Notre Dame was the victim of the Davidson squeeze.

The **** is ESPN thinking having this loud music playing the background while their analysts talk about the brackets? Awful production.

Get past the +/- 12 obvious first rounds games and then.... **** might as well make every bracket possible. This year is going to be absolutely, 100% madness (pun intended).

Re: 2018 Bracketology Discussion and Auto Bid List

Someone please enlight me, why is it that the First Four games don't feature a bunch of team playing for the 16th seeds and instead feature in some games 11th seeds?

Why do some 11th seeds teams need to play an extra game than other 11th seeds? How is that fair? I could understand if it were 8 "16th seeds" playing to become the "true" (4) 16th seeds and have the privilege of getting slaughtered be the 1st seeds.

Last 4 in play and 4 bottom 16 seeds

Used to be just the 16s, but teams complained that they weren't playing in the tourney for winning their league.

Because an auto bid team can be terrible and an at large team can be decent. For instance, AZ State has proven they can be a good team, so to put them at 16 would be very unfair. Also, the 8 play in teams have to be at large teams because all auto bid teams are automatically in the round of 64.

So basically, all auto bid teams are all at large teams but the very worst 4 are seeded. Worst 4 at large teams, paired with the next worst 4 at large teams to develop the play in games.

Thank you guys for the explanation, also took a look a Wikipedia (never wrong!) to see what's what and it cleared it up for me.

I guess this make wish even more for a clean 64 team field with no play ins.

Yeah, I don't like the new play-in games, either. I was okay with the 65th team being added (two 16 seeds playing each other) a couple decades ago when the Mountain West came about, but the newer play-in games are a bit much.

However, I'll take it over the proposed 96-team tournament the NCAA was apparently considering when they went to 68 teams.
