The Coaching Career of Hal Ophamer (HC09)

BELICHICK BANNED FROM NFL

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been banned from the NFL for the Spygate scandal. His replacement has been named; Navy head coach Hal Ophamer will take the reins. Ophamer served in the Navy and became their football coach. He led the Midshipmen to a Commander in Chief trophy and a bowl win last year, which was enough to land him this job. Rumor has it that Ophamer wants to get some fresh blood on this roster, but there are a few players he will keep, like future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady.

Re: The Coaching Career of Hal Ophamer (HC09)

Note: Decided not to do a full staff overview, will just state the hiring/firing

On to Free Agency:

3/3/08

The Patriots announced that they wanted to make some big splashes in the trade market, and they started today, making a ton of moves to overhaul the roster.

First to go was locker room cancer Randy Moss, who was sent to Detroit for the 45th pick in the draft and their 2009 first-round pick.

Next, the Patriots sent Adalius Thomas to Kansas City for the fifth overall pick and the 195th pick.

Veteran Tedy Bruschi was sent to St. Louis for their 2009 first and seventh round picks.

Junior Seau was sent to Philly for picks 49 and 215.

Ellis Hobbs was sent to Washington for pick 51.

3/4/08

The Patriots went out and talked to lots of teams and made some deals.

Reagan Mauia was acquired from Miami for a 5th and 7th, as NE wants a blocking fullback.

Brandon Marshall, a young star reciever, was acquired from Denver for TE Ben Watson, DE Jarvis Green, and FB Heath Evans.

Calvin Johnson, the 2nd overall pick last year, was acquired. Surprisingly, it just cost the Patriots backup HB Kevin Faulk, and many analysts think the Pats got a steal with this acquisition.

More deals made by the Pats

Franchise LT Joe Staley was acquired for LT Matt Light and QB Matt Gutierrez.

Young center Samson Satele was acquired from divisional rival Miami for RT Nick Kaczur and a 6th round pick (191)

Next, franchise guard Chris Snee was acquired from New York, who we lost to in the Super Bowl last year, for SS Rodney Harrison and K Stephen Gostkowski.

We acquired RT Eric Winston, a backup for Ryan O'Callaghan, in exchange for FS James Sanders.

Brian Smith, a DE who can work as a backup, was acquired from Jacksonville for G Russ Hochstein.

We acquired stud DE Elvis Dumervil from Denver for HB Laurence Maroney. He may work as a starter or a often used backup.

The next deal is an interesting blockbuster. The Pats acquired young MLB Patrick Willis from the 49ers for RE Richard Seymour.

The Pats got a steal from the Panthers, acquiring CB Chris Gamble for a 2009 5th round pick.

The Pats signed Torrin Tucker to a 2 year, 1.3 million deal with no bonus and no incentives to backup Joe Staley.
