Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

The Rifleman Isn't Missing

When Indiana tanked in year 1 of this 3 year plan the big piece they got out of it was F Chuck "The Rifleman" Person. He was drafted for his shooting and to give the floor spacing they didn't have with Tuner & Sabonis. His rookie year was decent as he started at PF all year. He scored 10 points a game on 38% from 3. He overall FG% struggled ending up less then his 3%.

This year he is much improved, and his overall grade shows it. His scoring is up to 14 with rebounds up 1 as well. The big stat is he is shooting lights out from 3 at 50% so 12% higher than last year. His FG% is also up to 45%. Its a surprise that he doesn't lead the NBA in % falling just below at #2. He has slower release then the other shooter that was drafted that year Drazen Petrovic and that has benefitted him. You may also remember the 3rd name on the list Sebestian Tatum. Thats who Golden State traded up with Indiana to draft and giving them the extra 2nd which resulted in Nate McMillian.

Mid Jan. Tank Race - Part 1

This years tank race is the most interesting one we have ever covered for two different reason. Current Pacers GM Bubba Davis is rumored to be wanting a new challenge and likely will move to one of the teams that get a top 2 pick. The 2nd being two generational prospects in Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. We will share pics of roster at a later time for now we will give a overview of them.

Magic (12-33)
Summary
It looked like they were pushing for a play in game and then they traded two veteran players last a few weeks ago. They are now 1-9 in the last 10 games.

What If They Get Lucky?
They have a lot of youth on this roster and even after 2 big trades they have depth at PF/C. They need to figure that out and need someone to take the next leap. So it would be easy to fit either prospect on the roster. They do have a extra 1st this year from Indiana and a bunch of cap space. So they could go shopping in FA for win now players.

Trailblazers (12-31)
Summary
They seem destined to have one of the worst records in the league as the West is deep. They could have has many as five 1st round picks this year depending on protections. They will not be making any trades at the deadline unless its just dumping Tobas Harris before buying him out.

What If They Get Lucky?
They would be a powerhouse in the making with all the young players and draft picks they have. However with Penny Hardaway and Ron Harper two tall Guards they need Larry Bird more then Magic. It might even be worth trading up for if they get #2. Sabonis is developing nicely at C. They will also have cap space and draft picks enough to bring in another all star caliber player.

Kings (13-33)
Summary
Its been what 20 years since they made the playoffs ? They removed the logjam at PF/C and like Orlando need one of Vin Baker and Brad Daughtry to be the go to low post scorer. They are getting good G play its just missing some depth without Tyus Jones.

What If They Get Lucky?
They are lacking the star player however I don't know if year 1 they would be threats to make a deep playoff run. Since they have Baker, Daughtry, Bagley and 6th pick Danny Dunn they have enough big guys. It would be a deep and young roster they just may want to trade some young guys for another all-star or be patient. This is probably the least sexy option of any team we will talk about.

Pistons (13-29)
Summary
The lottery pick from way back in Isaiah Stewart trade still hasn't conveyed. Since its lottery protected they have all the reasons to tank just 1 more year. They have been trying to win and have vets with trade value on the roster like Jermey Grant, Schorder and KCP.

What If They Get Lucky?
It would be scary if they get a top 2 pick and Bubba Davis would be hard to pass them up. They have two future studs in former 1st overall picks Cade Cunningham and Cody Pierce. Cody is the 7'2 athletic freak that in a few years could be the best player in the league. They also have two quality role players in F's Saddiq Bey and Jamal Mashburn. It will be interesting to see how many of the 3 vets we named above are traded at the deadline.

Raptors (14-29)
Summary
They are trying to be bad for 1 year after trading 3 long time players. However the talent they have on the roster still may be to good to lose without sitting healthy players

What If They Get Lucky?
They don't need either of the two however it would be downright criminal if they luck up and get one. They have the 3 stars to build around in Scottie Barnes, Chris Weber and a little more raw player Mark Price. For now they still have Clint Capela who leads the league in Rebounds on the roster. Gary Trent is a lot younger then you think at 24 in good 2 way player. They have 5 1st round picks the next 2 years with cap space. Jeff Hornacek will be a quality role player for the next 7+ years.

Pelicans (16-27)
Summary
Somehow they are still a bad team and haven't made the playoffs in years. Zion has been hurt most of the year and I guess its time to seriously think about trade Ingram. They have some veterans on the roster with Jonas Valanciunas, McCollum and Graham. They might trade off Jonas and just let the chips fall where they will. Sam Cassell is waiting in the wings in the G league.

What If They Get Lucky?
The future at C is 7'2 Terry Cassell who has yet to start being blocked behind Jonas. Its hard to trade a Ingram for a bunch of young guys and future 1st because you really don't need that kind of return. Zion is the key here if he can stay healthy him and Bird/ Magic would be unbelievable and you can figure out the rest later.

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Trade Alert

Thunder Thoughts
After making the big trade for O.G they make another one here to improve the bench. Bojan gives them an upgrade at the backup 4 and gives them a shooter on the 2nd unit. This also allows them to keep Winslow for salary matching purposes in another smaller trade as well as a few 2nd round picks. This also opens up a roster spot. Bazley has been solid and is young they have two 1st and can draft a younger player to groom at PF. Bojan is 34 and on a expiring deal so is viewed as a rental and pretty much a 3 point specialist.

Jazz Thoughts
Utah is in a odd spot with a record around .500. They need to get younger yet foolishy traded their 1st round pick several years back to save 10 million bucks for a few years (favors). They have made a deep playoff run the last few years, but aren't expected to be real title threats. They do have a lot of vets on expiring deals just will be hard to get a 1st round pick from any of them as the league doesn't have bad contracts anymore. Since the pick is only top 10 protected they would have to sit both Mitchell and Gobert and even that may not be enough to keep the 1st.

They get younger with Bazley a young rotation level F that's locked up for a few years on a reasonable contract. The 2nd round pick does atleast allow them to bring in a young body. They can replace his minutes by moving Ingles to the starting lineup and also have this years 1st round pick which is a PF.

Other Smaller Trades

Denver Dumps Salary
Denver had the 2nd highest payroll in the league and a record of 24-23. So they dump 13 million of salary to the Kings and give up a future 2nd round pick. Sacramento will buy out Oladipo making him a hot name in FA. They will keep Campazzo on the roster for the rest of the year. Denver is currently flirting with dumping more salary in Mcdermitt, Olynyk and Aaron Gordon. Denver also gets Rodney Hood who is good enough to see some minutes.

Knicks Improve Bench With KCP
New York one of the major surprises this year somehow with a record of 33-17. They bench is very weak and its filled up of mid-late 1st that haven't developed. They trade Quentin Grimes + salary filler and a 2nd round pick for Pistons SF Caldwell Pope. Detroit gets a young former 1st round pick that hasn't seen a lot of playing time plus the draft pick. They also shed the guaranteed 13 million next year. KCP will be a big asset to the Knicks bench.

editors note - The trade exception not working correctly is annoying

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Mid Jan. Tank Race - Part 2

Timberwolves (17-26)
Summary
They are just 2-8 in the last 10 and KAT is still on the roster. They brought in some new players this year THT, Derrick White, drafted Shawn Bradley and moved on from DeAngelo Russell. They have experimented with KAT at the 4 and Shawn Bradley at the 5 and will try that some more. Larry Bird as the starting PF on the roster with KAT would be fun. My guess is they are in the play in tournament. They have also been in trade talks with Denver for Aaron Gordon.

Cavs (17-28)
Summary
They need Mobly to take the next leap to all star player that hasn't really happened. They have a pretty solid roster with major building blocks Sexton, Garland, Mobley and Allen. Markkanean's contract is up after this year. They could use Larry Bird more as they have a hole at SF. They could move on from former Pacer Levert at the deadline making SG/SF a even bigger need in the draft.

Wizards (17-27)
Summary
Surprisingly the hottest team in the NBA winners of 6 straight. They need to find a way to get Beal some help and its not without lack of trying. They found a home for Bertans contract this summer and that opened up $ to gamble signing Keldon Johnson to a big contract. A big issue is the former top draft picks Rui, Avdija and Kispert haven't gotten much better. The bottom of the East is bad so if they just try to win they should at least get close to the play in. Worst case scenario they don't get a top 2 pick and start the rebuild this summer.

Hornets (17-26)
Summary
Still haven't made the playoffs in recent memory and the 1st is lottery protected so the could try and tank. They have just 3 wins out of the last 10. Gordon Hayward is a FA, but they don't want to give him away as they have his bird rights. Rozier is back to playing well after a bad year. They need someone to step up at SG with candidates being Calbert Chaney, Dell Cury, Bouknight and Forbes. Can you imagine Ball and Magic on the same team ?

Grizzles (18-26)
Summary
The most talented team on this list as far as proven players go. They went in big this summer trading a bunch of young guys headlined by Mark Price for Siakam. On paper it should work with Siakam and JJJ as your starting frontcourt with Ja as your star. The west is deep so you could see Ja get the sniffles and miss a month if they are still bad after the all star break

Rockets (21-24)
They have a few 1st however they don't control there own as it belongs to Portland (from Lillard trade via OKC). They are sitting with 16 million in cap room plus 9 million expiring meaning they likely add someone at the deadline like Tobas Harris or Aaron Gordon.

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Trade Alert

Thunder Thoughts (27-22 - 6th seed)
OKC with the final trade for them this year after a busy trade deadline. They get a Longterm backup PF/C with the 27 year old Brandon Clarke. Clarke struggles on offense outside of dunks, but makes up for that with defense and athleticism. He is locked up for several years at around 8 million per year. This is a win now move as they do lose two young players. Clarke is a quality role player off the bench that gives them a sure thing without giving up any draft picks. OKC is banking on JRE never reaching his full potential and becoming a starter.

Grizzles Thoughts (19-32 - 13th seed)
Memphis is somehow only 19-32 and Ja will miss 2 weeks. They will likely hold him out till after the all-star break as the record is so bad. They have a quality roster, but did lose some young depth in the Siakam trade. So they didn't need a bunch of 2nd round picks and get two young players worthy of getting minutes now. They get 4 years younger at C with a similar rated player that still has some upside. They needed another PG after losing Mark Price and Tyus Jones in recent years and Mann will start for the next few weeks. This also clears playing time for a former late 1st round pick that's averaging 16 and 15 per 36.

Washington Adds Needed Big
Washington (20-33) once again appears to be not trading Beal. They have two major injuries at PF/C (Rui and Thomas Bryant). Denver (27-25) had 3 C's off the bench that was worthy of getting minutes. So the teams swap Monk and Olynyk. This moves also saves Denver a little luxury tax $.

Utah Dumps Another Vet
The East this year runs through Brooklyn not Milwaukee as they are the 1 seed. They add veteran Delan Wright who has A+ defense and A playmaking at 6'5. Utah gets a late 2nd in this years draft plus the draft rights to a draft and stash player. Brooklyn improved the bench for a small cost as they hope to win KD a title. Utah opens up playing time for younger players.

editors note - That should do it for trades as like always I spend to much time doing them. They are still some teams I think needs some work, but it reaches a point you just have to move on and fix them in the offseason

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

Pacers Vs Thunder
Pacers Try Going Big

Brogdon had a minor injury so he will miss the game. Indiana used this to experiment with going big playing both Rodman and Muresan off the bench. Isaac would start at the 3 and would guard Lillard. OKC has beat Indiana the previous 3 games.

The 1st quarter ended with Indiana up 13 points. They were being aggressive on offense only shooting five 3's and drawing 5 fouls. Sabonis scored on a post up where he was guarded by O.G and the lead was now at 21 just 4 minutes into the 2nd. It was a blowout at halftime Indiana up 71 to 48.

Indiana would cool off some in the 3rd quarter and OKC would cut into the lead. The newly acquired Brandon Clarke was having a good game so far. The lead would be cut to single digits in the 4th quarter. That would not last and a Muresan putback made it a 17-point lead with just 6 minutes to go. Indiana would finally beat Oklahoma by 16.

The bigger lineup was a huge sucess as Indiana destroyed them on rebounds by 30. You also saw a huge difference in 3 pointers attempted 55 to just 17. The 3 point attempts is why you saw such a big difference in FT's attempted. It did lead to more blocks and steals by the Oklahoma defense.

O.G was letting them fly this game with 21 shoot attempts. After the game the coaches worked with him and the plan going forward will be for him to shoot less (lowered shoot tendency). Nurkic who last year played very well in these matchups was a non-factor. You have to be pleased with Bojan who went 3 of 4 from 3. Clarke as mentioned played well on defense and got some dunks.

Isaac started and played Lillard very well "holding him" to 21 points total and a lot of those were on other defenders. He took just 1 shoot and played great that's what you want to see. Fox didn't settle for jumpers and lead the way with 26 points. This a good matchup for him with Lillard guarding him. Sabonis had his post-up game working tonight. It was a group effort with rebounds and Indiana could be on to something here. Muresan and Rodman both want to stick in the rotation.

Re: NBA 2K - Georgiafan's 3 year realistic rebuilds / remasters

You finally got over the hump against my team! And it was dominant - wow. Outrebounded by so much.

15-55 from three is hideous. SGA and OG were problems, as was getting to the FT line for only 6 shots. Good there were only 6 turnovers, but man.

I liked what Bogdan provided off the bench, and Clarke too. Giddey was a no-show though, and Bias didn't do much.

Maybe change some of the coach settings so that Dame is scoring option 1, SGA is option 2, and you can leave options 3+ blank.
