Hawks Preview

We will preview Indiana's first round matchup against the 4th seed Atlanta Hawks. They will be a tough matchup with a star player, defense, shooting, home court advantage and depth. They also have as much depth as anyone in the league. The one possible exception is C if someone was to get hurt.

Trae is the star a perineal all-star and 2nd team All-NBA selection this year. He does have his flaws he is bad on defense. He also isn't the great shooter everyone thinks. He shoot 34% from 3 this year and only 30% last year. Despite his issues he is one of the better players in the league and might have to double team him. He is backed up by Kendrick Nunn who came over in the Gallo/THT trade last year. Nunn has quietly been a great backup PG and is scoring 21 points per 36 on 41% from 3.

The wing depth is where they shine and everyone deserves more minutes. Bogdan and Hunter start, and both shoot 38% from 3. Hunter is best wing defender of the starters where Bogan is an offense guy. Trae and Bogdan starting at the 1/2 is something Indiana will look to take advantage when they are on offense. THT and Reddish are both excellent defenders off the bench. Huerter had a down year, but he is a solid player and currently on a hot streak.

Clint gives them a old school C and rim protector and had a big year this year. He averaged 13 points, 14 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He is backed up by former 6th overall pick Okongwu who is ready for a larger role. John Collins the starting PF capable of playing the 5 had a much improved year this year. He can do it all from defend, score and even shoot 38% from 3.

Round 1 - Game 1

Indiana wins game 1 easily 141 to 122 after a big 2nd and 3rd quarter. You don't see many 19 point games with both teams shooting the same %.

Fox lead the way with 25 points adding 10 assists. Sabonis had a monster game 23 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assist. It was a well-rounded game with everyone playing well. Brogdon also had 14 assist the season high for him. Atlanta scored plenty of points, but clearly struggled on defense.

Round 1 - Game 2
What the Heck Just Happened?

We pick things up with 6 minutes to go in the 3rd with Indiana up 4 points. When the 3rd quarter ended the lead was at 3. Durate hit a jumper with 6 minutes to go and the game was now tied.

Fox scores a layup on a iso and Indiana is back up 1. Sabonis gets double teamed and finds Brogdon on the other side of the court. He hits a huge 3 and that made it a 6-point lead with just 1:17 to go. Collins gets a dunk then after a timeout then Bogdan comes up with a steal. It was a very bad pass as they were trying to force it to Brogdon the best FT shooter on the team. Indiana was now up just 2 points with 39 seconds remaining.

Brogdon misses a three so now still a 2-point lead with 15 seconds to go. Trae makes a horrible decision next trying to alley oop it from around the 3-point line. Fox gets the steal and hits both FT's so now a 4-point lead with around 8 seconds to go and things appear to be in the bag.

Bogdan then nails a 3 with a few guys in his face. So the lead is cut to 1 with just 5 seconds to go. Indiana was out of timeouts though and had their defense lineup in the game. T.J goes to the line and shockingly missed both FT's and wasn't even close. Then Collins hit a wide-open jumper as time expired and somehow Atlanta won this game.

Editor's Note - Somehow the timeouts got changed from manually to automatic. So the CPU decided to waste all the timeouts the final minute. I had Brogdon in at SF so wasn't able to get him the ball bc that. I didn't realize T.J had the goofiest FT motion I've ever seen.... oops lol

Deep Breath Taken

Indiana gets some revenge ad barely hangs on to a 2-point lead after getting outscored by 13 points in the 2nd half. Both PF's stepped-up scoring over 20 points each. T.J get some redemption with 14 assist and only 1 missed shot.

It seems like the game one blowout was an anomaly and now you're in the heat of the series. Both these teams match up well, but it's good to see you got the game three victory with Fox and Sabonis both not having good games.
