Re: Big shock in Jacksonville (HC09)
Star/Rookie Player Analyst
QB
David Garrard
Garrard has a successful career so far, throwing for 6049 yards in 6 seasons, spending most of them as a backup. Last year Garrard threw 2509 yards, 18 TDs, and only 3 INTs finishing with a 102.2 QB rating. Garrard is expected to succeed even more with the revamped receiving core.
Future: Expect Garrard to continue to be Jacksonville’s QB for the next few years.
John David Booty
4th round draft pick by the Jaguars, he’s currently in learning mode and sits as the 3rd QB on the Depth Chart. Hailing from USC high expectations for this prospect but don’t expect any playing time unless both Garrard and Croyle go down.
Future: Unless he struggles if called on, he’ll remain the 3rd QB and mostly inactive.
RB
Maruice Jones-Drew
Jones-Drew was a rookie standout two years ago and is one of the top RB heading into the season. While splitting carries with Taylor hurts his overall production, he still finished with 768 yards and 9 TDs last year.
Future: Young and a lot of potential; should be the starting RB for years to come.
FB
Dan Kreider
Kreider is an elite blocking FB able to blow over even the best offensive linemen. He played his entire career with the Steelers before being signed to Jacksonville’s squad.
Future: Even at his age he’s still an elite FB and should remain with the team for a next couple of years.
WR
Bernard Berrian
After an overhaul of the WR position Berrian was brought in to be the number one option. In the prime of his career he should produce quite well and hopeful puts up better numbers than his days in Chicago.
Future: Should be the number one option for the next few years.
Reggie Williams
The only original Jacksonville receiver, Williams has developed into a strong 2nd option after his 629 yard, 10 TD season last year. 6’4 he has good height and will be a strong, tall target.
Future: Should be a strong option for years to come along Berrian.
Early Doucet
Coming fresh out of LSU Doucet was a deadly WR in college. Though only 6’0 his speed is expect to set him apart from others and make a deep ball threat.
Future: Was locked in for 4 years and hopefully will produce greatly as a slot WR.
Malcolm Kelly
Drafted out of Oklahoma, Kelly is a top WR prospect. A tall, 6’6 WR he’s expected to fill this Jacksonville team with youth and a future.
Future: Should be good for the next three years, production will determine an extension.
Mario Urratia
A WR out of Louisville, Urratia is a project WR. While good speed and leaping ability, his hands need a little work. Will spend most time inactive and learning the playbook.
Future: Unlikely to last his contract unless he steps up for an injury and performs.
RG
Jordan Gross
Gross is the best linemen on this team and is expect to be a leader on and off the field. A big offseason sign, Gross’ presence will hopefully increase the overall strength of the line.
Future: Leader of this line, Gross should be a key player in the next several years.
RE
Chris Ellis
Recoverying from a training camp injury, he’s expected to start this season. Ellis is coming from Virginia Tech and was a pass-rushing force and is expected to be one here.
Future: Apart of an already weak defenseive line, Ellis needs to perform well to have a future here.
RE
Eric Baker
Out of Michigan State, Baker was also a pass rushing fiend. While not having the prestige as Ellis, Baker can hold his own and is expect to also start this season.
Future: On a short leash than Ellis, production will determine fate.
DT
John Henderson
The only true veteran on this defensive line, Henderson has to be a leader. He must be a force so his fellow lineman can be effective. While only 24 sacks in his 6 year career, all with the Jags, he’s an elite DT and a force.
Future: Will be a leader for several years, teaching the younger DL.
Frank Okam
Will start along Henderson after being drafted from Texas. Okam is a big linemen and hopes to draw attention away from Henderson. Okams success will depend on his fellow rookie teammates.
Future: Could lose job to fellow rookie DT Hank Smithers if he fails to produce.
Hank Smithers
Coming out of Texas A&M, Smithers was a low-profile DT. He spent most of his time clogging the middle which led to low-stat production but he has the ability to stop the run.
Future: Could be called on if Okam is unable to make results.
MLB
Mike Peterson
A veteran, Peterson will have to lead this linebacker core. The linebacker positon looks to be the weakest for the Jags and Peterson will have to prove he’s worth his 4.7M contract. Only getting in on 70 tacklezs last season, his age could be a factor.
Future: If unable to produce he will be replaced.
CB
Rashean Mathis
A star CB, Mathis has been with the Jags in all 5 years of his career. While a bit downhill in production he is still considered an elite CB and a force for this defense.
Future: Getting a bit older, production could be suffering but should be okay for the next few years.
Marcus Trufant
Signed to line up opposite of Mathis, Trufant was a force in Seattle, getting 7 INTs last season along. Trufant is expect to make this team hard to pass against and deadly to force turnovers.
Future: 5 years on his belt and only 25 makes him prime to stay for a much longer run than Mathis.
SS
Kenny Phillips
Rookie out of Miami, Phillips was a college star. Jacksonville picked him up on their 1st round draft pick to start imminently. Phillips has lots of promise and high expectations.
Future: Will be hard to let him go if he doesn’t produce so his future should be okay for the next few years.
