Jones traded at the deadline. With the improvement he has shown in practice both shooting and on defense you have to find a way to get him on the court. You need to be able to see what you can expect from him next year. With the way Winslow is playing if Bane can show improvement down the stretch then maybe they can go in another direction with their 1st round pick.

Trade Alert

Wizards Take (10-13)
Washington is off to a 10 and 13 start and sit just 1 game back from the playoffs with plenty of time to go to make a push. Mcgee is a upgrade from Lopez as the backup C and brings much needed defense and rebounding. George Hill was playing well shooting 37% from 3 in 27 minutes while scoring in double figures. He gives them a combo G off the bench behind the two stars. In short they greatly upgrade the bench and only had to give up one 2nd round pick.

Thunder Take (4-20)
They have been awful this year with only 4 wins in 24 games so they don't have a need to play Hill big minutes anymore. This trade opens up minutes for some younger guys and they get a 2nd round pick. Lopez is a expiring contract so they don't have to take on any long-term $. Even though its a small move it helps out the tank job.

Cavs Take (9-15)
They had hoped to get another pick for him, but the backup C market is a buyers market. Keep in mind they got a 2nd round pick this offseason to take on his salary. After the trade bringing in Allen they had way to many big man with 5 C's on the roster plus 3 PF's. Jerome Robinson is just 23 and a former lottery pick and with Osmon out for the year he could see a little playing time. They also cut Damyean Dotson which signals another move could be in the works. This move helps balance out the roster with one less C.

NBA Top 5 Surprises & Disappointments

DeRozan All Star Lock
In a contract year Demar is having a fantastic season 25.8 ppg which is top 10 in the league. Plus he is getting 6 rebounds and 6 assist on top of that. He is starting at the 4 this year.

Danny Green Shooting over 50% From 3
He leads the NBA shooting 53% from 3.

Pelicans
They are 18-7 which means they have a good shot at home court advantage. Zion and Ingram are both averaging over 20 a game.

Rockets Don't Need Harden?
Even after trading of Harden they are currently in the playoffs with a 12-12 record. John Wall is scoring 23 per game.

Sabonis Rebound Leader
The Pacers are 16-9 and Sabonis could get some MVP votes. He leaads the lead in rebounding with 14 per game and is scoring 21 per night.

The 4th worst record in the league at 9-16

Siakam Injures
He is out for 2 months with a pulled calf muscle. The raptors still have a winning record, but you wouldn't expect it would last long as they are thin on talent.

Oladipo Struggling
Now playing for the rockets he isn't stepping up during his contract year. He is scoring just 13.9 per game on 29% from 23.

Kevin Love Old
He is scoring just 12.4 per game while playing 32 minutes per game. He still has major $ owed to him for 2 more years after this one.

R.J Barrett Still Can't Shoot
New York as expected as bad which usually means big scoring from young talented 2nd year players. He is scoring just 13.9 per night on 26% from 3.

I'm surprised the Thunder couldn't get a first round pick out of someone for Hill. The Wizards don't have a first to give up so that much makes sense, but as a good three-point shooting point guard, I'm a little shocked a fringe playoff contender didn't offer up a first.

I looked around and none of the playoff teams need help at G. It seemed like every team expect for the Pacers had someone similar in rating to Hill. I haven't had a lot of injuries I bumped up the sliders a little more so they should start happening more now. They are a few PG like Tyus Jones for me or Derrick Rose that its going to be tough to find a trade partner with.

My own personal rule is to not have a team give up a future 1st for a 1 year rental that isn't going to start.

JJJ Rough Since Coming Back

Its February 15th and Memphis is 6 games below .500 and any chance of making the playoffs seem to get lower every week. Once Jaren Jackson returned it was expected the wins would be easier to come by which hasn't been the case.



His stats are way down despite playing 30 minutes a game he is averaging just 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds with over a steal and block per game. The worst part is he is shooting just 38% from the field which is really bad for a near 7 footer. He grades out as B+ in 3 point shooting, but is shooting just 29% from 3.



He is less then one month since coming back from his injury so its to soon to hit the panic button. He does play the 5 some, but his lack of rebounding makes him hard to be a full time starter at that position. He struggles with guarding the perimeter which can be a issue when teams play small and he is on the court with another big like Jonas V.
