Re: Pistol Power- The Coaching Career of Zarek Stryker

BREAKING NEWS

NASHVILLE, TN: The Tennessee Titans have announced the signing of kicker Matt Prater. "Bironas is our guy, and will continue to be the go-to man for any and all kicks." Stryker stated after the announcement. Rob Bironas has struggled this season going 11-22 on field goal attempts, but has nailed a couple 55+ yard kicks for wins or leads this season. Still, one has to wonder how much longer Stryker can continue to stick with Bironas if he continues to miss kicks. There is no doubt that Prater was signed as an insurance policy should Bironas continue to falter.

To make room for Prater on the roster, the Titans announced the release of rookie wide receiver Dorien Bryant. Bryant, an undrafted rookie out of Purdue, only managed 5 catches for 45 yards in 5 games for the Titans, and was inactive the past 3 games. Stryker was quoted as saying: "It's sad to see a player of Bryant's caliber released, but he had to be let go for the good of the team. While he's full of potential, and I have no doubt he will be a great player in the future, he struggled to grasp the concepts of our offensive scheme and was consistently out of place. I wish him best of luck in the future."

Prater is expected to be active when the Titans travel to Soldier Field to take on the Bears this Sunday.

Game Notes
The Bears have their work cut out for them in this game against the undefeated Tennessee Titans. It will be up to quarterback Rex Grossman or Kyle Orton, whichever leads the team, to keep the ball safe and not turn it over to this Titans offense. Rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall has been the go-to guy on the ground for Lovie Smith, and expect him to get the ball and try to pound it up the middle on the Titans defense.

Tennessee is riding high after eight straight wins, but coach Stryker is not looking past this Bears team. A great defense led by Brian Urlacher looks to stop the attack of the Titans pistol offense, but Vince Young and the Titans are catching fire with their offense as everyone is beginning to believe in the scheme set forward by coach Stryker.

With two strong defenses, but only one team with a real inkling of an offense, most expect the Titans to win their ninth consecutive game. Predicted final score: Tennessee Titans: 20, Chicago Bears: 13

Re: Pistol Power- The Coaching Career of Zarek Stryker

BREAKING NEWS!

NASHVILLE, TN: It has been announced that after Sunday's win over Chicago, veteran center Kevin Mawae was going to be out 4-5 weeks with a high ankle sprain. This latest injury comes at a bad time, and Stryker quickly pulled the trigger as he announced that they were placing Mawae on Injured Reserve. "Mawae is a veteran influence in the locker room, but he has struggled to stay healthy all year. As much as I would like to have him in uniform, we can't keep waiting for him to get healthy."

Mawae had already announced that he was retiring at the end of the season, so this latest injury effectively puts an end to his career. "I would have liked to help this team win." Mawae stated when asked about his placement on IR. "But Coach Stryker stuck with me longer than most would have, and I just couldn't get back to 100%. I told him to go ahead and place me on IR and sign someone to take my spot. That was how I could help this team now."

With an empty roster spot, Zarek signed Alex Stepanovich to back up the other veteran center Cory Withrow, who has stepped up his game in Mawae's absence. On a smaller note, it was also announced that safety Lamont Thompson was released from the team to make room for defensive tackle Randy Starks, who was recently signed as well.

Game Notes
The Jaguars have to find a way to stop the Titans offense if they are to have a chance at winning. Tennessee looks to control the time of possession in every game, and have done a great job of it this year which has led to a surprising 9-0 start. Rookie Ray Rice is starting to find his groove running the ball, which will take the pressure off of Vince Young to always make plays. On defense, standout rookie Philip Wheeler is flying from sideline to sideline and racking up the tackles, showing why Stryker was so high on the kid out of Georgia Tech. The revamped defensive line has been disrupting quarterbacks and running backs all year, and look for them to take advantage of a Jacksonville offensive line that has struggled this year.

Jacksonville needs to feed the beast. By that, I mean give the ball to MJD. Drew is a great running back, very elusive with deceptive power. If Maurice can get going against this Titans defense, that will take the pressure off of Garrard and that weak receiving corps. Defensively, Rashean Mathis has to be ready. The Titans don't just go to any one receiver, and Mathis will need to be prepared to move all around the field. Their linebacker corps is their weak spot, and look for Tennessee to attack the middle of the field with their tight ends.

Re: Pistol Power- The Coaching Career of Zarek Stryker

Has it really been over a week since I last updated this? Damn. Sorry about the delay in this dynasty. I've been busy trying to set up a dynasty in NHL 11 (the only one I have, and as my beloved Nashville Predators), which has been a pain trying to find a slider set that gives me a challenge with realistic gameplay/stats, but I have it down now. That will be starting soon. In addition, I am getting back to this dynasty as well, and starting another one as either the Jets or the Panthers, but I'm leaning more towards Panthers.

Anyway, thanks for waiting and following (if you are) and be sure to check out my other stories as well as I get them started ^_^

Game Notes
The Jets are tied with the Ravens for the worst record in the NFL at 1-9, and are not looking good at any phase of the game. Kellen Clemens is obviously not the answer at quarterback, and it may be time for them to see what first round pick Joe Flacco is capable of. He can't do much worse than Clemens. Jones was running the ball well before his injury, and Leon Washington has struggled to pick up the slack. Veteran receivers Isaac Bruce and Laveranues Coles have suffered from poor quarterback play, which hasn't been helped by a porous offensive line that has more holes than swiss cheese.

The Titans, on the other spectrum, are benefiting from the play of Vince Young, who is flourishing in the new system instilled by rookie coach Zarek Stryker. Rookie running back Ray Rice is putting together a solid rookie campaign on the ground, though nothing spectacular. Veteran tight end Desmond Clark, traded for during the offseason, has been a reliable target all year for Young, though he has had lapses in concentration which have resulted in 8 dropped passes. Rookie receiver DeSean Jackson is showing his speed, becoming a deep threat in the passing game and threatening in the return game, already returning 3 kicks and 1 punt for a touchdown. The Titans defense has been led by rookie middle linebacker Philip Wheeler, who has showed great sideline-to-sideline speed and an instinct that belies his 4th round pick status.

Matchups to Watch:
Jets D-LINE vs. Titans O-LINE
The Jets defensive line has struggled all season to apply any pressure to opposing quarterbacks, and they will have to win in the trenches if they want any hope of containing Vince Young and keeping the running game from exploding.

David Harris vs. Vince Young
Harris is the leader on the Jets defense, the one calling the plays and leading the team. And lead them he has. Harris has racked up 91 tackles so far on the season, which is third in the NFL behind only Demeco Ryans of Houston, and Jonathan Vilmas of New Orleans. It will be his job to make sure everyone is set. Vince is the leader on the Titans side, and has done a good job this year leading his team, but he will need to exploit the weaknesses of the Jets defense. That means the middle of the field by throwing away from Darrelle Revis, and attacking the second and third corners, and the safeties.
