Re: The Cam Jackson Story

SU 20 NU 10

For the 3rd straight year the Syracuse Orange have started the season with a victory. This time it was against Northwestern. It was not a pretty win, the Orange were committed to running the ball and playing good defense, and they did just that. They racked up over 170 yards on the ground, and only gave up 207 total yards to the Wildcats. It was pretty much a defensive game from the start, neither offense could do much, Syracuse just happened to move the ball a little better, resulting in a win.

Here you see Chris Toth scoring his first touchdown of the season.

Prince T Gulley spins away from a defender.

Photobucket">

Micah Robinson celebrates an SU sack.

Photobucket">

"That is how I want the defense to play every week. I couldn't ask for a better performance then that." Those were Doug Marrones comments following the game. He was correct, I don't think a defense could play much better then they did. They had the receivers covered deep all day, and they forced the Wildcats to work the ball down the field. Hopefully this will be the trend for the defense this season. Next week Syracuse travels to Virginia for their first conference game of the year.

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

So Close!

Syracuse was so close to 2-0, but Virginia was able to hold on for a 40-35 victory. The Orange led 20-14 at halftime, but a big 3rd quarter put Virginia up by 11 and Syracuse could not overcome that in the 4th quarter. Late in the 3rd quarter having lost the lead, offensive coordinator Cam Jackson suggested to head coach Doug Marrone that they switch QBs. So John Kinder replaced Charlie Loeb who seemed to be struggling moving the offense.

John Kinder came right in and made an impact. Moving the offense up and down the field. Syracuse looked as though they had a chance when Kinder suddenly threw an interception. The Orange got the ball back and drove right down the field and cut the lead to 3 with a 2 point conversion. Virginia would end up getting a couple field goals, before Kinder would find WR Adrian Fleming for a touchdown to cut the lead to 37-35.

Syracuse then tried on on side kick that Virginia recovered. SU held them to a field goal, and got the ball back with plenty of time. Syracuse needed a touchdown and were moving the ball down field when Kinder fumbled the ball away sealing Syracuses fate.

John Kinder shown here with the fumble at the end of the game.

Photobucket">

Photobucket">

In the 1st, Wilkes interception returned for 6.

Photobucket">

Despite losing SU coach Doug Marrone was excited about the play of his team, and the decision to switch QBs."Cams decision to try and switch QBs in the game was a good one. We were almost able to come back and win this game late. I think we will have to take a serious look at who the starting QB will be this week against Miami."

When coach Jackson was asked why he felt they needed to make the change he said "We just seemed like we needed to try something different. I'm glad coach Marrone agreed."

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

Syracuse Calms The Hurricanes

Last year the Miami Hurricanes came into the Carrier Dome and leveled the Orange. This year the Orange got some payback. Although the Hurricanes running game gained more then 300 yards, they needed the passing game at the end to try and win. Syracuse was able to keep them away from the end zone and hold Miami to a long field goal attempt. With less then a minute to go in the game, Miamis field goal attempt to tie the game was no good. John Kinder, who was named the starting QB this last week, came in and took a knee to run out the clock.

The Syracuse fans were going crazy. The Syracuse players were going crazy. It was like they just beat the #1 team in the country. Syracuse and Miami have always been rivals, ever since the Hurricanes were part of the Big East. Now that they are both in the ACC, it seems the rivalry is gaining momentum again. Standing in the Dome as the final seconds were running off the clock, you can understand why they call it The Loud House.

Photobucket">

Photobucket">

Offensive coordinator Cam Jackson said after the game that this was one of the biggest wins that this team has had since hes been here. That's a pretty big statement when last year the beat 2 top 25 teams, including Pittsburgh who was ranked #5 at the time. This is a win that could set the tone for the rest of the season. Lets hope that what happens, because next week the Orange play Florida State.

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

Ugly, Ugly, and More Ugly

That about sums it up right there. Syracuse had problems all day with the Seminoles. Florida State had no trouble with Syracuse last year and this year was no different. The Orange defense was not able to slow down the FSU passing game all day. The SU offense had trouble getting into any kind of groove at all. You could tell that the Orange were playing hard, but you could also see the kind of talent that the Seminoles have. Syracuse was held to just 299 yards of total offense, while the Seminoles racked up 603 total yards. Over 400 of those yards were through the air. There just is not any good things to say about the way Syracuse played today.

"There is not one good thing to say about how this team played today. I am embarrassed, and disappointed in the way we played today. I promise here and now, that we will not play that bad again. We as the coaches failed getting this team ready to play this week, and as a result these kids were not ready to play. It won't happen again." Those are the words of head coach Doug Marrone after Syracuse suffered a huge loss to Florida State by the score of 54-17.

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

NC State Hangs On

The North Carolina State Wolfpack hung on to beat the Syracuse Orange yesterday in the Carrier Dome 41-35. It was a close game through out, but the Orange just couldn't make the plays when they needed too. QB John Kinder continues to be a solid player. The Orange offense continues to be very good, while the defense is still struggling. Syracuse had plenty of chances in the 4th quarter, but they were stopped by the Wolfpack defense. Overall the offense was good despite Prince T Gulley going out in the 1st quarter with an injury.

With the lost Syracuse falls to 2-3 and it is starting to look like another long season for them. One bright spot in all this for the Orange is their offensive coordinator Cam Jackson. He continues to call the right plays and the offense continues to be one of the highest scoring in the nation. If Orange defense can get turned around and help the offense out, this could be a really dangerous team.

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

Cuse Stops 2 Game Slide

The Syracuse Orange were able to stop their 2 game losing streak today by beating Boston College 28-18. With the win the Orange improve to 3-3. The SU passing game did not generate many yards today, but the running game was solid. John Kinder threw for just a little over 100 yards in this game, and Travis Pendleton led the team on the ground with 85 yards rushing. On the defensive side of the ball the Orange were also solid, recording 3 sacks and forcing 2 turnovers, including Safety Anthony Pierce scoring his first touchdown on a fumble return.

A BC fumble after a big hit by Marquis Spruill, Anthony Pierce would return it for a TD.

Photobucket">

Jay Bromley making a tackle short of the 1st down on a 4th down play.

Jarrod West getting upended and fumbling, BC returned it for 6.

Photobucket">

With the win SU coach Doug Marrone was happy, but he felt something was missing. "I'm happy we won, but I feel like something was not right. The defense played one of the best games so far this season, but the offense seemed a little off their game today. I do however have every confidence that they will get back on track next week as we take on Clemson."

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

2 Straight Wins

For the 2nd straight week the Syracuse orange football team has won. This week it was down in Death Valley as they beat Clemson 23-20. Ross Krautman the Orange kicker kicked a game winning field goal as time expired. The Syracuse defense played outstanding the whole game allowing less then 300 yards of offense the entire game. The Syracuse pass rush was excellent, in fact it was better then ever recording 8 sacks. The Tigers also recorded a lot of sacks getting 6. The defenses dominated this game as both offenses struggled in the heavy rain. In the end it was the Orange that were able to put together the right plays and get the win.

"We are playing very good right now. Hopefully we will keep playing like this, and the winning will continue." Those were the words from offensive coordinator Cam Jackson after the game. It is unknown why head coach Doug Marrone didn't come out after the game. Jackson went on to say that he thought the defense was playing at it's highest level since he came here to coach. The offense is not to bad either, although this season has been a little off for them. Syracuse returns home for a game against rival West Virginia next week.

Re: The Cam Jackson Story

West Virginia Wins Trophy

The battle for the Schwartzwalder Trophy went to the Mountaineers this year as they beat the Orange 38-35. It looked like the Orange were gonna dominate this game from the start, but West Virginia kept battling back and they got the game winning field goal with less then a minute to play. The Mountaineers were sparked by big plays all game long. Two long touchdown passes, a kickoff return for a touchdown and a interception return for 6. As WVU was making big plays, the SU offense was working their way down the field with a solid running game and a short to medium passing game. The offense did play very well, but the Orange could not contain those big plays from WVU.

Reporters waited for 2 hours for a coach from the SU team to come out and make a statement after the game, but none did. There was some talk that head coach Doug Marrone could be heard from outside the locker room yelling very loudly at his team. That would not surprise me or anyone else, as the Orange did not play their best game, and this was a team in West Virginia that they should have beat. Hopefully they can turn things around next week and get back to winning again.
