Big Shot Boxing

Has anyone tried this game? It is ingenious in its simplicity and very challenging (for me) even in Novice mode.

Your only controls are BLOCK, UPPERCUT, CROSS, and JAB. Your movement forward is predicated on punching so the jab advances you, keeps your CPU opponent off balance, and helps set up other punches, although it does not score points or cause damage-only the cross and uppercut do that, with the uppercut scoring and damaging more heavily. The block button will move you back slightly and punches will go through if it is held too long. The advantage to pushing your opponent back is that if he is stunned you will have a very high success rate of knocking him down if you are on the other side of the pause button located at the ring midpoint.

Has a pretty good career mode with a variety of opponents and it automatically catalogs your career once you retire a boxer. Upon earning enough career points you can buy boxers with better skills. You can upgrade your fighters as you accumulate money as a prizefighter. There is no speed rating. Your attributes are Health, Power, Chin, and Recovery (how much you recover at the end of each round).

The most recent career appears on top. My bottom three careers were accomplished in pro mode, the top three in novice.

Re: Big Shot Boxing

All bouts are four one minute rounds scored very accurately on the 10 point must system. You feel pretty good if you have a 10-9 and 10-8 first two rounds but sometimes that lead is short-lived.

When your fighter gets older and loses a bout skill attribute points will be deducted. I've seen as few as one and as many as three. If you have cash reserves you can buy back those attributes.

Fun game. Fights are strategic but quick. A lot of countering opportunities.
