Re: Coaching Career of William Munny

Week 11

New York Giants (7-2)
@
Atlanta Falcons (9-0)

QB Matt Ryan throws for over 500yds in a Falcons win.

Most Giant fans were switching the channel by the end of the first half as the led by 18. The Falcons scored first when QB Matt Ryan hooked up with WR Marvin Harrison on a 4yd out route. The Falcons continued to pile it on adding another short TD pass from QB M. Ryan to WR M. Harrison, a long TD pass from QB M. Ryan to who else, WR M. Harrison; K Torry Brownlee added a chipshot to end the half. In response, all the Giants could muster was 2 K Lawrence Tynes FGs.

Things got nothing but worse for the Giants as the Falcons added 4 rushing TDs in the second half, all by HB Jerious Norwood. HB Michael Turner sustained a leg injury and had to leave the game.

The Giants were able to add a couple garbage time TDs, but this one was never close.

Giants 20 Falcons 52

Atlanta travels to the bayou to face QB Drew Brees and the (5-5) Saints.

Week 12

Atlanta Falcons (10-0)
@
New Orleans Saints (5-5)

If you love defense, you should probably look away now. This one was all about offense, with the score looking more like a basketball game in the end.

QB Matt Ryan threw for 429yds and 5 TDs, a performance that has turned more than a few heads. QB Ryan took the Falcons on his shoulders this game, something Atlanta fans haven't seen much of this year.

New Orleans QB Drew Brees was no slouch either throwing for over 300yds and 3 TDs.

A lot of credit has to go to the Saints OL, they allowed only 1 sack all day and QB D. Brees rarely even felt pressure, despite Coach Munny blitzing on almost every play.

However, their best efforts were in vain, as the Falcons offense was unstoppable with the HB tandem of HB Michael Turner and HB Jerious Norwood added 5 TDs to complement QB M. Ryan's 5 TDs.

The Falcons walk away victors in a Falcons 70 Saints 42 shootout.

The Falcons host the (5-6) Panthers next week.

Re: Coaching Career of William Munny

Week 13

Carolina Panthers (5-6)
@
Atlanta Falcons (11-0)

The hero becomes the goat. Atlanta QB Matt Ryan committed 9 turnovers in the game, almost gauranteeing a Panthers win.

This one was ugly from the start with both teams struggling to do much of anything. It was much uglier for Atlanta fans when QB Matt Ryan ammassed 3 fumbles and 3 interceptions in the first half.

HC William Munny had enough, and sent in backup QB rookie Russell Horton, with the score tied at 10 all in the bottom of the first half. The Falcons hopes of the turnover-fest coming to an end, was put to an abrupt end, when QB R. Horton was sacked, fumbled the ball and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.

QB Matt Ryan goes back in, and in the remaining half of the game, the Falcons trade TDs, while Ryan adds another 2 INTs. 17 all going into the 4th quarter, the Panthers add a 18yd FG after an amazing set of stops from the 3yd line. Panthers lead by 3. The Falcons are driving when a HB Michael Turner fumble gives the Panthers the ball. Falcons D comes up big and gets the ball back on a CB Terrence McGee interception. QB Matt Ryan and HB Michael Turner cautiously move the Falcons into range. A short screen pass HB Turner turns into a 29yd gain, before being dragged down on the 2yd line, sets up the go ahead score. HB Turner gets stuffed on dive middle. So Coach Munny calls for the pitch. QB Matt Ryan fumbles it. Carolina recovers and this one is over.

Falcons lose.

Carolina 20 Falcons 17

Week 14

Atlanta Falcons (11-1)
@
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-9)

Coach Munny returns to face his old team. Tampa Bay fans weren't going to be happy.

The Falcons controlled this one from beginning to end, with the Falcons shutting the Buccaneers out of the 1st half with 24 unanswered points.

The Buccaneers managed to score a couple of TDs in the second half, but it was most done against the Falcons second string as Coach Munny gave his starters a rest when the Falcons added 2 K Torry Brownlee FGs in the 3rd, giving the Falcons a 30-0 lead.

Week 15

Atlanta Falcons (12-1)
@
New England Patriots (11-2)

Both defenses were playing their best for this one, keeping the scores down. The Patriots led at the half 14 to 10.

QB Matt Ryan was prepared to change that in the 3rd quarter, but was intercepted by MLB Gary Guyton on the goal line. MLB Guyton didn't go far with it, but it killed the Atlanta drive.

The Patriots take the ball and drive all the way to the 1yd line, but then the Falcons defense happens. Stopped for a loss of 2. Pass knocked down. Sacked for a 2yd loss. New England has to settle for a 23yd FG. Patriots lead by 7.

Falcons add a FG in the 4th, to close the gap to 4. The Patriots respond with a TD throw to WR4 Matt Slater. Patriots are up by 11.

CB/KR Demario Waddell puts the Falcons right back into this one with a brilliant 90yd kickoff return for a TD. HB Michael Turner adds the 2pt conversion on the pitch and the Falcons are only down by 3.

Less than a minute left, the Falcons go for the onside kick, and get it. Atlanta has squandered their Timeouts (I don't know what happened, but suddenly I have no timeouts!), so this is going to be pure hurryup. QB Matt Ryan connects with WR Roddy White...tick, tick, tick...QB Ryan finds WR Harry Douglas...tick, tick, tick...QB Ryan dumps it off to HB M. Turner and Turner can't get out of bounds...tick, tick, tick...QB M. Ryan finds WR M. Harrison, getting close...tick, tick, tick...the Falcons are just getting lined up for the go ahead score when time expires.

Falcons lose.

Atlanta 21 New England 24

Week 16

Atlanta Falcons (12-2)
@
New York Jets (3-11)

The Falcons owned the Jets for the entire game. It wasn't a blowout by any means, but when you can't score you can't win.

Atlanta gave the Jets plenty of opportunities to score turning the ball over 4 times, including a HB Michael Turner fumble givng the Jets the ball on the 5yd line.

Unfortunately for the Jets with starter QB Damon Huard out on IR, backup QB Leron Williams wasn't up to the task. QB Leron Williams would match Falcons QB Matt Ryan with 3 interceptions of his own (one of them killing the "gimme" score setup by Falcons HB M. Turner's fumble.)

The Falcons roll to victory despite their errors, getting their first shutout of the season.

Falcons 27 Jets 0

The Falcons travel to Dallas for their final game of the regular season.

Week 17

Atlanta Falcons (13-2)
@
Dallas Cowboys (10-5)

The Falcons had already locked up homefield advantage and a bye week, but wanted to end the season on a high note.

That was not to be.

Mistakes by QB Matt Ryan and a porous defense, would add another L for the Falcons. QB Matt Ryan threw 3 interceptions in this one bringing his season total up to 23.

QB M. Ryan wasn't the only one to blame however, as the normally staunch rushing defense of the Falcons faltered, allowing HB Marion Barber to go for 131yds and TDs on just 17 carries.

The Falcons kept it close in the first half, trailing by only 4pts as the teams went to their locker rooms. When they came back out, the wheels fell off the bus. QB M. Ryan couldn't hit the broadside of a barn (unless hit happened to have a blue star on it.) and the defense was asleep. The Cowboys quickly expanded their lead to 18, and when the Falcons tried to rally in the 4th quarter it was too late.

Falcons lose.

Atlanta 21 Dallas 31

The Falcons have a bye in the first week of the playoffs.
