NCAA Dunk Contest > NBA Dunk Contest

Dunno if any of you guys just watched this but Tony Dandrige just won in a dunk off by one point. I have seen dunks that I've never seen before in this contest. Dandrige's dunks were no gimmicks. He had no lobs, no capes, no nothing. Straight dunking. And that in itself is impressive.

He did a dunk where he dunked 2 balls, dunked one with his left and windmilled the other with his right, it was crazy. This entire dunk contest has been better than what the NBA had.

D League Dunk Contest > NBA Dunk Contest/NCAA Dunk Contest.

I'm talking about this year of course.

You guys are crazy.

Dunks done in college basketball slam competitions would be yawned on at the NBA level. The NBA guys are so athletic that they go out of their way to show you just how crazy athletic they are by using props and whatnot.

Plus, usually NBA guys are far and away more athletic than their NCAA counterparts.

Re: NCAA Dunk Contest > NBA Dunk Contest

But the college kids WANT to be there. They enjoy going to the various contest to show what they got.

The NBA players don't wanna play in the All-Star game, much less the dunk contest. I don't consider myself much of an NBA fan, but I keep up with it, and I don't know half the players in the competition.

Who cares if they are more athletic, if they don't care to be there, it shows. They only show up for any bonus clauses in their contracts, and so they can go all go clubbin' together.

Not true. Dunks done in the McDonald's AA Dunk contest would be yawned at at the NBA Level. The guys in the NCAA dunk contests are just as athletic, if not more. Keep in mind these are college seniors who are the age and equivalent of some of the contestants in the NBA Dunk Contest. You don't just automatically gain athleticism as soon as you enter the NBA. Plus the pool of players in college basketball is so vast that you can find freakish athletes all over the place.

The thing that made this special to me is that Tony Dandridge won with no props, no gimmicks, etc as I said before. Usually the NBA dunk contest has become so stale and uncreative that players need those gimmicks in order to get a high score. But you really deserve a high score if you can perform dunks nobody's ever seen before without lobs or props. If Dandridge was in this past years dunk contest, I firmly believe he would have won unless judge bias toward Nate interfered...again.

Here's a couple of his dunks:

He had a couple other real nice ones including a 360 corkscrew reverse windmill (think VC) but off of one foot.

Okay, that two ball dunk was pretty sick.

No one can argue that.

Re: NCAA Dunk Contest > NBA Dunk Contest

I would've watched it if I knew it were on but the Danridge dunks were amazing. The dunk where the guy threw the ball in from the stands wasn't as good as the annoucers made it - the dunk itself wasn't anything special.

Check out the dunk this dunk from a few years back...it's VC-esque

Re: NCAA Dunk Contest > NBA Dunk Contest

This was the sickest dunk contest I've seen since the NBA one where VC won it back in 2000 (I think).

I'm not sure what made it so good for me, but I was pumped watching it throughout. Most every dunker was doing something awesome each round. Danridge is just incredible and the Coley guy from Charlotte pulled off some creative stuff as well.
