Will sports games' attention to detail ever rival that of action/adventure/shooters??

i always wonder why action/adventure/shooter games have a level of polish and attention to detail so much better than that of sports games. i know the trend for sports games is to come out every year. when will this trend ever end?? just because somethings been done this way over and over, doesnt mean a change isn't needed. when will companies sacrifice some of their yearly profit to make a process change to turn out a quality product to be proud of?

if they do this, i think the return on investment would be pretty good in the long run. lets face it, these companies like EA and 2k have been around. theyre not in it for the short run. it would be better for them to turn their image around and have one that revolves around quality and polish. either way, they will sacrifice some profits, whether from loyal customers skipping out on them or if they make a process change and skip a yr for more development time.once you lost a customer, you probably won't be getting them back anytime soon. it's probably better to wait and know that when you do drop your product, the loyals will be there and many more may try you out because you truly have a great must-have product.i know they have a contract with NFL and they want a yearly title, but im sure if EA told them the real deal, which is that they can't turn out a quality product that reflects the nfl accurately in the time frame given, im sure they could work something out.

the best game in a long time has dropped on ps3....uncharted 2. the level of detail is ridiculous. it is the main draw to the game for me and a lot of others. textures look real, character models look great and react to surrounding environment great, you walk thru water and your clothes get wet, the way u walk thru snow or how it sticks to your clothes, you shoot a guy and he falls in a believable way, etc etc. all this detail. there have been photo realism comparisons of some of the locales and they are strikingly close.

so why in a sports game the level of detail is so crappy? the teams helmets or uniforms arent even right? the rules of the game arent right...ie players going out of bounds and coming back in to make a catch. injury reserve doesnt work, no practice squads, team specific sounds and crowd chants are missing, cant really do a coaches challenge and challenge what you want, etc. i definitely dont expect a perfect game, but i do expect the most basic things to be captured in their entirety. rules of the game you're playing is not something to be sacrificed or shrugged off. either it mimics the real thing or it doesnt. a rule is a rule. a roster structure is a roster structure. a teams home game environment and the things that happen are what they are. these things cant be missed or not accurately portrayed or it's going to be seen on some level as a failure.

i love madden 10. not because it's the greatest football sim ever, but because its the best nfl game we have at the moment...big difference. i have 3 franchises going and in yr 4 on one of them. i cant lie and say i dont expect more from this title on next gen though, no matter how much i play it(almost every day since launch). every year since ive made the next gen jump back in '07 i'm left with the same question when im enjoying my shooter and action/adventure games so much more than sports titles...

when will we get a better level of quality, polish, and attention to detail some other genres get, in our sports games?
