Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

I went ahead and played the second preseason game, and we killed the Raiders 48-0. There was one bit of bad news, as Tommy Harris tore his MCL and will miss 3 months. My Texas DT will get a lot of playing time this year.

Passing:

Woodson-15-22-225-1-0
Johnson-11-12-134-2-0

Rushing:

Jones-16-82-2
Dunlap-17-62-1

Receiving:

Bennett-6-77
Carey-4-67
Olsen- 3-28-1
Rogers-3-29
Jackson-3-73
Doucet-3-29
Dunlap-2-25
Collins-1-14
Allan-1-20
Hester-1-1-1

Defensive:

Bake-5 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack
Phillips- 4 tackles
Kennard-3 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack
Opoe-2 tackles, INT
Rivers-2 tackles, 2 TFL
Somanu-1 tackle, 1 TFL

Notes from Coach Smith: "Opoe has been very impressive the first 2 preseason games. 3 interceptions in 2 preseason games will put you pretty high on a lot of depth charts. It's a shame about Tommy Harris, but we expect to see him at some point in the second half of the season. We now have a pretty impressive group of players who have learned the playbook, I'm looking for big things from the team this year."

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

I made the usual roster cuts before the first preseason game, and 1 key trade: I traded CB Zach Bowman and my 2011 4th round pick for DT Cliff Ryan from the Rams. I hated to do it, but the Harris injury meant I needed more DT depth. ROLB Vernon Gholston popped up in free agency again, so I signed him, moved him to RE, and traded him to the Jets for their 2010 2nd round pick and 2011 6th round pick. I did notice Gholston had a considerable loss of potential; it used to be 92 as a DE and was now 85. I bought Regular Season Seminar for my OC, Reg. Season Seminar for my DC, Performance 3 for my OLC and Quarterback readiness for my QBC before the game.

We won the game 21-14 against the Rams; Freddie Lewis had a key INT as the Rams were looking to tie the game up near the end of regulation.

Passing:

Woodson-15-20-154-1-0
Johnson-6-11-99

Rushing:
Jones-12-7
Dunlap-6-25

I'm wondering if it would be better to have Dunlap as the trucking back 1st on the depth chart to wear down the defense in the 1st half, and then have Jones take advantage in the 2nd half.Jones maxes out at 69 trucking, so he might not be a feature back.

Receiving:

Bennett-4-76
Olsen-3-51-1
Collins-2-36
Allen-2-31
Carey-2-12-1

Defensive:

Urlacher-8 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks.
Rivers-7 tackles
Phillips- 5 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks.
Somanu-3 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 sack.
Lewis-3 tackles, key INT.
Steltz-2 tackles, 2 TFL, sack, INT
Bake-2 tackles, sack.
Howry-tackle, TFL, sack.

I bought Offseason Seminar for my OC, Game Film Analysis for my WRC, and Int Dev 2 DB for my DBC. I'm going to make a concerted effort this year to get the basic special skills this year for my coordinators. I almost have enough for Leadership with my HC, so I might sim the last preseason game. I'll post the key comparisons pretty soon, my GM has all the School special skills.

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

I finished the final preseason game and beat the Steelers 27-6. I bought Leadership, which almost immediate got pretty close to maxing out my developments skills right away for my subordinate coaches. My coach's overall is now 20. I super-simmed the game rather than sim it, because your backups play when you supersim.

Here are the highlights:

Passing:

Woodson-8-9-97
Johnson-5-9-64-1-1

Rushing:

Dunlap-18-78
Jones-19-45

Receiving:

Jackson-3-50
Collins-2-46
Dunlap-2-22-1
Carey-3-14-1

Blocking:

Urlacher:7 Tackles, 1 TFL
Campbell-2 tackles, 1 TFL
Martin-2 tackles, INT
Sosa-2 tackles, 2 TFL

My owner had some mild goals for me: win 3 of my first 4 games(again), beat packers in Week 7, beat Steelers in Week 9 for the fans, re-sign Tommy Harris(again), Nick Mangold,(a no-brainer), and Stevie Dunlap. Win Offensive Rookie of the Year, Defensive Rookie Of the Year, Coach of the Year, and finish in the top 10 in offense and defense. Expectations from your owner are a little higher when you have better talent on your team. My goal this year will be to turn the talent into skilled players. I'll post the player comparisons for the Boar Jackson draft next.

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

Here are the relevant comparisons for the next draft, spoilers included:

Spoiler

There's not a lot of places I still need to improve. I'd like to upgrade at QB from Woodson, as his release is too slow. LG is good, but I may draft another guard. I'd like a complete back like Boar if he falls. I've got a good LOLB, but I could do better. Urlacher at some point will retire, and I better have a replacement ready. Robbie Gould is probably not the long-term answer at kicker, but he'll do for now. My RFA don't have their contracts come up for another year, so I might end up trading a lot of picks to 2011. I'll be posting my roster next.

The Onken brothers are awesome, If u need a DE the right one from UCLA seems nice and last but not least, who is Cheif Sanders??? Never heard of a player named that, but then I don't know all of the old players...

P.s. Sorry about Tommie Harris, it sucks to lose a good player for that long, but I sure u will manage...

I'll give you some information about Chief:

Spoiler

Even the best trainers, and Wyman is the best in the game, will have players suffer serious injuries. The one bright spot is the injury will give Wyman the 2nd special skill once Harris recovers. He's already got 4000 points.

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

I got u now, I thought that his comparsion was Cheif Sanders, not his name... And yeah most Linebackers and any other positions that have no comparisons are pretty darn good players...

Also the guy compared to T.O. may drop alot of balls if he plays like him in real life...

Re: The Coaching Career of Michael Smith(a Bears Dynasty)

Ok, I'm ready to post my roster now. I did make a couple of position philosophy changes though(at least temporary). I changed my HB philosophy from Balanced to Moves HB, and my TE philospohy from balanced to H-Back. In both cases the potential changed from 94 to 95+, a change from Pro Bowl to HOF. I don't think I'm going to find another TE with a 94 Balanced potential in my dynasty, and it's unlikely I'll be able to draft another 94 Balanced HB unless I trade up. I don't think I'll trade up above 8 again unless it's a 95+ Balanced potential player. The rookie contracts can be too expensive. Now to the roster, I'll post overall first and potential second:

QB1-Woodson-86-94
QB2-Josh Johnson-70-92
