A Bears Dynasty

I was going to wait a little longer, but I at least want to get this one started for now.

Coach Michael Smith has taken over as Head Coach of the Chicago Bears. "It's going to be a bit of a rebuilding job. I'll have a lot of work to do to phase out the players who don't fit our system and add new ones who do. I expect the offseason to be very busy."

Personality: Commander
Philosophies-All Balanced, all health philosophies moderate. I will stress Play Knowledge.
Offensive Playbook-Michigan Surprise-181 plays
Defensive Playbook-Three-171 plays
Special Skills-Offseason Seminar, Regular Season Seminar.
Regular Skills-Performance 4, Intangibles Development 3 for defense and K.
Sliders-pretty close to default. 40 for QBA, 60 for RB.

House Rules:

1. No advanced specials for the GM-the last three.
2. Performance and Specials Skills will be the last skills to be upgraded for coaches. If it's 1, might move it to 2 but that will be it.

No house rules for roster construction or the draft. I will look to make the best roster possible, but I will be careful on trading down after the first year.

BTW-I'll look to play most of the games, but I'll supersim ones I don't feel I can win.

Re: A Bears Dynasty

2008 Roster Overview

QB-Orton best at 70/75. Definite need
HB-Benson not worth 7.5 million. Another need
FB-Mckie 73/73. Another need
WR-Berrian 83/88, but will let him enter FA. I'll also trade Hester at some point. His learning is a issue; I'll expect all starters to have at least 85 potential in Learning.
TE-Olsen 78/88 good-will keep him, Clark 77/77 will be traded.
LT-Tait moved to RT, a need.
LG-Brown too old, will let him enter FA-address in draft.
C-Kreutz 92/92 excellent, 30 though.
RG-No starter above 77, another need.
RT-Tait 84/84, hope Jordan Gross slips by a franchise tag.
LE-Ogunleye Ok at 81/81, will move to RE.
RE-M. Anderson 73/79 not starter, will address in draft
DT-T. Harris 89/90 good, but 64% on R Leg worrisome. I'll take that into account next year.
LOLB-H. Hillenmeyer-81/82 ok, but will keep a eye out for Adibi or another LOLB.
MLB-Urlacher-93/93. Very good but would like a #2. I have some 3-4 plays on defense.
ROLB-Will franchise 90/91 Briggs.
CB-Tillman's 10 Catch rating unsuitable for one of my starters, but he'll have to remain on the roster for a while because of his contract. Vasher will stay.
FS-Will trade 82/82 FS Mike Brown.
SS-I'll move FS Manning to FS for now.
K-Robbie Gould-91/94-best in NFL.
P-Maynard 87/87 good but 33-will likely trade. There's a couple of good punters in FA.

Cuts:

QB R. Grossman-3.0 million-no penalty
HB C. Benson- 7.6 million-6.0 million penalty
LE I. Idonije-2.0 million-200K penalty
LE D. Bazuin-1.91 million-570k penalty
LOLB M. Okwo-290K-510K penalty
CB R. Manning-4.1 million-4.3 million penalty
SS A. Archuleta-5.76 million-4.0 million penalty.

No staff overview-most of them are terrible and will be fired. Ones that might stay:

STC Dave Toub-79. TC 4/5, PC 2/4, Str 5/5, Perf 2/4. All dev 4/5, Physical and Learning 5/5.Good STC are hard to find and I've got a good one.

GM Jim Andrews-49. It all depends on the available GMs.

Re: A Bears Dynasty

2008 FA Period

I've just about figured out that if a CPU team has a backup with at least a 75 overall they will be willing to trade their starter. The same logic seems to apply to Season Goals. If you have at least a player with a 75 overall, you won't get a season goal for that position. I started off FA with 2 strong trades, then followed it up with a major signing at RT.All 85 or greater FAs are listed with age and contract(except kickers)

2008 FA and trades:

49ers trade LT Joe Staley to Bears for TE Desmond Clark, HB Garrett Wolfe, and 2009 6th.I met the LT goal.

Colts trade HB Joseph Addai to Bears for RG Robert Garza, 4(107), and 2009 4th.I met the HB goal.

Broncos trade QB Brady Quinn to Bears for 2009 5th.

CB Asante Samuel-91-26-5 years, 43.0 million-Saints
CB Nnamdi Asomugha-91-26-5 years, 41.0 million-Titans
CB Marcus Trufant-90-25-5 years, 37.0 million-Dolphins
FS Eugene Wilson-90-27-5 years, 23.0 million-49ers
RT Jordan Gross-92-27-5 years, 37.0 million-Bears

ROLB Terrell Suggs-88-24-3 years, 23.0 million-Chiefs
LT Flozell Adams-86-32-1 year, 5.4 million-Lions
FS Ken Hamlin-86-26-4 years, 16. 0 million-Dolphins
LE Antwan Odom-85-25-4 years, 28. 0 million-Bucs
HB Shaun Alexander-85-30-4 years, 24.0 million-Bucs
LG Stacy Andrews-87-26-5 years, 26.0 million-Panthers
WR Bernard Berrian-83-25-4 years, 23.0 million-Dolphins
RG Ben Noll-86-23-4 years, 19.0 million-Dolphins
RG Jake Scott-86-26-4 years, 22.0 million-Dolphins
LG Ruben Brown-86-35-1 year, 4.2 million-Titans

Bears trade P Brad Maynard to Patriots for 4-127 and 2009 7th.
Bears trade FS Mike Brown to Vikings for 2-47 and 2009 7th.
Bears trade CB Trumaine McBride to Seahawks for 6-183 and 7-218.

Bears sign P Mitch Berger-86-35-1 year, 1.1 million.

The 2008 Draft is next.

2008 Draft-Day 2

I did a fair amount of trading down in the 3rd and 4th rounds, needless to say. I always go a bit crazy in the 2008 draft because-what if I get the Sweetney path? Trades, then undrafted, then the Draft Chart.

Trades:

3-65-from Rams for RE Mark Anderson, 7-218, and 2009 7th. To Cardinals for their 3-81 and 2009 4th.

3-69-from patriots for my 3-70 and 2009 7th.

3-74-from Eagles for RT John Tait, not sure for 3-80 and 2009 5th.

3-80-to Falcons for 4-100, 2009 4th, and 2009 6th.

4-109-from Bengals for 4-116 and 6-169

5-146-from Texans for SS Daniel Manning, to Ravens for 6-167 and 7-200

Undrafted:

QB Andre Woodson-Kentucky
HB Xavier Omon-NW Missouri State
LOLB Barry Redd-Nebraska
TE Mark Moffitt-UCF
TE Mike Peterson-NW Missouri State

Re: A Bears Dynasty

Nice amount of moving and trading to get what looks like a very solid draft. I knew my draft was going crazy when Andre Woodson was taken in the 3rd Round. But it all worked out.

Nice draft. Looking forward to see your rosters.
