The Career of S Kampfer

Charlotte NC Carolina Panthers owner Gary Richards held a news conference today to announce a change in the coaching staff of the Panthers. Richards said, "Coach John Fox contacted me last week to inform me that he was resigning as the head coach of the Panthers. Since Training Camp starts Monday, I knew we had to fill the vacancy quickly. Coach Fox stated that his health was not good and needed to spend time with his family. We wish Coach Fox well and hope his health improves."

Many expected Richards to name one of the coordinators as the new head coach to ensure continuity in the program, but he shocked the room by introducing Steve Kampfer as the new head coach. Coach Kampfer was the Defensive Coordinator for the Appalachian State University Mountaineers and helped lead the team to 3 consecutive FCS Championships from 2004-06.

Richards said that he had seen the work Kampfer had done in Boone with ASU and felt he could take the Panthers to the next level.

Coach Kampfer was not very talkative after the introduction but asked the fans and the press to give him a few days to get to know the team. He chuckled and said, "Yesterday I was knee deep in getting ready for the college season, and now I am a NFL Head Coach. I am not going to promise miracles, but I think we have the potential to do great things here."

Since you started in preseason, did you download the roster update? One of the days I might break down and download it, Matt Forte is a totally different player in this game with the roster update.

I may go back to them. But this is definitely a challenge! I think this one is even better for me because it all comes down to me.

I played the first 2 pre-season games today (school was cancelled again). The Giants one was ugly (lost 58-21). It is sad what a new playbook does.

But I didnt play Delhomme in the 2nd one...his health is bad. So I played Matt Moore the whole time. I was impressed, he didnt play that bad. On top of that, we beat the Eagles 24-20. But I have given up 6 sacks each game. So I need to work on that. It may be the new plays as well.

I have been playing the 1st string the whole games, trying to get play knowledge up. I have about 20 offensive and 20 defensive plays they know now at "learned" level. I am going to work on "mastering" those and adding 2 or 3 more for the other 2 pre-season games.

Thanks for reading!
