Re: Boxing Off-Topic

Has anyone else been following the eWBSS?
World Boxing Super Series is using Fight Night Champion to run an 8-man HW tournament and live streaming the fights on their Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/WBSuperSeries/

I just finished watching the Tyson-Foreman (OLD) semi-final.
I won't ruin the results for anyone. I think you can rewatch them.

It's been pretty fun to follow and helps geeks like me who don't have any sports to watch.
My main complaints are that it was only 8 fighters and I didn't agree with who they chose.
Butterbean was Tyson's first opponent, lol.

No Louis, Marciano, Klitscho,...
And in the Ali-Frazier semi-final, Frazier pulled out due to 'circumstances out of his control', lol.
So they replaced him with Liston.

The Finals are tomorrow.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic

I can't believe I just watched a fake 12 round fight online, lol.
Tyson wins via UD 114-111 on all 3 judges cards.
He survived a knockdown in the 1st round, then floored Ali in the 2nd and again in the 4th. It was pretty much all Tyson after that.
Fun tournament to watch.

I've heard they will do it again using various weight classes.
I'd love to see the MW's go at it.

You know what I think of that scenario unless he was fighting Ali 10 years after Muhammad retired.

Sugar Hill Steward is very confident Tyson Fury is ready to take down AJ whenever the time comes.

I'd pay for that before Fury-Wilder 3.

Re: Boxing Off-Topic

Been hittin' the elliptical almost everyday for 25min watching old fights. I started with some i've seen like Corrales Castillo 1 & 2, watched Foreman vs Holyfield, but for the first time last night I watched Larry Holmes vs Ken Norton. Great fight, and I've never watched much young Holmes, I wonly remember him as an older fatter heavyweight with a great jab, but he used to be alble to move!

I wouldn't mind seeing Norton matched vs other more brawler types too. Anyone have any recommendations especially for the 80s and 90s? 70s are great too but the broadcast quality takes a hit.

I've seen a lot of fights and used to own a collection of old black and white stuff like a lot of joe louis and marciano, sugar ray robinson etc.
Overall I'm looking for DRAMATIC fights - but not the obvious usual suspects that most have seen like gatti/ward. Stuff that would have been easier to miss maybe. I was a kid in the 80s but the first fight I remember seeing on TV after hearing so much about Mike Tyson was vs Buster Douglas! lol.. But a lot of the good stuff in the 80s I would have missed.

edit; last night was leonard hagler - great fight but kept wishing hagler would wallop leonard who kept holding too much for me

I would suggest watching more Larry Holmes in his prime. Holmes vs Cooney. Holmes vs Shavers. Larry Holmes was one of the best ever. He's very under appreciated because he got sandwiched between Ali and Tyson
