WEEK 4 RECAP
San Francisco 49ers 20
New Orleans Saints 37
We came out strong, leading 10-0 at the end of the quarter, but the Saints came storming back to make it 17-17 at the half. They then proceeded to outscore us 20-3 in the second half. Brees, coming off his injury, threw 4 TDs, meanwhile Gore rushed for a season low 17 yards. Terrible game by the 49ers.

Notable Stats
Alex Smith 17-35 236 yards, 1 TD 2 INT
Frank Gore 7 att, 17 yards, 1 TD
Donte Stallworth 4 cat, 79 yards

Coach Notes
-We struggled after the first quarter. They outscored us 37-10 after it.
-Alex Smith continues to be inconsistent, he had a great game last week and had a below average game this week against terrible corner backs.
-Frank Gore got his first rushing TD, but only ran for 17 yards.
-We let Brees throw for 4 TDs and let a 3rd-string WR gain 113 yards and 2 TDs.
-Positive: Started strong, Frank Gore got his first rushing TD
-Negative: Defense did very poor vs. the pass, struggled in the second half.

Record: 1-3
Career Record 1-3

UP NEXT:
New England Patriots (4-0)

Scouting Report
Pass 62%, Run 38%

Players to Watch:
QB- Tom Brady 71-119 800 yards, 6 TD 5 INT
WR- Wes Welker 20 cat, 234 yards 4 TD
WR- Randy Moss 20 cat, 207 yards

Injuries
49ers:
LG Russ Hochstein    1-3 Months

Patriots:
LB Tedy Bruschi    3 Days

Coach Notes
-The Patriots are the toughest team in the league. If we can upset them at home, the fans will love it.
-We NEED to get our running game going. 17 yards in unacceptable.
-This will be a very tough game. If Alex Smith has one of his good games, we may pull it off. But that is a big IF.
-If we can shut down Welker and just focus on Moss, we may be able to slow them down a bit and force them to run, which they are weak at.

Team Leaders
Alex Smith
75-138 1,053 yards 7 TD 5 INT
Frank Gore 49 att, 180 yards 1 TD
Arnaz Battle 19 cat, 357 yards
Nate Clements 31 tack, 1 INT

Re: A New Beginning: The Coaching Career of James Patrick (HC09)

WEEK 5 RECAP
San Francisco 49ers 13
New England Patriots 14
Our defense started the game unusually good, as we stopped them on 3rd down in two consecutive drives. The one bad play was a defining moment fail when I blitzed on 3rd and long and Brady threw a 30 yard pass down the field. Smith got picked but then Nate Clements picked Brady right back. We marched down the field fueled by a 4th down conversion and scored the first points of the game at 7-0. We added a field goal and went into halftime up 10-0 and we also got the ball to start the half. We went down into Pats territory but Nedney missed the field goal. The Pats then drove right down the field and scored a TD to make it 10-7.

All the sudden, Alex Smith caught fire and drove us down to the Patriot 8 yard line, but then we stalled out. Nedney added a field goal and we went up 13-7 late in the 3rd. Brady rallied the Patriot offense through two 3rd and 10 conversions and got them down to the 49er 29 yard line when all the sudden our D-Line came up big and sacked Brady on 3rd and 10 to put them out of field goal range! We got the ball but could not get a 1st down and had to punt it back to them with the two minute warning coming up. However, Brady then threw a pick right to Terrell Suggs and the 49ers got the ball in great position. However, this game hates running backs and we failed to get a first down yet again and had to punt it back with just over a minute left.

With the score at 13-7 and with 25 seconds left, Brady had the ball on his own 44 yard line. The Pats failed a 3rd down conversion and now was forced to convert on 4th and 5. The pass was deflected at the line, but the game wanted to cheat a little and throw a flag for pass interference. So the Pats got a free 1st and 10 with 18 seconds. The game was not done there, however. Brady threw a short pass over the middle and then called their last timeout...only the game did not count the timeout and still showed the Patriots with one left. So, they got a free 1st down and a free timeout. They then preceded to call their free timeout on the next play, a 10 yard pass over the middle. Now with 10 seconds left, Brady had it 1st and 10 at the SF 35. Of course, he would throw a TD pass to Randy Moss and win the game with 5 seconds left.

That is also why I never play the actual games.

Record: 1-4

Re: A New Beginning: The Coaching Career of James Patrick (HC09)

SCOUTING UPDATE
I decided to spend all my scouting time on quarterbacks like I always do.

TOP QBs (October Edition)
-Torry Pounds    UCLA
-Noah Wyoming    Notre Dame
-Joe Kain    Florida State

Coach Notes
-My GM is pretty bad at scouting QBs, so I don't really trust this much.
-I probably will not be drafting a QB in the first rounds unless something happens.
-CBs are my focus in this draft. I will be looking at Karl Dixon and Ivan McCamey more in the future.

(Side Note: I've gotten this draft class three times in a row throughout different dynasties on my first year...I even got it on Madden 10 recently.)

UP NEXT:
Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)

Scouting Report
Pass 66%, Run 34%

Players to Watch:
-QB Kevin Kolb
-CB Sheldon Brown
-FS Brian Dawkins

Injuries:
49ers:
-DT Isaac Sopoaga   7-12 months (IR)
-LG Russ Hochstein   7-12 weeks

Eagles:
-QB Donovan McNabb   1-3 months
-DE Jevon Kearse   3-5 weeks
-DT Brodrick Bunkley   3-5 weeks

Coach Notes
-With McNabb injured, the Eagles are forced to let Kevin Kolb lead their offense. Kolb is decent and should get the job done.
-Their WRs are pretty bad and Buckhalter at RB is about average. Our defense should get the job done, especially with a backup QB starting.
-Their defense is solid, we should take advantage of their D-Line injuries and RUN THE BALL, which we could not do well recently.

Team Leaders
Alex Smith
83-159 1223 yards, 8 TD 6 INT
Frank Gore 71 att, 251 yards 1 TD
Arnaz Battle 22 cat 432 yards
Nate Clements 35 tack, 2 INT

Rookie Watch
DeSean Jackson: 18 cat, 289 yards, 3 TD
Brandon Flowers: 27 tack, 2 INT
