Re: 2024-25 College Hoops Discussion

I could write forever about last night but I won't. But it was wild being on the other side of this one. Duke felt like Kentucky in past years. Young and talented. But just ran outta gas in the end.

Kentucky won because Pope made adjustments at the half. The defense was cranked way up in the second half, and minus Flagg, Duke got bottled up and Kentucky kept the pressure on them the entire half and in the end "Experience won out over young talent"

And Pope really ran circles around Scheyer in those final 2 or 3 minutes. Especially the last two plays it seemed like Scheyer just let a 17 year flagg go make a play. And that's tough. As good as he is. Everyone knew who it was going to and he got trapped in no man's land.

I couldn't dream of a better start to the Pope era. You can't win over this fan base any quicker then beating Duke 3 weeks in.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Here's an interesting nugget from Twitter...

Last night at Champions Classic, teams used a Spalding basketball that teams don’t normally play with

Kansas shot 29% from 3
Duke shot 17% from 3
Michigan St shot 12% from 3

Kentucky shot 40% from 3…and Pope said afterwards the team practiced with the Spalding ball all week

The man is all about the attention to details. That is an amazing observation though. How about this? Pope showed his team old footage of Kentucky and Duke before the game. He wanted to hammer home how important the rivalry is to his new guys so they could understand what it meant.

Cal would never. It's just another game blah blah blah. Forgot what a real coach looked like.

Re: 2024-25 College Hoops Discussion

anyone else curious about the 7 foot 9 guy being listed as the tallest teen male? Is there a female taller?

anyway, good on him to redshirt, he actually doesn't look as spindly as other giant players, if he can get work on conditioning and footwork he could be a rotational guy and not just an anomaly

Oof Dayton just blew a big lead against UNC and then had a KD moment of tying it back up with a three but review showed a toe on the line

That wasn't good. Tough atmosphere. But weakness showed if this team doesn't hit threes.
