Welp...here we are. Where P2K can be at his P2K best!
First off, great game for my Canes Thursday night. 7-3 (4-2 in conference) and still in contention for making the ACC CG. I did not see this coming. Yes, the past few games have been close. Extremely. But last year, we would've lost them all. With playing with the most freshmen in football, that new blood has put a spark into the program. Very pleasing to know that Shannon and crew can bring into a collection of talent like this that can contribute right away and win. Shannon is getting my vote just for that.
He would really win me over if he rids of Patrick Nix.
The guy shows glimpses every once in a blue moon. But his overall playcalling is piss poor. Graig Cooper, while a very good player, plays best outside the tackles and with a fullback blocking for him. So why does Nix keep power running with Cooper in the single back? Especially down in goal line situations? Stupidity. Miami's defense under new defensive coordinator Bill Young was suspect at the beginning of the season. Looked good against Florida, but the following games were blah. But the past few games, the defense has shown plenty of improvement. That's the sign of a legit, bonafide and very good coodinator. I could go on and on about Nix, but that would take up two weeks.
I'll just say...I'm happy with my Canes.
While I'm on the subject...I was listening to 610 WIP this morning and host Brian Startare was doing The Football Show, where he talks about both pro and college football. He's an obvious Penn State guy. Nothing wrong with that. But this fool every once in a while (and once again today) brought up Miami and said, "The Miami Hurricanes are the most corrupt football program".
Old perceptions never die, do they? And that was coming from a Penn State dude. PENN STATE.
Now, onto a couple of impressions on the PES 2009 demo:
I had fun with it. The reason is it felt like WE/PES have always felt. You're going to get pressed all the damn time. That was a given. Sad, but not surprised. The players are so damn robotic and it doesn't help that this demo was on the XBox 360 controller. That made it worse.
But what WE/PES had in its favor is that players will make their runs and smart runs, at that. I hate having to do the runs myself on FIFA. While you do have control, it's annoying to do. And the players do not make clever runs. IN WE/PES...the AI teammates do runs themselves and always put themselves in position. Not like on FIFA where your AI teammates just stand around looking stupid at times.
Another thing that I liked about the PES 2009 demo is that playing defense...and I thought I'd never say this...IS FUN. It looks like an actual match out there. Chess matches. The CPU passing the ball around. Not dribbling the ball all over the place and taking what the defense gives them. And on defense, you don't have to take over a player all the time liek you do in FIFA. In the PES 2009 demo, you feel like your AI teammates have your back. They actually defend. Lovely feeling. Actually amazed.
Yup, I'm buying PES 2009. I can't help it. The series is what got me into soccer in the first place.
Now, for a treat. I will do this for every blog.
