Confessions of a Bowler: Part II

Posted 05-20-2015 at 05:10 PM by Padgoi
I'm going to try to make this short. You guys remember what happened last week where I threw a table at this dude (the guy's name is Dennis) and then took a chair to his head before being stopped? Well one of my teammates (with a history of being in gangs, his name is John) wasn't at the alley last week. When he heard what happened, he wasn't pleased. He doesn't like Dennis at all to begin with and when he heard what happened, he lost his ****.

So we got to the alley last night and John told me flat out that he was going to confront Dennis, even though I explicitly told him not to and that the situation was over. Clearly my words fell on deaf ears. In the middle of the second game, John casually walked towards Dennis and shot him a glare. Dennis looked at him back and mouthed the words "**** you" to John. John started screaming and cursing, but was restrained and everything died down . . . for a few minutes. Two frames later, John decided to take it upon himself to walk over there again. This time, John went over to the President of the league (who was bowling on the same lane as Dennis) and told her he wanted to talk to her at the end of the night. He then turned around, walked towards Dennis, got in his face and started whispering something in his ear. Dennis just stood there, didn't make a sound. But this guy Mike (a long-time friend of Dennis who bowls on the same team as him) saw John in Dennis' face and finally stood up and asked John to relax and go back to his lane. When John ignored him, Mike sorta nudged him away to prevent any violence, but this enraged John and he went absolutely ballistic. The two of them were pushing and shoving and Mike went to take John's legs out but failed miserably. John tried kneeing Mike but he also failed miserably. I was about two lanes down when this broke out. I was about to bowl and heard some commotion. I turned around and saw what was going on and dropped everything and raced over to the scene to break it up. I pushed like four people out of the way who were just watching and got my hands around Mike to pull him off John, who at this point was being restrained by this guy Joe and this other guy Pete. I had my hands tight around Mike and was just about to pull him off, but then Dennis came from behind me and grabbed me to try to pull me off of Mike. I let go of Mike and Dennis let go of me and eventually it all died down, but the cops came and Dennis ended up being banned from the premises for life, while John and Mike were told to go home for the night.

We ended up finishing bowling without John (we won) and at the end of the night, John, in true thug fashion, was explaining how he used to be a gangbanger and that "anyone who touched [him] like that is no longer alive to tell the tale." Clearly he was still riled up, but he apologized and went home. Dennis, on the other hand, who was calm all night, was waiting outside for the President because he didn't want to get banned from the alley. I came outside to make sure everything was calm and he asked me if I could ask the President (Donna) to come outside to talk to him. I said "Dennis, I'll ask her to come outside, but I am not putting in a good word for you at all. I don't like you, you don't like me and I have nothing good to say about you." He said he understood and that was fine, so I went inside to ask Donna to come outside to talk to Dennis, but she refused, saying she was done and that Dennis was gone for good. I went back outside and Dennis was standing there like a lost puppy. I said Donna told me she had nothing to say to him and to go home so he shook my hand, said thanks for trying, and went home.

TLDR; my teammate got pissed at the dude from last week who I threw a table at and instigated a fight with him. Melee ensued and dude got banned from alley for life.

Confessions of a Bowler: Part I

Posted 05-20-2015 at 05:10 PM by Padgoi
Last Thursday, my team was bowling a team that has a bowler on it known for being a troublemaker. I've had issues with this guy in the past to the point that we almost came to blows, but he apologized so we moved on. I should preface this by saying that he's pretty much already been involved in 3 other arguments that didn't come to blows because of his style of play. He's a trash-talker, which isn't really good etiquette in bowling. You need to focus and concentrate to bowl well and he's the kind of guy that will yell while you bowl intentionally, tell you you suck to your face, tell you there's a reason you're in last, clap when you miss shots, step on your foot to try to make you mess up your next shot, etc. He's just an overall cocksuck of a person (his name is Dennis).

Anyway, so we were bowling Dennis' team last week and from the get-go I knew there was gonna be a problem because one of my bowlers couldn't make it so we had a sub and our sub is a VERY good bowler. The problem is that my sub was late and so Dennis was doing everything he could to speed up because if the bowler misses the first 4 frames, but league rule they cannot bowl in that game. Anyway, my sub ended up being incredibly late and missed the first game anyway, but not without Dennis being an *******. He came up to my friend Joe on my team (who is a VERY laid back guy) and started complaining about us stalling so our sub could get there. I came up to him and told him we weren't stalling any more than we usually do and why does he always have to give a problem. He told me to shut the **** up. I got upset and told him to **** his mother and called him a cocksucker to his face. My teammates held me back and calmed me down and everything was ok . .. for now. That was the first game.

We ended up winning the first game and losing the second game, so the third game was kinda big. Both teams started off very good in the third game and it was a tightly-contested game. In the 8th frame, I was on a triple and bowling quite well. As I went up to take my shot, Dennis stepped in front of me and stepped on my lane preventing me from bowling. I said excuse me. He said, "Padgoi, this is a pretty big shot, you don't wanna **** it up now." I said, "Excuse me, can you get off my lane please so I can bowl?" He said, "listen man, I just want you to know what a big shot this is." I said, "Dennis, get the **** off the lane." He said ok and stepped aside. I proceeded to crush a ten-pin. When Dennis saw that I didn't strike, he clapped loudly and said, "that's why you're not an anchor bowler." I stepped up and finished the frame, but as I was walking back, he yelled "YES" loudly right after I had thrown my second shot. I didn't take too kindly to this. I walked back off the lane and took one step away, but then said to myself, "**** it, I've had enough of this ****" and gingerly walked towards the table that Dennis was sitting at. I picked my phone up off the table, put it in my pocket, picked up the table and threw it on Dennis (it's not a small table, it's probably about 6 X 3 and made of wood). Dennis saw me launch the table at him and had to get up out of his chair. He said, "hey man, what was that for?" I said, "**** you, you ignorant ****, I've had enough of this, I'm gonna ****ing beat the **** out of you." With that, I picked up a chair that was right in front of me and rushed him. This chair has metal legs so hitting him with it would've undoubtedly landed me in prison for assault. I didn't give a **** at that point, my better judgement literally went out the window and I was willing to pay the consequences. As I picked the chair up over my head and started the swing down, the manager ran over (a portly chick of about 200 lbs who I don't have the best relationship with, but she hates Dennis much more) and grabbed the leg of the chair just as I was about to crush this guy's skull. She grabbed it in such a way that deflected it, causing me to drop it as I didn't see her coming. I picked it up again (at this point Dennis was about 10 feet away from me because he saw I was livid and ran away), but she grabbed it before I could and tried calming me down. I put the chair down and tried to get around her, but she's a rotund woman, so I had to sort of nudge my way to the side of her and from a distance I told Dennis I had a bat in my car and that he was done after bowling.

By this time, a large group of people had surrounded the lanes as they all despise Dennis with a passion. I walked away as the group had grown too large and walked into the coffee shop to calm down. About 10 people came in to calm me down and said it wasn't worth it and as much of a dip**** he is, attacking him will only have consequences for me. They succeeded in calming me down and we finished up the game without any further problems (we ended up winning the game). At the end of the night, I owed Dennis $115 because he joined (and won) a contest I run at bowling, so he came into the coffee shop, sat down next to me and spent the next 15 minutes apologizing and asking me to shoulder the blame for the blow-out because apparently the manager banned him from the bar for life and told him he could no longer drink at the alley at all. I told him he was fresh out of favors and that I would tell her exactly what happened and whatever she decided to do was how it was gonna be. He asked me at least 5 more times to take the blame and apologized incessantly, but he's a mean drunk and he's better off without the beer, so I told him I'm sorry but there's no way I'm doing that. He said ok and walked away dejectedly. And that was that.

Entry #1 - Excursions in Antigua

Posted 11-13-2008 at 01:31 PM by Padgoi
For those of you who are reading this blog, please start here and follow the Entry numbers in numerical order, sorry for the lack of organization.

Let me start the story by saying I am a 29-year old Financial Analyst working and living in New York City. I got married about 5 years ago to a Caribbean girl and we've been happily married ever since.

When I first met her, I knew she wanted to be a doctor, but this dream of hers never really started to take shape until October '06, when she was accepted into the American University of Antigua Medical School. Attending this school would require she move to the Caribbean for about 18 months, and being as neither of us wanted to be away from each other for such a long period of time, we came to an accord and I quit my job in New York City as we embarked on our journey overseas.

We left for Antigua on December 31, 2006. Not realizing that certain Caribbean islands had strict regulations against bringing pets into those countries, we took our little dog K9 with us. My wife had a few friends living in the Caribbean and one of those friends hooked us up with an apartment in the countryside so we were excited. The lady told us the place had cable TV, internet, etc, so it shouldn't be too much of an adapting period. Boy were we lied to!

When we arrived, the customs officials gave us a VERY difficult time about our dog. They asked us for a certificate allowing the dog to be in the country. I had no idea what they were talking about. They said that unless the dog had a health certificate, they would either put the dog to sleep or we would have to carry him back to the US. If they even TOUCHED my dog, I'd be in a Caribbean prison right now, so we were forced to buy a first class ticket back to NY to bring the dog back to my mother's house. This was just the beginning.

The lady picked us up at the airport and drove us to our new apartment . . . in the middle of nowhere. It was about a 45 minute drive from the school campus, it was off a dirt road in the middle of nowhere, and it was completely infested with ants. Adding to this, the place had no TV, no phone, and no wireless internet connection anywhere around. Not the best way to start our journey.

But nothing could have prepared us for what happened the following morning when we woke up to a noise in our yard . . .

Entry #7 - Excursions in Antigua

Posted 11-12-2008 at 02:37 AM by Padgoi
We got to the hospital and went to the emergency room. But this was no ordinary emergency room. First of all, it was ****ING OUTDOORS! What kind of a hospital has an outdoor emergency room? Anyway, they hooked her up to a cardiograph and gave her an EKG. Thankfully, it turned out normal, the pain she was experiencing was caused by stress and lack of sleep. So we went home and she slept for the next 12 hours and everything was fine.
After that incident, everything had been quiet...until this past weekend. My wife and I decided to go to St. Maarten for the weekend to visit her mother. It's only a 30 minute plane ride, the tickets were reasonably priced, and my wife needed a break, so we went. However, this turned out to be one of the more interesting trips we've taken in a long time.

When we got there, her mother picked us up and we went back to her house, a nice place near town. Her mother rented a car for our trip, so travel was easy and convenient. So the second day we got there, we were driving in town and we parked up at this convenience store to pick up some **** (not literal ****, though in the Caribbean, it's not surprising for someone to actually pick up ****). Anyway, on our way out, some trick was scrutinizing our rental car, looking really interested. When we got to the car, she looked at us and asked if it was our car. We said we were renting it. She laughed and said the car was hers and that the dude she bought it from told her it had been stolen after she made payment on it, but had not taken delivery.

We talked for a while about the car and then she said to just continue our vacation and she would handle the situation by contacting the car dealer and the police. We were like fine and drove away. But this bitch had other plans. She followed us. We knew why she was following us, so we drove to some remote location, pretending to live somewhere else. When she saw where we stopped, she drove away. You see, this bitch had an extra set of keys for the car, which she got when she bought the car, or so she claimed. After she left, we immediately went back to the car dealer and exchanged the car for another. The dealer explained that she had taken delivery on the car, but had never submitted one single payment for it, so it was repossessed. She was following us because she had every intention on stealing the car back. Luckily, my mother-in-law was smart enough to return the car before this piece of **** tried to steal it from us, avoiding a travesty for us. However, this was not the strangest thing that happened, not even CLOSE!
The next day, we were back at her mom's house and she introduced us to her upstairs neighbor, some obese woman, very friendly, but also VERY familiar. Rumors had been spread throughout the neighborhood about this woman, but we hadn't been privy to what they were...until now. After meeting her, we went back downstairs and her mom asked us if we had heard of the plot to blow up JFK Airport back in NYC. Apparently, this woman that lived RIGHT UPSTAIRS from my mother-in-law was the ****ING DAUGHTER of the alleged mastermind behind the bombing. And if any of you recall, the bombers were of Caribbean descent (Read this story for more info). I immediately questioned the authenticity of the rumors, but apparently this woman had changed her name AS SOON AS the mastermind was uncovered, but my mother-in-law knew her last name before she changed it...Kadir, same as one of the plotters. Also, this woman was of Guyanese descent (same as bomber) and had a new-born son ...Abdul, named after the woman's father (she actually admitted that). WHAT THE **** WAS GOING ON???

Entry #6 - Excursions in Antigua

Sorry for the lack of updates, my wife just finished her Genetics block course and my hours have been crazy. You see, a block course is a regular course jammed up into 2 weeks during which students usually go back home as sort of a break. But my wife decided to take this course in order to stay ahead, so because of the exorbitant work amounts, she's been studying a lot (and I've been staying awake with her until the wee hours of the morning).
Anyway, so continuing from the last entry, the internet was finally up and running. But in Antigua, in order to obtain internet access, you have to purchase a time card with hours. So I went over to Radio Shack (HOLY ****, a normal store in the middle of nowhere) to purchase a card for the entire semester. And how much do these cards cost? Fifty-two dollars per ****ing month! And while that price wouldn't be THAT ridiculous for a cable connection, this is FAR from that. As a matter of fact, it's closer to 56K. And this is just ONE of the many reasons why I say Antiguans are lazy fools who simply rip off tourists rather than actually work for a buck. You should see their capitol city of St. John's, honestly, the tallest building is 3 stories and completely delapidated. It's a ****hole!

Anyway, so for a long while after the internet fiasco, everything remained quiet. My wife was focusing on her studies and I was pretty much keeping myself occupied with internet work and another small job that I obtained. However, that all changed about 3 weeks ago.

First semester classes ended and everyone was going home for the break. My wife decided that, as mentioned previously, she wanted to take this Genetics course during the break. It's an intense course that last 2 weeks, in which massive amounts of studying are required just to pass. Many students take it just to stay ahead (and to get out of Antigua in the minimum 16 months). So my wife started taking the course and the first week was ok. However, with 2 days to go in the class and the final exam approaching, I received a call at the hotel from one of my wife's friends. She was screaming her head off, explaining that my wife had just feinted in the bathroom and was having horrible chest pains. She told me to come to the school immediately.
So I jumped out of bed, threw on some clothes and hauled *** over to the school. When I arrived, my wife was sprawled out on a bench, barely awake, with a crowd of people around her. There were a few doctors there making sure she was ok. But she was not. Within 20 minutes of arriving, one of the doctors advised us to go to the hospital immediately for medical attention, as she may have been experiencing hypoglycemia, which can lead to a coma if untreated. So we rushed her to the hospital and things got interesting.
